LAVENDERSPARK For most of her life, Lavenderspark has walked a thin line. She'd long sought the perfect balance between maintaining a flawless reputation while doing the least work possible. All to get whatever she wanted. The path of least resistance to being adored.
Lavenderspark reflected on this as she walked along the thinnest part of the stream by the fishing rocks. The section of it was frozen - it probably wouldn't be for long, though. Leafbare was probably going to end soon, and newleaf would thaw this stream into a perilous flood. Just like her. For now though, walking on the ice sent chills along her spine and made her feel... alive. Made her feel like she was actually part of the world around her.
She'd been feeling particularly foggy since Flintstorm's death. It didn't make sense to her. They hadn't particularly gotten along, but knowing she'd likely never see him again... felt weird. The walk was doing her good, though.
The walk was no longer doing her good. With a shudder and a snap the ice beneath her gave way and plunged her into the frigid water below. She managed a shriek of surprise before being fully submerged.

Somewhere by the riverside, black paws sorted between the have and have-nots; Bulbous little flowers, mistakenly sprouted from a little too much sunshine, and left to wilt once more beneath the resurgence of snows and sludge that encompassed most of Moonclan's cold seasons. Youth was foolish, in that way. Overly confident, taking risks for a sliver of chance towards relieving themselves of the darkness and frost. They'd believed, they'd grown, and they'd died. They also made very pleasant nesting decor, if Spidergaze could pick them out before their preservation beneath the crisp slush made its rapid conversion into deterioration. Moisture was an agent of rot, and out here, where the world had begun to thaw once more.. Well, she best work quickly. At least until the frigid cycle began again. But something distracted them from their self-imposed duty. Warped pupils flicked up from the earth, away from where their claws had hooked beneath white petals to probe at the stems beneath. Some trouble at the waters, no doubt. Was it.. really worth it? ... With a low hum, she lifted her fur heavy the flanks from the ground, thick with the feeling of having gotten quite comfortable where she was situated just behind the woodline. But with a shake of her ears, she made off for the noise. After all, for all she could lash her tongue against her clanmates, too oblivious for their own goods.. It was her daughter's birth clan. Best not stir trouble with negligence. Perhaps it'd be an example for some of her denser minded partners, who'd hear a salmon's splash and still ask for squirrel that day.
It didn't take long to find the problem. The bob of fur beneath the floes, that brilliant lavender hue that every cat fawned towards turned almost a sickly ashen where it was just visible beneath the stream-
Spidergaze hurried down to the broken surface, minding her feet as they slid nearer to the sharp edges of the glacial fracture, and took a short breath before plummeting their muzzle into the depths! And oh, what a shock it was, scrunching her face as she had no choice but to part her maw and make a hurried grab for the scruff of this overgrown kit turned tadpole.

♡✧♡ Lavenderspark ♡✧♡ Within the frosty grips of the water, it was hard to be sure which way she'd fallen in from. She was a decent enough swimmer - MoonClan cats needed to be - but between the struggle of keeping the water weight from dragging her long fur down, not having had an opportunity to inhale before the fall, and her blurred vision keeping her from identifying where she even could surface... the situation was difficult to navigate. Lavenderspark couldn't process the gratitude she should've felt when her scruff was grabbed from above. Her own paddling and the mystery pull had her head above ice within moments. Once the rush of the frigid air hit her face, she scrabbled her way onto the ice and then onto the solid snow of the stream's bank - an agitating amount of coughing all the way. Lavenderspark made desperate gulps of air in between coughing up water. As her mind slowed back down, she could finally process the presence of a Clanmate. Even now? She put up her best smile. A gentle breeze reminded her of her imminent danger, and she begrudgingly took to licking her pelt to dry. “Spidergaze! What a relief, thank you for the help!,” she purred between licks of her chest. Best to dry the most vital areas of her body first. “I didn't think anyone would be near enough to help me, you're a real Starsend.” No later than the words escaped her mouth did the images of the recently deceased flash before her eyes. Don't take yourself so literally.“Sorry for that little display, how embarrassing! You'd think I'd know better by now,” she added, chiding herself gently. There was a bit more truth in that than usual, but Spidergaze didn't need to know about Lavenderspark's frustrations. Still... “Do you mind if we keep this between us? I'd hate to start a fuss around camp.” She + Single + Bi

