RABBITSTAR The nights were always longer in leaf-bare. As if the cold chased the sun away all the sooner, hiding for warmth beyond the horizon. The night was made that much longer by the way Rabbitstar had struggled with sleep ever since becoming leader. It was true he hadn't really been one to sleep much even before, his paws were nearly impossible to keep still. His thoughts were worse, though. Exacerbating the matter was his new den itself. How did he have more space than ever before, and yet, feel more contained? More trapped?
With a huff of agitation, he snuck out of camp that night.
He didn't go far, but with most of the Clan asleep and the night patrol out and not expected to return for a good while, it was a good opportunity to take some time to himself. He stuck to his rule, not straying much further than three tail-lengths away. Something about the cold made him ache lately, but the cold air was refreshing. As he walked, his forelegs plunged into the snow. A much deeper portion than he'd expected, he gave a short yowl of surprise. He reoriented. It wasn't... too bad. He could probably dig himself out of the snow with some time. Thankful for his long fur buying him a little more time, he got to work.

It wasn't like Tinyleaf made a habit of lurking around, lately. More than anything, he knew the importance of staying safe on a cold day, and leaving night patrol to their frigid stroll around the meadows. Any normal cat would feel blessed to be on days, where at least the illusion of sunshine could placebo them into warmth. With those rays out of sight, the darkness seemed to creep into your very bones, stealing any body heat which remained and taking up the empty pockets with that deep, embodying cold. Cold, cold, cold. So naturally, he was sneaking out of camp again. Not breaking any rules! Or, well. Maybe the numbers rule.. but it was all for good cause, so it didn't matter. It's not like the curfew was anything but suggestion, anyway. Only apprentices were bound to camp by technicality. A strong warrior with something to get done was no big deal! Surely. And by golly, did he have something to get done. Or.. he thought he did, until he heard the sound of a cat going under. A clipped yowl was all it took for his ears to prick up, alert, before he finished hurrying out of camp to pursue the problem. Who is it? Night patrol? So even Rabbitstar's custom chosen warriors needed a helping paw sometimes. All the more proof that they shouldn't have a divide between shifts in the first place! Tinyleaf bounded quick over the snow drifts, quicker still to the churning sound of paws somewhere.. below?
...
Orange eartips peeked over the edge of the leader's prison, preceding a gawking stare. Oh my goodness!
"Rabbitstar! What are you doing down there?" Well, that was probably self explanatory. Flustered- not wanting to look stupid in front of his leader of all cats- Tinyleaf reprioritized. Rescue always came first! Search, rescue, then assessment! Before the little tortie could answer, he squared his shoulders. If his commander were trapped, he'd simply have to command his own action! "Keep your paws close and warm. I'll get you out!"
He said. And then stepped. And then slid.
Thwump.

✧・゚: *✧・゚:* Rabbitstar *:・゚✧*:・゚✧ Rabbitstar's pelt prickled with shock as a warm body came crashing down on him. Of course they'd heard Tinyleaf when he was up above, but they hadn't expected for him to fall in. Let alone on them. With a brief moment of wriggling from beneath the other tom, Rabbitstar popped out from beneath him so that they were next to one another. “Well, I guess we should start digging,” they murmured, looking upwards to assess what the best strategy would be. The small warmth from there now being two cats down there lingered in Rabbitstar's mind, curiosity finally winning out. “... What were you doing out and about this time of night, anyway?” Not that Rabbitstar really had a lot of room to ask, maybe, but Tinyleaf was always so... well, he was Tinyleaf. It was a little unusual. He/They + Single + Bi + Leader + App: Harepaw

No. No way. Right? Despite getting the air smacked out of him as he landed into the pit, Tinyleaf couldn't help the small, incredulous smile that crossed his muzzle as his brain froze up trying to process what had just happened. Who was just beneath him. Oh Starclan. Please forgive me!!The little warrior (ironic, considering his company), scrambled to his paws in a heartbeat, hurried apologies already forming in his maw, dry from the heat flash of embarrassment that temporarily guarded his pelt from leafbare's touch. But before he could, Rabbitstar had already begun to speak, even toned and calm as usual. A natural leader, never shaken. Never bothered. The swift dismissal of the incident had his paws practically thawing with relief, the flustered warmth of his skin seeping away like a trickle of an icicle come spring. Unfortunately, that also left the perfect void for the cold to swoop back in and fill. Oh no- His leader would be cold, too! Colder, even. Quicker than he'd been to even start grovelling, Tinyleaf scampered the very, very small distance to the other cat's side, nosing the snowy incline standing in their way. Powdery surface layer, but slick and compact beneath, from repeated refreeze and pressure overhead. That'd be difficult to work with. He'd seen it time and time again out in the meadow, the way it bothered the craggled roots of border bushes throughout the grasslands. Never good, never good. Bad for plants, bad for animals!
As he was addressed, he managed not to freeze up a second time. He couldn't! Fallen or not, he would fulfill his promise! I'll save you, Rabbitstar! And to do that, a little lie wouldn't hurt anyone, right? Right! They were probably already stressed out about the current dilemma. No need to put anything else out there. Not that he was being unruly! Just. Well.
"I woke up when I heard night patrol leaving!" Keeping his mew light, he lifted his muzzle to offer the smaller cat a sheepish blink; The most he could manage before his gaze went dancing back to their objective, still dizzy with the shame of having squashed Starclan's chosen.. and now having lied to their face. Tinyleaf vowed, privately, that he'd go to the Moonpond and repent properly another night. Bushing out his bright fur against the white of their sparkling prison, he reared up slightly, balancing his spotted paws against the drift wall to begin working at the surface. A flurry of crystalline dusts came shimmering down with his first few scoops! It was such a pretty sight, dancing in the moonglow. Momentarily distracted, his whiskers twitched excitedly as he watched the downward drift. Oh- And then, patched head jerking back up into focus, he swatted again at the snowbank. "I guess we should worry about our leaving, now. But two's half the work!"

