Things in Moonclan had been... strange. So odd that even a kitten could recognize it!
Sandkit hadn't existed for very long. As far as ve knew, life began and ended in the safety of Goldenshade's split-toned pelt. Whether it be the warm sunshine of her right or the soothing shadows of her left, his mom was always there for him and the rest of ver siblings. It'd been so easy, to be young, even if Sandkit hadn't yet realized what being young even meant just yet. Things like age, like time, like the stirrings of uneasy hackles outside the nursery walls.. none of it meant anything. All that is and ever was had been contained, like the curl of a chimera tail around her tiny body, within the limitations of a new mind yet to expand. It didn't matter how many starry nights ve'd seen since the world had embraced ver. It only mattered that it was.
And oh, it was beautiful. Even he could tell that much!
Under the gentle veil of Silverpelt, Sandkit blinked up at the stars with big, sunny eyes that refracted light which had long since faded below the horizon.
..and then blinked, just as curiously, to the full moon which had seemed to spawn within ver home without so much as a disturbance of its twin held in the sky above. A big cat, and white like a ghost! Not the first in Moonclan, mind you. She was reminded, none too gently, of Swiftsnow's puffball pelt just across the den. But if Swiftsnow was a dandelion's head, full and round with soft threads of wind wisps ready to be blown away, this new cat was the opposite. A sleek, trim pelt that mimicked the early frosts of a cold morning, the way it sparkled across crisp grass before the dawn beams came to warm it. Colder. Sharper, somehow. And infinitely more hardened. Maybe it was the curve of pink stripes across xeir pelt, or the muted, pale gaze that clung to the world around it like a cobweb far removed from Spidergaze's own abnormal hue... but this cat was definitely one of a kind. So much so that Sandkit had initially wondered if they were even a cat at all, for a time, because if so, then why did all his clanmates seem to pass it by like she didn't exist in the first place..? Anyone would assume they were a ghost, at that rate, but Ashkit had been confident enough in stating the opposite. Ashkit was confident in most everything, really, being the smart one he was!
So Sandkit didn't feel too scared, at last, when ve rose to her tiny paws to creep along the mouth of the exit, like a cautious rabbit toeing the boundary line of its burrow. Like a rabbit, he did so with one goal in mind. The only one worth risking your life over.
To get a better look.

▸HUMBLE BONE◂ VOICE OF CLAWS Humble Bone was settled. Not being minded by the majority of the clan was not his problem right now, it would only grow into an issue once the snow came. They wouldn't be able to leave whatever den they picked at that point unless they wanted to risk early blindness. But it was here, for now, simultaneously learning names and clan culture as it gathered its thoughts on just how much Pansystar and Foxlily should be permitted to know. She was, in fact, "writing" in the dirt while it wasn't frozen and packed too deep. It wasn't a language they properly knew yet; they'd seen in on artifacts and structures in the mountains and was studying it. So far, she knew the words for 'sun', 'moon', 'cat', and only a few others they latched onto. It was difficult to interpret easily on its own, it was paired with symbols and colors it didn't have the ability to mimic just now; all it looked like was scratches and dots, never exceeding four of either in a character.
It glanced up cooly, glancing around the camp from where it sprawled out, watching cats do their duties. The structure was interesting but so disordered in his mind. He could improve this. Her ear flicked a moment as she noticed a face she hadn't seen properly yet: a kit, inching its way out of one of the more secure dens it charted. They wouldn't let their gaze linger for too long; they knew their eyes were as unnerving as they were enchanting. She didn't consider the idea that the kit would be intrigued enough by her to creep away from its mother, but she wasn't pondering that at the moment.
It continued its practice, hoping that he was at least pleased by its progress. ▸ speaks in "bold #e176e0" ▫ attack in bold italic #e176e0 ◂ © Artificial-Radiance

⌘ Ashkit ⌘ Little black ears darted up, bright blue eyes now wide open and brimming with curiosity - when were they not? Forgoing her faux-sleep, Ashkit crept after Sandkit with deep fascination. “What are you doing?,” he whispered. Something he asked multiple times a day. Not just of Sandkit, but of anyone and everyone within her range. Of course, it was impossible not to notice the pale, giant stranger doing... whatever it was they did. The clues almost visually fell into place. “Are you going to talk to her?”In reality, Ashkit had been thinking about Humble Bone and his goals the whole time she'd spent pretending to be asleep. How different were the lives of cats outside of MoonClan? Outside of the Clans? Just what was it doing here? A flurry of questions about the nature of existing and what it might have to do with the allegedly strange circumstances shrouding the Clans. Weird how what was normal for one cat might be so strange to others. To Ashkit, the world had always been on the brink of collapse. Gods, wars, blood - and now outsiders staying in camp. Outsiders with strange habits and strange actions and strange motives. There was no way she could fathom what a "normal" period for the Clan could possibly look like. With every adult around her seemingly having every facet of their knowledge called into question, Ashkit had naturally been drawn to another cat who seemed grounded by having a question to pursue. “I wanna come.” He/She

