To be meant to patrol with four cats, only to have Coyotesprint get herself hurt and end up being escorted - or rather, dragged - back to camp by Brookshine while Rabbitstar was simply too stubborn to give up the patrol, even if it broke the rule he himself had made about needing three or more cats when getting far from camp. Still, with nine lives still left to spare, that takes off some of the concern, doesn't it? He tries not to think about that, instead letting his eyes drift to the bright orange next to him. His only remaining patrolmate. Crowflame . Has he ever talked to Crowflame for much longer than assigning duties? They may be a strange cat, but xe certainly... well, it seems like he does her work at least. Rabbitstar's preferred form of socialization has long been to simply listen to other cats, perfectly content to let others share what they will with them, but in this scenario... “Be sure to keep your guard up, with our patrol having been halved,” they decide as a simple reminder. They lift their head, trying to gather the scents in the air as they walk before tumbling over a rock that reaches up to their elbow, falling forward to the base of a hill. Fur prickling with embarrassment, he's at least thankful they were already downhill. That could have been worse. “... try not to get distracted.” |

“Do not worry, little leader.” Crowflame meowed, puffing out her chest proudly. “I’m big enough, I’m practically two cats!”
The haughty cat squeaks as Rabbitstar takes his tumble, watching his leader with wide eyes. “Are you alright?” They towered over the smaller cat, staring. “Perhaps you should be more careful and not get distracted.” Xe mused bluntly, tilting xeir head. She didn’t mean it disrespectfully, she was just stating a fact.

Well, she may have a point, she's certainly about three times his size... still, that claim and Crowflame's blunt response as xe tells them to be careful... it ruffles his fur a little. Pulling himself to his paws properly, he gives his pelt a little shake and then nods up at Crowflame. “I'm fine,” they answer with a flick of an ear. “The air smells clear, at least. I can't smell any rogues or MoonClan cats so far. Seems our biggest concern right now is rocks.” He learned very early on in his adulthood to reach for humility, but even with the light joke fresh off his tongue, he can still feel his ego burning. “Well, as they say, a quiet border patrol is a successful one,” they add, in almost a grumble. “... Crowflame, you really aren't worried about encountering hostile cats with just the two of us out here?” |

For all her boasting, Crowflame hasn’t really thought about what she’ll do if faced with hostile cats. The huge cat stops and thinks, his long tail flicking in a manner that seemed almost thoughtful. There were only two of them…and for all Crowflame’s boasting, it has been some time since they last got to put their fighting skills to the test.
“We’ll be fine.” Xe meows confidently with a curt nod of xeir head. “The two of us are more than capable. You are the leader, afterall. I can’t imagine a leader would be approved if they couldn’t handle a measly fight.”

✧･ﾟ: *✧･ﾟ:* Rabbitstar *:･ﾟ✧*:･ﾟ✧ His tail uncurls slightly and promptly re-curls into its resting position, reflecting idly on Crowflame's response. “This is true,” they acknowledge with a stifled hesitance. “Let's try not to get too arrogant, though. Beestar presumably lost her lives in a fight, and I've only been leader a few moons.” The grim reminder sends an uncomfortable chill down his spine, and he briefly debates with themself about whether they should have brought apprentices along or not. Well, they're only about a quarter of the way through the border patrol, there's not really much time to debate about the past. Instead, Rabbitstar simply gives the air a sniff and keeps walking. “If your fighting skills are even half of what Iceglow claims his are, I'm sure we'll be fine,” he jokes wryly. It's one of the few things he can relate to xem on - the impossibly tight bond between a pair of siblings. They know the pair like to squabble for fun, and they've heard enough of Iceglow's ego to last all nine of their lives. Good enough fuel for conversation. |

“I highly doubt anything we meet out here could take away all nine or your blessed lives at once. …Though that would make a good story.” Crowflame mused, apparently unaware of how…morbid she sounded.
At the mention of his brother, the large warrior scoffed.
“Please, my skills are three times what Iceglow’s are; I could take him in a fight twice over.” Despite the confrontational tone, the large cat smiled fondly. The playful rivalry they had with their brother was clearly very special to them, and something that they held dear.
“You have a sibling, yes?” Xe suddenly asked, tone still conversational. “Are you the Crowflame of that relationship?” She chuckled lightly as she spoke, apparently feeling comfortable enough to joke with the Leader.

✧･ﾟ: *✧･ﾟ:* Rabbitstar *:･ﾟ✧*:･ﾟ✧ Curled ears stopped their surveying for just a moment. What did that… mean? He and Wildspring weren’t anything like Crowflame and Iceglow. With xeir boasting, was that meant to be asking if he was the better of the pair? The stronger? Certainly not, he answered to himself, appalled by the knowledge of what a much younger cat would have answered… He opted to ignore that troubling question and instead focus on another curious statement made by the large amber cat. “Who would be able to tell that story, though? Surely, if I lost all nine lives, whatever took them would kill you, too?,” he inquired with an air of humor. Just this once, I’ll humor this line of thought, he decided. After all, they needed to get to know the cats of SunClan better, right? Crowflame was a curious case, and getting to know her would be considerably different than how he’d gotten to know Turtlefang and Darkcinder in the past. |
