《 Vinedapple 》 ── sunclan ── medic ── they/xe/him ── 80+ moons ──
── x Beyond xer home, far from the sun-licked plains of a grand Clan, Vinedapple found themself in a place that xe had deemed impossible for xer to ever end up in.. Yet, here xe was.
Their paws stood firm upon the cold surface of a weird, twoleg-made object. He called it a stick-legged ledge. It had four legs, that were sturdier than they appeared, and a smooth, thin and flat body. The twoleg that had put him there liked to sit infront of it and put its odd objects on it, looking through the see-through- a transparent part of the wall, that allowed them to see beyond their prison.
Vinedapple stared into the faraway wilderness, as he recalled the moment he'd been brought, in a shiny spiderweb-den that the twolegs put him in, and they carried him to some place.. An elderly twoleg picked them, out of some other mouse-brained caged cats.
The frail, wrinkly old thing put a collar on him, and earned a good scratch, though Vinedapple soon lost the thrill of fighting back, as the twoleg seemed so weak.
It always chirped in a certain pattern, and they supposed it had given them a name, but Vinedapple gave no answer as he still stared off into the distance, planning his escape. He still had the dignity to dart under the stick-legs or the twoleg's nest when it approached to pet him, and the old thing, unable to crouch or kneel to his height, gave up easily.
From xer see-through, Vinedapple had seen a few loners and kittypets, but xer olive eyes widened at the sight of a familiar face. Xe couldnt quite put xer paw on the name, but xe'd swear to StarClan's names that xe had seen that cat before. ── "talks in olivedrab bold" ── special in indianred bold italics ── ...

Like a tapestry born from mist, Shadepool melted from the shadows of looming, manmade structures, glinting cold and metallic in stark contrast to the earthy, living texture of the rolling woodlands beyond. Each building seemed to stand like a guard, posted in a vigil no cat could ever comprehend nor emphasize with. It was the land of the enemy, through and through, where the heartbeat of the great wilds was replaced with the all-consuming rumble of monsters and mechanics that shook the hard, artificial landscape, sending vibrations across the roads like a disruptive splash now rippling across once still waters. She'd never been anywhere like it. Had hoped to never correct that good fortune, quite honestly. But luck only got you so far, once you'd already made the mistake of dying. He was only comforted knowing that this, like everything, would become another foggy memory in the tangled mess he called time. There was no need to search very far. Somehow, a force beyond her understanding seemed to tug at the husk of her spirit, compelling her onwards, onwards, into the concrete jungle.. and to the clanmate she was once bound. A kinship that withstood even the tumultuous, threatening changes of twoleg encroachment. A chill ran through her ghostly pelt, rolling the blue of her backbone into a tumbling river. The momentum of the movement overtook her- and once more, Shadepool was whisked across the world in a transit of unknown design. A deconstruction of the self, pulled under the swells of reality until, at last, with the force of a heaving breath he no longer needed, he was spat out once more. Hauled from the invisible realm that composed his abstract purgatory, the warrior's form manifested once more, peeling from a pocket dimension and solidifying into roughly the estimated shape of a cat, albeit dripping strangely across the scrub of the false lawn. Catching glimpse of Vinedapple seemed to finish the job for her. The ghost's oozing seemed to revert, crawling back inwards on itself, closing the fuzzy edges of her shifting state of self, and then, and then, mended like a wound... his features finished sharpening, his ears refined into their true, stable silhouette. His face at last knit together. It was nice to feel grounded again. For a few moments, floundering around out there, she'd almost forgotten who she was. But with the former medic so close xeir pulse seemed to emit a palpable throb, emitting precious, precious life force- Well, it served as a nice reminder. A thousand memories were carried in their paws, after all, which had tended so many of Shadepool's injuries and ailments. Those memories alone were enough to resurface his fragile identity. To remind him what he was here for. With only a slight waver overlaying her pelt, cast in the veneer of a watery reflection, he moved in quick paces for the opening where Sunclan's lost member lingered, ignoring any possibility of alarm. No matter the reason for Vinedapple's fate, there was a greater destiny at stake. That of the entire Celestial territories as they both knew it. And if there was one thing he knew, it's that he'd give his afterlife a thousand times over if it meant protecting his clanmates one more time. It gave him a certainty, on those final few pawsteps, that seemed to deepen the opacity of his pelt, filling in its strange transparency until he was naught more than a thick fog. Still squintably not quite right, but just enough all there to skew any questioning. Questions didn't solve anything, anyway, and he certainly had no answers. What a pitiful mentor I've become.Shadepool leapt to the ledge right across from chestnut healer, barred only by that strange barrier. The impact made no resounding thud. Face to face with another lost soul, she considered him. And then promptly batted a dark paw through the shield, as if scooping into the Golden Pond for a particularly slippery minnow. The minnow being the other cat's muzzle. It carved easily through the surface of the crystalline construct, fishing inwards effortlessly for the other feline. Right on target!
But.
Like the barrier, his digits passed through xem like a parting vapor, leaving nothing but an uncomfortable chill behind on the confined tabby's whiskers.

