Intro to the ClansAs you've probably noticed, we don't have the traditional five Clans from the books here at WCC. Instead, we've got two brand new Clans with their own territory, history, and lore. Here is everything you need to know about the lore here at WCC.
Table of ContentsThis is the Celestial Territories, where SunClan and MoonClan make their homes. A couple things to know about this map
Green is spruce land
Yellow is moorland
Light purple is mountains
Light blue is bodies of water
Brown is the SunClan border
Dark blue is the MoonClan border
With that established, let's dive right in!
MoonClan TerritoryMoonClan's territory is a mixture of spruce forest and wetlands. Their territory is flatter and had a lower elevation than SunClan's territory. It is also home to many bodies of water from lakes to and river to streams and ponds. Every year, heavy spring rainfall and snowmelt from the mountains cause MoonClan's territory to flood. Most of the year, they make their camp between two small rivers. However, when it floods, they are forced to move to the Newleaf camp at the base of the northern mountain range.
Working from north to south, their territory is as follows:
Newleaf camp (April to July)When the yearly flooding makes the southern camp uninhabitable, MoonClan cats migrate to their newleaf camp. It is at the base of the northern mountain range and it borders the Moon Pond. All of the dens are in small caves carved at the base of the mountain. They were created when the Great River shifted course.
The three dens at the bottom are the warriors' den, the apprentices' den, and the medicine cat's den. In the middle are the nursery and elders' den. At the very top is the leader's den. Each level is offset from the other, and a narrow path zigzags between them. The leader's den is offset the most as the stone forms a small overhang, where the leader makes their announcement.
The rest of the camp is bordered by a small bramble wall that must be built each season. The fresh-kill pile is located in the center of the camp.
MoonClan camp (August-March)Also called the southern camp, this is where MoonClan resides for most of the year. It is bordered by two smaller rivers that branch off from the Great River. The side not enclosed by the rivers has a small bramble wall that must be rebuilt each season.
There is a small pile of rocks in the middle of the camp that encloses the fresh-kill pile. These rocks are often warm in the sun and smaller cats will use them to sunbathe.
On the western side of the camp, the medicine cat's den is closest to the camp's entrance. It is made from a large fallen spruce tree and is propped by a boulder on one side. Bramble walls are built to close it into a den. It is backed up against the northern river to give medicine cats easy access to the water.
On the same side as the medicine cat's den are the elders' den and the nursery. They are made of abandoned badger dens dug out in the ground. The dens have been expanded by MoonClan warriors. The entrance to the den is a wide tunnel that goes in both directions, the elders' den on the western side and the nursery on the eastern side.
The warriors' and apprentices' dens are constructed out of the roots of two small spruce trees close to each other. The tops of the branches are reinforced with brambles and the ground underneath the branches has been dug out to give each den more room.
Similar to the warriors' and apprentices' dens, the leader's den is constructed from the roots of a larger oak tree that stands near the crest of the two smaller rivers. The leader will call Clan meeting from a low branch on the oak tree.
WetlandThis is the area between the outer river of MoonClan's camp and the great river. This area has the most flooding out of all of MoonClan's territory. It is common for water to stay here throughout the entire year.
The spruce trees that adorn the rest of MoonClan's territory are sparser here. Only those the best adapted to water survive.
This area is the primary hunting grounds of MoonClan cats. They have adapted to living around the water; many MoonClan cats sport waterproof pelts. In the Wetlands they can hunt small fish, frogs and ducks as the most common prey. In the wetlands, a MoonClan warrior needs to look out for geese, otters and very rarely alligators. Only a few alligator sightings have ever been heard of in the Celestial territories, and they have all taken place during or near a bad flood season.
Training LeveeThe traiing levee is between two smaller rivers that branch off from the Great River. It is mostly sandy, has trees adapted to water due to the flood season. The terrain here is uneven as it rises and falls with the banks of the two rivers it uses for borders. This makes it ideal for battle practice as it gives MoonClan apprentices some experience on terrain that isn't flat land.