Ve'd been so busy peeking out at Humble Bone, ears perked towards the weird indents of dirt that were being pushed up by careful claws- with intention?- that when Ashkit's voice happened upon ver busy ears, Sandkit nearly tumbled over in surprise! After all, with all the peeking and prodding she could get up to sometimes, it was important to stay quick on her paws in case Goldenshade's nose came swooping down to give a scolding nudge to her unknowing back.. but this time, his tumbling was less a product of clumsy preparation and more one of complete and total shock! Just barely catching his paws before they carried ver in a precarious roll out of the nursery, Sandkit settled ver stance and turned sheepishly to her sibling. "A-Ashkit..! You're awake, too?"
The question almost didn't process for a moment. How could it? Going along to talk to a stranger was, well. A total rookie mistake! At least, that's what mom had always told her.. to which Sandkit had pondered what stranger really meant in the context of growing up fully surrounded by a walled community. The arrival of an actual stranger in the heart of their camp had been a break from the norm, something that seemed to validate every concern Goldenshade had about kittens chatting to unknown cats. As silly as the warning had seemed at the time, it now proved relevant regardless. And yet here was Ashkit, already raring to go!
As fascinated as the little tabby had been, Sandkit already looked down at the ground uncertainly, feeling the curiosity which had spurred ver onwards sinking alongside his gaze. "Umm.." His whisper was strained, almost embarrassed to have been caught without the commitment to continue the momentum of her minuscule rebellion. "I don't know.. Nobody else is talking to it. We might get in trouble..."

⌘ Ashkit ⌘ Giving an amused twitch of his ears to Sandkit's uncertainty, Ashkit gave ver a gentle nudge with some sort of reassuring intent. “If he was bad to talk to, Pansystar wouldn't have let them stay in camp like this,” she reasoned. His other more private reasoning was the very fact that nobody else was talking to it. If nobody was paying them any mind, would they really notice a pair of minuscule kittens? The two would be hard to notice in comparison to the ground-carving cat with his unique appearance. At least, in Ashkit's mind that was the case. “No one ever said we can't talk to her, anyway, so it wouldn't be fair for anyone to get mad at us.” Just because it wasn't fair didn't mean it would stop other cats from doing it, maybe, but Ashkit felt emboldened by Sandkit's hesitance. If there was one thing she knew would give courage to the uncertain, it was to lead by example. With his mind made up, he trotted quickly over. “What are you doing?,” she asked. Ashkit knew it was good manners to look at the cats you spoke to, but his gaze was transfixed by the... drawings...? “I've never seen drawings like that before.” He/She

▸HUMBLE BONE◂ VOICE OF CLAWS Her ears perked up a little at the sound of approaching little paws, glancing up as Ashkit asked what she was doing. It gave a small hum, seeming debating words before it meowed, "This is called 'writing,' where little lines and pictures have certain meanings. It's like drawing, but for what you are saying." He glanced down at what he had been writing before continuing. "This here," they gestured a little with their paw, trying to not disturb the shifted earth, "means 'Moon Cat'. I suppose you could think of it as meaning 'MoonClan', though that is only because I haven't yet discovered how 'Clan' or 'Group' is written."

⌘ Ashkit ⌘ Writing...? Though the concept confused Ashkit a little, it sounded convenient too. Above all, it sounded interesting. She weighed two questions briefly before giving them a go. “Is writing more convenient than drawing? It sounds harder, if you have to discover how to write certain stuff,” he observed, craning his neck slightly to get a new perspective on the writing as if it would lend particular insight. “Are you making it up, or is someone teaching you?”Most of the knowledge he had was from his mother, but there were plenty of things for kits to make up among themselves. Writing sounded more complicated than any of their play scenarios, though, and she couldn't quite fathom what scenario would prompt making up such a thing. Putting a small paw to a patch of undisturbed earth, he stopped promptly with the realization that he didn't know how to draw out MoonClan. He/She

▸HUMBLE BONE◂ VOICE OF CLAWS It gave a light chuckle, amused and endeared all at once by the kit's questioning. "Writing can be more useful if everyone knows what everything means, just like drawing, but it would be less likely to be confused for something else. I am learning on my own, mostly, but there are whispers that tell me what to do," he hummed, watching her closely as he explained. "There are parts of nature that love to talk. I am fond of the wind and moon's guidance. They're gentle on the ears and eyes, usually." ▸ speaks in "bold #e176e0" ▫ attack in bold italic #e176e0 ◂ © Artificial-Radiance

⌘ Ashkit ⌘ “How do you understand them?” The question was almost given to her, but he didn't mind. Not if it was to understand. Sandkit wasn't forgotten by her, though, and she beckoned quickly for him with her tail. In the undisturbed dirt he'd found for himself, Ashkit dutifully took to creating swirls made of little flecks. The wind had no shape of its own, but he'd watched as it took flecks of snow into beautiful swirls across the forest. Form enough for a kit's drawing. The swirls lead to a crescent moon, and Ashkit tilted his head as he considered this. “You can't see the wind, but you can hear it and feel it. You can only see the moon, though,” she observed. Quietly, he pondered, “unless you're like a medicine cat, maybe... and they talk to you like StarClan...” He/She