☽☆A Soul Departed☆☾
Darkcinder gave a huff which would have resulted in the curl of mist on how cold this morning seemed to be but now resulted in nothing he had woken after a while a slip of unease still managing to settle like a pit in his stomach he had glanced around trying to figure out just what might have caused it when he took notice that his ghostly companion was no longer around. Though this seemed to be a common thing that happened with Shadepool he still worried when there seemed to be no sign of her though somehow the tom was able to pick up very faint fragments of her scent the one that he recalled easily due to how much time he spent with her and Rabbitstar. Following it at a quick pace the tom managed to keep hold of it though something else seemed to also propel his paws forward.
The tom shook out his pelt though wind no longer flowed through it like it once did, the shift and movement of his body still had the same result as his fur settled back in place he found himself nearing a two leg nest area and out of instinct he began to slow being cautious even though he was sure none could see him. The last while had taught him that much. As he tried to pick up Shadepools scent again it seemed to get stronger making him relax a bit now just to find where it was coming from.

《 Vinedapple 》 ── sunclan ── medic ── they/xe/him ── 80+ moons ──
── x Vinedapple jerked his head back as an odd feeling took over him.
The feline shape he'd seen, flickering from his gaze.. had he grown old enough without noticing? The thought struck him almost funny. Not even the cold vines of age would strike him down so easy. Another thought came to him as the shape's opacity changed yet again- as an ethereal paw reached out beyond the see-through to him, extending a chilling wave throughout him.
Vinedapple had such an experience in moons long gone by.
Such an experience that'd lead to disbelief on behalf of many, of misty shapes with cold paws and wise whispers, denied or sent by the stars themselves..
Xer olive eyes unfocused, and then focused yet again. His whiskers twitched and his kinked tail attempted a greeting wave, with little success as was usual. Turning an ear for only a moment towards the closed room that housed his elderly prisonkeeper, the splotched tabby raised a paw to the transparent surface, and unlike any other being had, until this point, stared right into the eyes of the newcomer.
"Hmm. Interesting. G'day.. I can see you." spoke xe, mumbling at first, but his mew grew confident and oddly calm. ── "talks in olivedrab bold" ── special in indianred bold italics ──