Fishing RocksThe great lake has a rocky coats on the MoonClan side of the border, and this is what makes up MoonClan's fishing rocks. The rocks are large enough that several cats can sit on them and fish at once. There are small coves and cakes inbetween the rocks where one can find crawdads. MoonClan warriors need to be careful here as it is not unheard of for a MoonClan warrior ro inure themselves or get stuck between the rocks. MoonClan fishers will often catch bluegill, bass, and the most skilled will occasionally catch catfish.
SunClan TerritoryThe banks of the Great River open up to hilly moorland. SunClan territory is much drier than MoonClan territory, with one greater river, one pond and some smaller streams. It is elevated higher than MoonClan territory, so it does not share its neighbor's flooding problem. Instead, it is common for small fires to break out on the dry grass during the warm season. SunClan territory isn't just grass. It is also home to various species of moss and wild flowers of all colors.
Again working north to south, SunClan territory is as follows:
SunClan's campUnlike MoonClan, SunClan stays in the same camp year-round. The camp is located in the northeastern part of the celestial territories. It is constructed similarly to the MoonClan Newleaf Camp in the sense that many of the dens are made out of cavities in the rocks that form the base of the camp.
The overall camp is made in the bed of a dried-up pond. The soil is very rich, and many different wildflowers grow within the camp. It is easy to build dens here as much of the ground is made of clay leftover from the pond. Because of this, it is not uncommon for SunClan camp to have minor flooding during the seasonal flooding, but it hasn't caused them to move camps yet.
The elders' den and nursery are both made of such cavities at the base of the mountains. There is a considerable amount of space between the two dens where queens will sunbathe or kits will listen to stories from the elders.
Across camp are the warriors' and apprentices' dens. They are each formed underneath of gorse bushes. The outline of the den is made of a small wall of clay shaped by SunClan warriors and apprentices. The walls are reinforced with brambles, and the warriors and apprentices must reinforce these after each flooding season.
In the center of camp, there is a small dead oak tree. Much of the soil and clay has been cleared from this. The Clan leader makes their den beneath these roots and calls Clan meetings from the dead tree's branches.
A few yards away from the leader's den is a pile of boulders that hosts the fresh-kill pile. Cats are knwon to sunbathe and share tongues on these rocks.
Sunchaser's MeadowFor much of SunClan's history, Sunchaser was regarded as a legendary warrior. He was said to be able to run faster than light and could bolt straight across the meadow in the blink of an eye.
Sunchaser's Meadow is among the most beautiful spots in the celestial territories. It is somewhat rocky with slight hills. The rocks have a plush vibrant green moss of them that make them the perfect spot for SunClan warriors to sunbathe.
Sunchaser's Meadow is filled with all kinds of wildflowers in every color. It is common for SunClan mentors to bring their apprentices here during the springtime just to relax and enjoy the view of the flowers.
It is common to find mice and squirrels snacking on seeds in Sunchaser's Meadow. Alongside its beauty, it is one of the easiest hunting spots in SunClan territory.
Golden PondThis is the largest body of water on SunClan territory. There are soft hills surrounding the lake, leaving it elevated a little bit higher than the surrounding land.
There is a river that flows south from the Golden Pond. SunClan warriors are trained in fishing, but they don't use it as often as MoonClan warriors do.
Lack of shade in the overall territory makes the Golden Pond a great spot for SunClan warriors to cool off and relax. It is said that, very rarely, the sun will hit the pond's waters at just the right angle to turn the water gold.
Training HollowA spacious hollow near the river makes the perfect spot for SunClan warriors to train their apprentices. It is close to the Golden Pond's river, so SunClan apprentices can practice their fishing and combat skills all in one.
It is a shallow, wide dip in the ground. Course sand from the nearby river makes up the ground in the Training Hollow.
HistoryAncient History - General Background InformationFor generations, SunClan and MoonClan have been at war with each other. SunClan warriors believe in their nobility. They are the strictest with the warrior code and believe StarClan wants them to be the rulers of the Celestial Territories. MoonClan warriors find SunClan warriors to be arrogant, power hungry tyrants. The two Clans are constantly at each others throats trying to secure land from one another. The most contested area in the Celestial territories is a patch of wetland on SunClan's side of The Great River.
Recent History - From site creation (Feb 2022) to present day (June 2023)MoonClan leader Hailstar loses his mate and daughter in a battle against SunClan that he ordered. He decides that war between the two Clans needs to end, but as his reign comes to an end, he knows he isn't the cat to do it. He appoints Pansyheart as his deputy. She is known in MoonClan for her pacifist ideals and her hesitance to engage in battle with SunClan.
