- + - Brookshine - + - Brookshine didn't know how this happened. How was she going against all that she'd been raised for, to go meet up with her Clanmates and MoonClan alike in secrecy, violating a leader's law and committing a much stronger treason in one fell swoop, abandoning any Clan's borders in the dead of night - it was all very much so not what she was supposed to do. It was certainly not a decision she thought she'd ever catch herself making! Fallenpetal's scars flashed across her mind, and Brookshine sighed their resignation. There was a good reason for it. Still, they were lost now. Now everyone's going to know I broke the rules because I couldn't even get to the meeting place, they lamented, sitting down to try to make some sort of sense of their location. Still, the mountains seemed... frighteningly new, especially in the night. “I should've been paying attention to where I was going instead of getting in my own head,” they muttered. There wasn't much time for sulking, though. Brookshine leapt to their paws, her fur bristling with nerves as she heard something - someone? - rustling the nearby foliage. She could make out the silhouette of a cat quite a bit larger than her, and prayed silently that this newcomer wouldn't be looking for a fight. |

Pearl found himself drifting another night, aimlessly traversing in hopes he would find a future friend (or at least someone he could ask for help navigating). Leaving seemed a lot easier in his mind than it was now. But he knew it was something he needed to do if he was going to find what he really wanted.
As though his wish were heard, he saw another cat through the leaves! He happily emerged and began to trot over. "Hello there!" Upon closer inspection, he realized the other cat seemed to be wary; he stopped a short distance away to give them some space. "Are you alright?" He sat down, awaiting a response.

- + - Brookshine - + - Oh! She felt almost embarrassed seeing how polite the other cat was being, but the atrocities in her home territory gnawed at the back of her mind. Brookshine settled on sitting back down, not making any effort yet to close the gap. There wasn't a need for it, anyway. “Oh- hello! I'm fine, I'm just a bit lost is all. I guess, lost and frustrated. I'm sure I'll figure it out.” They tilted their head, watching the stranger with curiosity. “What about you? Are you... do you live out here?” |

Live here? He never really lived anywhere, just tried to stick around wherever he could. "No, I just left my-" He hesitated for a second, stopping himself from saying home. "Old place, and I'm looking for somewhere new. I guess we're both a little lost then!" He chuckled, hoping he could help them feel better.

The concept felt so foreign. “If you don’t mind me asking, why are you looking for somewhere new? … what are you looking for in this new place?” Having asked this, she felt her fur prickle in self consciousness. “Oh, um! You don’’t have to answer that… that may be too personal. Um- what’s your name? I’m Brookshine.”They gestured vaguely in… some direction, whichever way camp was. “I’m from SunClan! I’m just… trying to meet up with some other cats.” |

Pearl lit up; it's been so long since he's had an actual conversation that didn't consist of "I'm busy", "Be quiet", and "Go, shoo"! "It's okay, I don't mind! My name is Pearl, and I wanted to find a place to make new friends in!" He looked towards the way she pointed and asked with a smile, "Great! What kind of place is SunClan? Do your other friends mind newcomers?"

- + - Brookshine - + - Pearl’s cheerful demeanor made it easier for Brookshine to relax just a bit. They considered the questions posed. “Well… every cat in the Clan has to help the Clan somehow, so we’re usually fairly busy. Newcomers are usually… well, not particularly trusted, but they’re allowed to stay in the Clan for a time while the leader decides if they can trust the newcomer or not. It’s been going fairly well so far, two outsiders joined fairly recently, actually. A queen and an apprentice.” They wondered idly what Rabbitstar would think of another cat coming with intent to join. After all, they could always use the extra paws of a grown cat… but then, of course, he was the traditional type. “If you greeted cats at the edge of our territory with the intent to join, I’m sure they would at the very least be courteous enough to get Rabbitstar to meet up with you.” |

A new cat and now a whole clan of new cats? Who might even take Pearl in? He couldn't believe his luck, and just when he was about to doubt himself. "Wow, I could possibly stay? That's more than I could have asked for! Thank you for telling me! Now, let me help you." He stepped closer to Brookshine but stood with some space still between the two of them, just to make sure he didn't spook his (possible) new friend. "Where are your friends you were going to talk to supposed to be? Maybe I passed the area on my way here. I could take you!"

- + - Brookshine - + - Her ears felt hot with embarrassment, realizing she'd been quick to offer up a position in the Clan if that wasn't what Pearl had been referring to, after all. All the same, they smiled as he approached and made his offer. “That would be helpful if you could, but don't worry if you don't know where it is, either! I can just follow my scent back to camp, probably... oh, but! It's supposed to be a small cave that's surrounded by bushes, somewhere around here in the mountains, I think.” Brookshine glanced up, only slightly avoiding eye contact with the new cat. “Does that sound familiar?” |

A cave surrounded with bushes...? Pearl looked towards where he first came from to retrace his steps. "I know I was resting in a cave earlier today! But I can't remember if there was a lot of bushes around it. We can check if it's the one though, since it was close by!" He gestured his head to the bushes he appeared from, seeing if Brookshine would want to follow.

- + - Brookshine - + - Brookshine's ears perked up considerably, relief swelling in her chest and restoring the breath she didn't know she was holding. Strange how that happened sometimes. All the same, they nodded with deep gratitude. “Oh, thank you so much!” They took a few steps to show him that they were willing to follow, and smiled gently up at him as they stepped closer. “This is very kind of you. I hope we can get to be good friends if you join SunClan.” |

Pearl was beaming as he led the way; he was able to get and give help, make a new friend, and find a new possible home all in the same night! He was closer to the future he wanted, within reach in a way he can really see happening now. He snapped back to what he was doing as he saw the familiar opening nearby. "This was the place! And look, bushes!"

- + - Brookshine - + - The place fit the visual description she'd been given, but Brookshine didn't truly relax until she smelled the familiar scents of her Clanmates. It made her a little tense to smell MoonClan among them, but she knew that was the point. “Thank you so much,” they said as they dipped their head to display further thanks. “Oh, um! I'm not... really supposed to be out right now, so... maybe tomorrow I can try to join a morning patrol, and you can wait by the border? That way we can meet up without breaking any rules, and you can ask to speak with Rabbitstar about joining. Does that sound good?” |

The satisfaction of succeeding made Pearl's tail sway happily in the air as he said "Sounds like a good plan!" He turned and began to walk away, but looked back and smiled, saying "Thank you again for all this. I hope I'll get to tell you how much it means to me in time." With that, he went off on his way, anticipating the next day already.