Shadepool's eyes rounded. "You see me."It's a rapturous phrase. Breathless in the absence of any breath with which to compare, the warrior raised a paw in turn.. hovering it just over Vinedapple's pad pressed to that finicky surface which could only permit her own passage. How many moons had passed, now, without a single notice of her passage through the living world? With none but Darkcinder to affirm his existence, to ground his sanity? Hearing the words, muffled as if sealed away by a higher force, it felt as if she'd finally been granted access to the recognition he'd toiled seasons to gain. That against all odds, against even this final barrier, she had been born anew, if only in the gaze of one remaining clanmate. But the moment of exaltation had come to pass. Just as one saw another, the medic required that same affirmation. Shadepool's expression shifted, hardening with his resolve. In the same way the shield failed to obstruct his paws, neither his voice seemed to fall victim to the muffling effect which masked the other's. Like a fresh rain, clear and crisp, the resonance of the ghost's voice reached the dark ears across the way. "Your clan suffers in your absence. We must return at once." In spite of her clarity, the tension strung her tone with a curtness that betrayed an underlying anxiety. With not a moment to lose, he slipped across the border once more, whisking abruptly to xeir side with an impatient tail flick. "Show me which restrictions seal this wretched place. There is nothing two-leg that isn't susceptible to imbalance. We'll topple it as a team."
In any other circumstance, the crossing from the outdoors to the foreboding indoors would be an instance of extreme overstimulation. It wasn't often a wildcat was locked away like this, in the lion's den. So much to see, so much to unsee in this hellish nest of human torment and indignity. But with eyes on Vinedapple, the illusion that currently wore Shadepool's identity held no qualms with ignorance. This environment meant nothing, however curious it might be to explore the inside of feline's worst enemy's quarters. Sunclan came first, and Sunclan could not afford another second of misguided distraction.

《 Vinedapple 》 ── sunclan ── medic ── they/xe/him ── a lot of moons ──
── x Vinedapple knew he had little time to waste, and led his olive gaze across the twoleg's den, pointing to a few odd landmarks of it.
—Well, here beside the see-through where you entered, there's this thing, I call it open-wall. Twolegs can open them to get out of their dens and their rooms, and close them so nothing gets out.
He pointed to a tall wooden rectangle, with a once shiny sphere made out of a golden, polished sort of rock? A door. On the other side of the den there were two more. Vinedapple briefly pointed to one in specific, and noted "There is the twoleg. If we find a way out, it won't trouble us. It is too old and slow."
There were other twoleg artifacts, like the sitting-nest, a sort of block softer than moss where the twoleg sits or lays on; there was also the most intriguing artifact, which Vinedapple had failed to properly name.. the star-cage? the horror-thing? They knew no words for it. It looked dark and quiet now, but xe spoke of how the twoleg would wake it up, and it'd spill noises and chirp and spit lights. It even had little twolegs and even animals on rare occasions appearing through it. Vinedapple was curious of it, but could not linger on its functions.
Xe rambled a little about that specific item, but cut his words short. They spoke of its supposed functions (because it was currently asleep) like if he was insane. But twolegs do insane things.
—I've tried, y'know, to get out quite often. The old twoleg goes out early, at sun-rise, every day, to tend to its garden. Because it keeps herbs! The one good thing to be taken from this dark place.. Anyway, it goes out and thus, opens the open-wall. I almost got free the first time or two, but now it either locks me up in its den or ties me up like a dog! ── "talks in olivedrab bold" ── special in indianred bold italics ─

With every word, the ghost's glower at the artificial surroundings seemed to deepen. By the time Vinedapple was describing the horrible process by which xe was bound and confined at every turn, she had heard quite enough. "This is no place for any cat. Twolegs know nothing of your dignity and station!" How disgusting, how unjust, to live in a world where one creature could treat another in such a way. Starclan ruled over cats alone, but it didn't feel right to think there was an animal out there in the world who couldn't properly be judged and punished for their karmic crimes against a Sunclan warrior. And not just any warrior- a sacred medic, directly connected to Silverpelt like a shimmering point in a greater constellation. Was it any wonder Sunclan was in turmoil, when their one and only remaining medic was shut away into a world where the closest stars came from the corrupt sorcery of man's craftsmanship? Mournfully- Fleetingly- Her gaze tilted to the ceiling as if to seek prayer, only to affirm what she already had known to be true. There was nothing overhead but a hollow shell, as if to stifle the flight of any subject held within.
But a cat was no canary. Try as twolegs may, they could not cage a warrior's spirit. Surely that much was proven when, even abandoned by the peace of astral retirement, her heart had pulled her a thousand distances to find a clanmate in need.
With a heavy lash of the tail, slow but weighted like swishing through the pushback of a river tide, Shadepool dismounted from the open-wall, skirting his way around the main chamber to examine the exit linked to the garden; The same side of the property he'd approached from. Paying a wide berth to the door which held Vinedapple's captor, the ghost began patrolling for cover. Anywhere that might help to stow the tabby for a temporary delay when they would enact their next escape... "These days, my paws are as useless as a fine mist." His call was almost a grumble. Unusual for his character, but a tone that couldn't be helped. Not when everything seemed to be pitted against the two. "But I can at least be your eyes. If I can help you to evade, or prepare to rush the door, then... Perhaps you'll stand a greater chance. Even as I am now, Starclan may deliver me the miracle of touch just in time for me to properly aid you. That seems fair enough, for their loyal healer."

