⚞ WHEATPAW ⚟ ⋆⁺₊⋆ sunclan ─ apprentice ─ they/she ⋆⁺₊⋆ ⬤xxThe thin molly padded towards the fresh-kill pile, with her characteristic tail held high and proud, with a rabbit hanging from her jaws. They set down their catch, whiskers twitching with pride.. and that ever present insecurity.
⬤ They pushed it away from their focus for a moment with a flick of their tail, a slightly startling reminder to some odd cats that Wheatpaw's tail was, in fact, a tail, and not merely a stiff straw tacked onto her back.
⬤ Wheatpaw allowed herself to purr a quiet laugh at the thought, but then quieted, –and ironically enough, stiffened– as her thoughts drifted from that point. Had she overheard it, or perhaps had she made it up?
⬤ Wheatpaw wasn't so sure. Recently, whatever they did or heard that wasn't related to their training, or occasionally, her family, got blurred from their mind, like reflections in running water. It wasn't like much happened outside of their training, anyway. None of the other apprentices wanted to talk to or even approach her. Wheatpaw faintly remembered why— they thought she was arrogant, a know-it-all, pretentious.. that if anything, she'd only bring trouble, especially by her connection to Beestar. No, she might forget anything, but not that.
⬤ They ignored it as best as they could. They convinced themself that it was mere envy, and was proud to be the object of it. It meant she truly was better than them. They didn't need any mouse brained little friends. Not even that dumbly charming den-mate that she could hardly ignore. No. If Wheatpaw needed anything, it was Pikestorm's advice and occasionally, when they weren't so busy with their duties, Beestar's. Wheatpaw willingly furthered the rift between her and her den-mates with her attitude.
⬤ Oatpaw was the only one her age that really tolerated her, and Wheatpaw felt it really was just because they were siblings. Wheatpaw paid little attention to Oatpaw, who was just a little plain to her. And let's not mention Honeypaw! Wheatpaw struggled to believe they were siblings at all, with such different views regarding the Code. She gave up long ago on trying to care.. or so she said, glancing at both cats from afar.
⬤ Wheatpaw went on with her apprenticeship like that, but eventually even they, with all the extra training sessions and little tasks, couldn't just ignore everything all the time. It.. hurt. It came down like the unforgiving season of no-leaf at moments.
⬤ So many eyes were on her, and the white-hot glowing shadow of Beestar that eternally loomed over Wheatpaw. Yet she felt so alone. She was the example, the cat always willing to please and serve the clan, yet.. she felt far-away and disconnected.
⬤ The molly looked back on their younger days with yearning. Beestar was there. They feared of the feeling that approached as quickly as the day of their assessment. When they became a warrior, they couldn't just fall back on Beestar forever. But that was the only cat who really was there for them.

⚞ WHEATBURR ⚟ ⋆⁺₊⋆ sunclan ─ warrior ─ they/she ⋆⁺₊⋆ ⬤xxWheatburr had passed their assessment with the ease of over-preparation. Warrior life wasn't so hard. They had worked extremely hard ever since they were an apprentice, hardly taking breaks, except to groom their wild fur. What else would they do? Playing and chatting and collecting shiny rocks was a waste of time. They couldn't allow themself to waste time. If anything, the sight of the sun climbind the sky during the dawn patrol was enough entertainment, and listening in absent-mindedly to the others talking.
⬤ Wheatburr was well-accustomed to the warrior rhythm since apprenticehood, and could almost relax... Until divine intervention happened.
⬤ She was shocked. She had no idea at all as to how to respond to.. that. She for once distanced herself from that situation, leaving it up to her mother. She knew Beestar would always know what to do.. She hoped Beestar would always be there to know what to do. Even if she wanted to follow her steps and she knew time was unstoppable.. but she couldn't bring her brain to even imagine the possibility of a world without Beestar.
⬤ And then came the deaths. The possibility of war. It all seemed.. off to her. Something wasn't right. But as one of the more determined warriors, despite her youth, Wheatburr was eager to push herself even further. She'd do anything for her clan. She went on patrols and trained and was always vigilant. But to the point in which she hardly remembered that, as she was to take care of the clan, she was also part of the clan. She had to take care of herself too...
⬤ Working distracted her from the crippling loneliness. And she knew Beestar had to be proud of her. She was almost happy amidst the war preparations.
⬤ Almost.
⬤ One day.. Beestar was gone from camp.
⬤ And a patrol went out to find her once too much time had passed.
⬤ Wheatburr wished they had been there. But they had succumbed to the claws of exhaustion and stayed in camp. Then, they were confident that everything would be fine.
⬤ A little more time passed, and little seeds of doubt began to sprout. But they brushed them off. In all the possibilities, Wheatburr could've never had guessed the truth.
⬤ They sprung up as a familiar flash of cream tabby fur appeared— and with wide blue eyes and bristled fur, they ran faster as the scent of death and sight of blood met them.
⬤ And there she was.
⬤ Gone.
⬤ The one cat Wheatburr trusted to be eternal. To be there. The one cat who trusted her, perhaps.
⬤ She'd gone down fighting, and Wheatburr expected no less of her mother. But she hadn't expected her to truly have gone down. She dropped down and for the first time in Sunchaser knows how long, Wheatburr's smug look or her exhausted confidence had both faded completely, leading to nothing more than a broken cat.
⬤ They buried their face in their mother's fur alongside Honeyflare, and for a moment thought of him and Oatswirl- of comforting them- but bitter thoughts of the past came back to them, and they stayed where they were.
⬤ What came next? Did anything even come next? Wheatburr's mind previously buzzed with plans and thoughts and she thought she had a strategy for anything- but not for this.
⬤ Now truly, Wheatburr was completely alone.