✧・゚: *✧・゚:* Rabbitstar *:・゚✧*:・゚✧ Woke with night patrol? Rabbitstar wondered idly if they'd never noticed that Tinyleaf was a sensitive sleeper. Then again, how often was Tinyleaf ever sleeping in the den? In any case, he was right about them needing to get out. “Right- hopefully with the two of us, we'll be out in no time. Busy paws like ours aren't suited to just standing around, after all.” With that, they got quickly to putting those aforementioned busy paws to work. Rearing up, he dug his paws into the snowy wall and pulled downwards with some success. The hardened ice was knocked somewhat loose, and the softer snow fell obediently downwards. They were fortunate enough to not have been buried in the effort, and felt encouraged to continue trying to dig enough of a slope for the pair to climb out. Oh, but... He turned to Tinyleaf again. “Try not to let your paws get too cold. If you do start to get unbearably cold, let me know. Between the two of us, my fur is longer.” How embarrassing to have put a loyal warrior like Tinyleaf into this situation. If it came to it, Rabbitstar would gladly do the majority of the work if that was what Tinyleaf's health necessitated. Leafbare couldn't be over soon enough. Ah- For all the cold nipping at his nose, Tinyleaf couldn't be any warmer as his paws shoveled that more furiously at his side of the bank. Rabbitstar's always so kind and thoughtful..! He'd be hard pressed to take the offer up, when more important pads were at stake, but the very thought of receiving his leader's consideration.. After the tumble they'd taken together, it was more than he deserved! But that's just what makes them the cat in charge!
"I'll do my best!" With a chirp geared the munchkin's way, he let his claws slide out experimentally, scraping cautious at the hardened underside of the snow to see if some extra force might cave the compact. He wouldn't very well be a warrior if he couldn't manage this much- A subordinate was meant to pick up the slack, following commands and contributing labor to the commanding cause! As nice as it was to work alongside one of Starclan's destined, basking in the winter shimmer of the snow's albedo off Rabbitstar's cream pelt like it might grant him some starlight of his own.. he wouldn't forget his place!
Eager to contribute (and lessen the other's exposure to the unyielding cold), he reared up to stretch that little bit higher, digging further up the landslide to churn away some snow that the smaller cat wouldn't be able to reach. "Don't worry, though. My paws won't be much warmer waiting around on the frozen ground. I hear moving around actually helps! So, hehe- I guess I'll be moving as much as I can!" The laugh gave way to a cheery sway of his tail along one flank, seemingly unbothered by the shower of white that rained down onto its bright tip where it curled into the avalanche zone of the tom's working paws. A few flakes clung to the hairs as it maneuvered back to safety, before the gradual defrost left them melting down to the base of his fur. Getting messy is just a symptom of hard work, he told himself, as the now wet appendage gave a twitch of discomfort.

✧・゚: *✧・゚:* Rabbitstar *:・゚✧*:・゚✧ Rabbitstar nodded approvingly at Tinyleaf's words, and continued his effort in digging out a slope in the snow. “It'll be a fine balance between quick work and preventing frostbitten paws,” they grumbled with a brief flex of their paws. The frequent reaching up put a very simple realization into his mind, nearly prompting a pause before he reminded himself that time was of the essence. As he continued working, their purple eyes settled on his warrior companion. “Tinyleaf, you're a climber, right? One of those cats who enjoy being up in the canopies? How high can you jump?”Jumping might be difficult if the snow at the top was loose, or if their movements had made the ground they stood on slick, but it could also greatly decrease the effort they needed to put into digging themselves out - ... in hindsight, it might not be all that helpful with those limitations. Hadn't Tinyleaf fallen in because of the aforementioned risky loose snow up at the top? He contemplated this deeply, his gaze returning straight in front of him as his eyes narrowed with the deep thought. Weighing the pros and cons. If they got the snow low enough for a good jump, would it really matter if he fell back in? What was the difference in their jumping capabilities? Well. As compact as his legs were, jumping was an unpleasant task for Rabbitstar. He'd gotten good enough at it, but it could be quite exerting. Especially lately, with an unfamiliar ache that had begun into his bones. It'd probably be worth it, if it meant surviving, though. He/They + Single + Bi + Leader + App: Harepaw