☽☆A Soul Departed☆☾
The tom had managed to catch a strong breath of Shadepool's scent as he wondered through the two legs nests carefully not that he was afraid of being caught more so out of habit then anything else as he neared he could hear a discussion thus peaking his curiosity and drawing him into the area in which he seen Shadepool perched near a reflective piece put into the side of the two leg den. When he jumped up to see what was going on after Shadepool seemed to enter the nest he recognized the feline sitting on the other side. "Well if this isn't a few fox tails from home." he meowed he gaze fixed on the two inside wondering if maybe like Shadepool he could just slip inside and didn't have to worry about being kept out. The fur bristled along his spine these two legs had no consideration, no moral. They took what did not belong to them and seemed to care less then any other creature he had witnessed to. The toms ears kept moving trying to pick up the smallest of sounds unused to his surroundings, he felt uneasy here never having liked stepping near the dens of two legs even when he still had a completely solid form.
He approached the reflective surface his breath feeling slightly caught in his throat as he decided to see if he was capable of just slipping inside and not having to worry about some surfaces he felt odd as he felt a ripple shift through him as he squeezed his eyes shut when he stepped through the air felt different and that prompted him to open his eyes slowly. As his eyes opened he realized he had managed to do it though he wasnt sure how. "That is not something I'm going to get used to." he meowed shaking out his fur.

Something pinged on Shadepool's radar. A familiar presence. Regular cats- living cats- might not have the sensitivity to the paranormal that she'd obtained through, well. Becoming paranormal. There was a ripple in the space she inhabited, a surefire sign of another ghost... And he hardly had to wait long to determine the identity of this new soul. A familiar mew broke the air, practically burning his ear fluff with the touch of its sound. Darkcinder! Yes, that- They'd been together, hadn't they? Just before his heart had begun to tug, before a strange force had moved his paws, like liquid, off into the unknown.. It'd proven to be a worthy pursuit, turning up the missing medic before her very eyes, but the journey had been so arduous that she'd almost entirely forgotten her companion. A worrying realization. Every day that passed, it seemed more difficult to hold onto things. Her memories, her recognition of others. Am I.. losing myself?
The concept of degradation loomed at his scruff like the unseen threat that'd cost him everything in the first place. It was so frustrating, having a lack of control that was entirely out of his paws. Forgetting Darkcinder like that.. it gnawed at his bones, uncomfortable and frightening in a way she hadn't felt since she'd been a kit, trembling beneath her mother's coat. This isn't good. Hurrying over, distracted from the mission at large, the blue cat skidded abruptly over to the tortoiseshell phantom. "You're here!" If nothing else, the uncertainty of his lifestate at least proved an extra incentive to work quickly. Never knowing what would change next. Waiting for the day Darkcinder would come after him again, seemingly always keeping an eye out, and he wouldn't recognize-
No. Enough of that.
Her time was over. It was time to save the living, now. To salvage those who could still change their fates.
"It's Vinedapple, my friend. The stars guided me here, by virtue of my unseen pelt- We're the only ones who can do anything against twolegs, the way we are. We must work swiftly."