Just like that, before she'd even fully fastened her fangs, there was a jolt of motion- and Lavenderspark emerged from the depths! Or, some wet rag in the general shape of the warrior. The senior of the two almost didn't recognize, seeing that pretty pelt mussed out of perfect placement. My, what would Moonclan think? In the same flurry of motion, she managed to pull free from the suction of the ice bed, hauling up, heavy and wet, with her freshwater find. They took a flank as they finally dragged back onto the bank, the dredge of their cheek fluff dripping like dangling twigs where the water had condensed its volume, but no worse for wear as opposed to their diving partner for the day.
She was silent, for a beat, until the chill of her neck finally began to settle in, enough to spur a creeping smile. Two could play at composure. "Mm, what a pity. There's been a shortage of excitement around camp, this season.. it might have been nice to share a story that didn't end in another body." Blunt words, spoken with the nonchalance of desensitization. But then, that was the life of an outsider, far less protected than these stardazed clannies. None cushier than this cat, across from her, who was spoiled to the riverside and back, and likely to expect the same easy charm to apply here. It was.. funny, in a sense. Whiskers twitched as they pulled up from their reprieve, one paw moistened by her own means before applied to the face, smoothing excess rivulets out from her pelt and slicking fronds out of the open. One eye shut to preen at its edge; But the other, coy and duplicated in its bundle of irises, stayed observing the tabby's plight. "Might I lend a paw? I'm a mother, you know. It's my absolute daymare to see a youngblood still wet behind the ears."

♡✧♡ Lavenderspark ♡✧♡ The water weight kept her fur from bristling at Spidergaze's initial comment, but she could feel the slight tightening from her pelt's effort. “I'm sure we could stir up something else interesting that won't have the Clan worried,” she purred, tense with the potential at her paws. It was clear to her that her mind wasn't as sharp as she'd like it to be. Aside from the dullness she'd been trying to cope with to begin with, it seemed that the frosty plunge and inhaled water didn't do her any favors. In any case, manufacturing drama or events of interest was going to be harder now that she'd said that to Spidergaze. There'd now always be one cat she'd have to worry about catching on - possibly. As the curly white fur on her chest began to spring into their intended form, she mulled over Spidergaze's offer. “Oh yes, Webleaf, right? We mentored apprentices around the same time, so I've worked with her a bit,” The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Lavenderspark had often considered Webleaf to be a little aloof, a puddle of Spidergaze's lake. There wasn't much more time for her to reflect on this to analyze it for anything useful before the breeze reminded her once more that time was of the essence. “Well... if it wouldn't be too much trouble, I'd appreciate the help,” she conceded, almost sheepishly - a feeling quickly buried in her effort to dry her forelegs. Interesting words, from one of Moonclan's brightest. Spidergaze resisted a tilt of the head, only smiling softly to herself as she took in the implications. Troublemaker, are we? Ah, to be young again. Lavenderspark could stir all the puddles she liked until they were muddied and marshy with grime. It was of no concern to the dark warrior, so long as their acknowledged daughter would dodge the consequences. Surely, having shared sentiments in such a way, two cats were certain to have understood each other. Fragile webs would stay woven, and the spider at its corner would stay quietly aside, doing little more than watching with its vision eight-fold.
Those same eyes stayed crinkled as their owner padded forward to make true on their offer, one wink away from tongue-length. "Stay still, then. This won't hurt a bit." The humor was ill suited to an unrelated party, nothing at all like Webleaf, but she couldn't help herself from old habits. Just as promised, Spidergaze lowered her muzzle to brush harmlessly across the same scruff she'd greeted earlier, a sniff for injury before settling into the role of groomer. Quick strokes to fluff those stripes into disarray, but enough to assure her that she hadn't bitten too hard in the heat of the moment. As cold water began to chill her tongue, tasting of winter, clean and crisp, she wasted no time smoothing over the same plot of fur, a process she'd continue until every guard hair out of reach was freed of the river's cling, always looming for a sodden victim to send to the medicine den.

♡✧♡ Lavenderspark ♡✧♡ I didn't expect it to, she mused internally. “And here I thought you had a barbed tongue,” she mused aloud, words spoken before they could be acknowledged by Lavenderspark's icy mind. They wouldn't be considered afterwards either as she resumed her own effort in drying her pelt. It had been a while since she'd had another cat groom her, and it absorbed all of Lavenderspark's attention. Quick, methodical strokes that lulled her into an uncomfortable calm. An uneasy sort of comfort. The cold water on her own tongue did little to pull her thoughts back. Finally, with the building tension of her relaxation, Lavenderspark tilted her head to cast a quick glance at Spidergaze. No words came to mind. “What do you think of StarClan?” Though the words weren't monitored, she'd let them pass this time. After all, didn't Spidergaze come from outside the Clan? She was sure she'd heard that. Cats born and raised in the Clan had varying opinions on StarClan, so surely whatever their opinions were, Spidergaze's point of view would offer... something. Lavenderspark wasn't sure what she was looking for, but she hoped they would have it for her. She + Single + Bi