⚞ WHEATBEE ⚟ ⋆⁺₊⋆ sunclan ─ warrior ─ they/she ⋆⁺₊⋆ ⬤xxLoss was not something they had ever learned to cope with. They'd seen death. But they never allowed themself to get so close to any cat to feel like this.
⬤ Their mother, their leader, she was gone.
⬤ The previously radiant, proud molly, well groomed and strong, was now dim. Her tail dropped to the ground, trailing behind her. Her pelt smelled of rosemary and lavender, just like her mother's body, which she almost couldn't let go of.
⬤ For the first time ever, she had no desire to do anything anymore. But she had to, and she did, eventually. But it was sickeningly noticeable that she was troubled, deeply troubled. But she spoke to no cat.
⬤ Not long after Beestar's death, and the last time she really spoke to anyone, she went to Rabbitstar, her mother's successor. Wheatburr requested that her name would be changed, to honor her late mother. From then on, she'd be Wheatbee.
⬤ The words of the deities sank her further into uncertainty and sadness. Would her mother be allowed to enter StarClan at all? Would Wheatbee ever see her again?..
⬤ Wheatbee shuddered at the thought, one of many that haunted them, as they walked into camp after a patrol. Their head low and tail dropped, as was now the usual after.. that. They looked almost like a completely different cat. Though, they were still well groomed.. in fact, it seemed like they groomed themself obsessively. Grooming, sleeping, and patrolling, with occasional extra chores. That's all they really did.
⬤ They sniffed the fresh-kill pile, but felt no hunger, and decided to not waste any prey, so they sat in the shade, licking their forepaw once again.

»»——— Honeyflare ———«« He had hardly spoken to his sister since... well, for a few moons. The guilt was an icy void in his chest, exacerbated by seeing her so atypically deflated. “You're going to groom your pelt right off if you keep up like this,” he greeted awkwardly as he made his approach. Honeyflare's volatile flurry of emotions had made him rapidly alternate between working too hard and not working at all - he knew he had no real room to comment on Wheatbee's state. Wheatbee. The new name posed its own threat to his emotions, but for now he kept himself composed. Looking at her now made it all the more obvious to him that his belief that perhaps she and Oatswirl were able to soften the blow by leaning on each other... it just wasn't true. Wasn't the way of things. He thought again of Glimmerpelt, and wondered how his littermates would have handled the situation. He pushed those thoughts aside, and sat a small distance away from Wheatbee. “You know, we could probably make some good changes.” The thought was much harder to articulate now that he was in their presence. Littermates spent their lives together, they should know one another better than anyone else. Yet, he felt like he didn't know them very much at all. So much of their life was in contention, spent competing for something that... well, did it matter now? "... I miss you, you know?” He + Single + Bi

⚞ WHEATBEE ⚟ ⋆⁺₊⋆ sunclan ─ warrior ─ they/she ⋆⁺₊⋆ ⬤xxWheatbee lowered their paw after a few moments, and looked at it with their ears perked to their brother's words.
⬤ She remained silent after he spoke, trying to get her brain to process the situation. She opened her mouth to reply, but closed it shortly after, as words failed her.
⬤ They curled their tail tightly around their paws, trying to get their thoughts together. Miss them? Wheatbee found it a little hard to believe. It wasn't like she'd been gone from SunClan, or that particularly close to Honeyflare, except way back in their youth.
⬤ She looked at him, with puzzled amber eyes.
—Good changes? What?

»»——— Honeyflare ———«« The question sent a jolt of panic through him, a puff of embarrassment rippling through his pelt and prompting his golden eyes to dash away from Wheatbee. “Yeah. It would be a change if we tried to get along, wouldn't it?,” Honeyflare explained, keeping them in his indirect vision. “It just seems like we should try for that, right? You've been... worrying me.” If he hadn't questioned it before, he was certainly starting to wonder if he shouldn't have done this. If he should have sent a cat with more tact, like Brookshine, someone who actually knew how to navigate these situations. “I'm not here to lecture you or anything, though. It's just... hard to see you like this.” He + Single + Bi

⚞ WHEATBEE ⚟ ⋆⁺₊⋆ sunclan ─ warrior ─ they/she ⋆⁺₊⋆ —Well,.. Yes, it would be quite the change.
⬤ Wheatbee seemed to find the idea a little funny. But thinking of it well.. wasn't it a waste of time all along? Not Honeyflare's idea, but rather the eternal.. competition? they've been entangled in for about a sun (year) now.
⬤ A little glimmer made its way to her amber gaze for only a moment, but she still remained a little distant.
⬤ Wheatbee turned her gaze to herself, looking at her pelt, when he had mentioned worry. Trying to see if maybe their pelt looked dirty, or if they'd gotten a scratch without noticing.
—Maybe your first words make- They briefly paused, acknowledging what they thought impossible before —Sense. However.. you shouldn't worry about me. I'm perfectly fine. In top condition, in fact. I had a few herbs a while ago, even. What's so hard to see?
⬤ She mewed- almost hissed- on instinct as she faced the word, acquiring a glimpse of her old demeanor, though with an uncanny hint of her 'new normal'. They tensed slightly, and almost grew taller as they straightened up from their slightly hunched over position, tail sweeping away from their paws as if trying to demonstrate they had nothing to hide.