Moons pass and Pansyheart becomes Pansystar. She often retreats from battles or avoids them entirely. This makes her very unpopular emong her warriors, especially the older ones. They believe that MoonClan has become a doormat to SunClan's leader Beestar.
Tensions remain high between the two Clans when the May 2022 gathering happens. Here, the Clans learn the truth about their origins. They had not been the descendants of StarClan. Instead, they were created by two deities, the legendary warriors Sunchaser and Moondancer.
However, their reappearance does not bring happy news. They tell them their true history, how the two Clans were originally one group of cats that lived with Sunchaser and Moondancer on the mortal plane. They had an island of unity, Moondancer's Grotto. Things when seasons and seasons of heavy rain eventually created The Great River, which separated the group. As they struggled, the groups began fighting over hat little resources were left. Eventually, the conflict was too much for Sunchaser and Moondancer, and they abandoned their creation.
At the May gathering, Sunchaser and Moondancer have one demand: come together. They threaten the Clans if they fail.
After learning this information, Honeyflare of SunClan sets out to create a rogue peace group to bring the two Clans together. He recruits several warriors and they meet in secret in the coming moons.
Pansystar and Beestar make an effort towards peace until August 2022. In August, each Clan finds the bodies of two of their Clanmates who have been mutilated almost beyond recognition. The bodies are covered in the scent of their rival Clan.
Sunchaser and Moondancer meet with SunClan medicine cat apprentice Sloepaw in a dream. They give her her full medicine cat name of Sloeflame, but also a warning of a mysterious third force.
The two Clans go into the gathering tense when Pansystar demands that Beestar answers to this crime, unaware that Beestar was found dead the month prior. Her deputy, Rabbitblaze, took her position and became Rabbitstar. The Clans narrowly avoid a battle as they learn that neither Clan was responsible for the deaths.
In MoonClan, Pansystar is met with stranger Humble Bone, who offers her wisdom in exchange for refuge on MoonClan territory. Humble Bone tells Pansystar things about the deities that no outsider should know, so she reluctantly agrees to the deal.
MoonClan arrives to the November 2022 gathering first. In the middle of the gathering place, they find the murdered body of SunClan apprentice Shallowpaw. Rabbitstar, in his rage, attacks Pansystar. The spat is short, and when tempers settle the two leaders come together and decide they're done following Sunchaser and Moondancer. The gathering ends early with this agreement.
Their disobedience enrages Sunchaser and Moondancer, and they decide that they're tired of waiting. The Clans had chosen their path They raised Moondancer's Grotto not as a place of peace, but as a battlefield and eventual grave for their creation.
In the end, the battle was won by the Clans. After seriously injuring Moondancer, Sunchaser retreats to his realm. To the Clans' dismay, the cosmic energy on the battlefield was so intense that it created a time vortex. They had traveled moons into the future, completely skipping newleaf.
All the warriors who did not attend the battle awoke from a deep coma, finding themselves in the future. SunClan warriors found themselves in a flaming camp while MoonClan warriors found themselves in a flooded camp.

ReligionSunClan and MoonClan continue to follow StarClan in spite of their discoveries about Sunchaser and Moondancer. StarClan operates similarly to how it does in the books: warriors who live good lives and (mostly) follow the warrior code rest in StarClan while warriors who commit crimes and live dishonest lives are trapped in the Dark Forest.
Sunchaser and Moondancer have no known power over StarClan.
As well as StarClan, their are higher beings the Clans know as deities. There are may of them, not all known to the Clans currently. They come at varying strengths.
Known Deities:Sunchaser (Ascended): Creator of SunClan and MoonClan. Takes the form of a lion and fights with solar energy
Moondancer (Ascended): Creator of SunClan and MoonClan. Takes the form of a snow leopard and fights with lunar energy
Sunchaser (Lesser): Takes the form of a domestic feline
Moondancer (Lesser): Takes the form of a domestic feline
And that caps off our lore recap! Obviously, you're not expected to know every detail of this by heart, but having a general idea of the events and history will help you fit your character into the world of WCC!
