A small snake slithers across the dirt floor. 'Hiss Hiss' it whispers. "Hello slithering beast! Ever been caught by a cat?" Lightpaw distracts the small snake. Once the snake stops paying attention to them, he swoops up the wriggling snake. "My clan is sure to love this fresh beast."

Honeypaw Apprentice + He + 11 Moons Amusement contorts his scowl into a reluctant smirk as Honeypaw watches Lightpaw’s snake hunting adventure. “We’ll still have to hunt more than that to feed the Clan,” he lectures though the bite in his words is dampened by his smile. “I know prey is prey so what it tastes like doesn’t matter, but do snakes even taste good to begin with?” He gives the air a few good sniffs, hoping that perhaps the snake was on its way to its own prey - though, looking at it, the snake is too small to be a very good guide. Lightpaw stood up fully straight, realizing they weren't alone. "Ha- hey- heh- mm..." Regaining his composure, Lightpaw started, "Snakes can be more than just food." Lightpaw huffed. "This snake is venomous when it bites things it's like uh worse than a regular snake bite! You get all puffy and hurt like when you're poisoned!! It's useful!!" The snake wriggled out Lightpaw's mouth. Instead of attacking, the snake just hid in a patch of tall grass, snapping at unsuspecting prey.

Honeypaw Apprentice + He + 11 Moons His eyes followed the little snake, quirked in doubt as it slithered off to try to survive. Honeypaw returned his yellow eyes to Lightpaw with a tilt of his head, expression firmly skeptical. “I think you might be thinking of another type of snake,” he meowed. He wrinkled his nose in thought. “If it had been a properly dangerous and venomous snake, wouldn’t that have been dangerous? Like, unnecessarily so? I’m no medicine cat, but I think shooting for poisonous herbs might actually be safer.” Perhaps against his nature, or maybe he just felt like Lightpaw was more excusable with more to learn, Honeypaw didn’t outwardly mention the loss of prey. The other apprentice had seemed pretty adamant on it being perfectly useful in other situations, but the escape of any prey always made him feel on edge. Non-Binary + Bi + Mentor: tba

Willowksy has been watching their affair, pride beaming from his chest. Lightpaw was a spirit like his own: a dazzling light that could not be tamed! Of course, he would flaunt his bravado and try to tame a ghastly snake. Willowsky would do the same thing himself. And, of course, there were always downers that would try and extinguish that inner flame. And Honeypaw was definitely one of them.
"Don't listen to them!" their voice was unnecessarily loud as they approached the two apprentices. "You, Lightpaw, are a true star! Don't let him, or anyone else, diminish your sparkle! You catch that snake and show it your true passion!" They turned their nose up at Honeypaw, not looking at the golden tom. "Anyone who doesn't believe in you must simply get out of the way!" |

Unamused, Sloepaw adds on to Willowsky's encouragement, "Yeah. So sparkly, I can see the light come out of your eyes through your empty skull." Snake hunting was absolutely a dangerous idea, and admittedly, she felt a well of jealousy settle in her gut at the idea Lightpaw, of all cats, was able to handle one with ease. "Do we really want to keep a snake in our camp on the chance we could swing it by its tail in battle and maybe hit someone?"
Yet, it wasn't dead yet... If she got to it first, and made it back before any of the others could call her bluff, it'd skyrocket her reputation as a powerful force.
Dropping to a hunter's stance, Sloepaw observed the snake from behind, ready to jump forwards. |

He glanced over to Lightpaw. “You aren’t actually going to listen to him, are you? He’s got no idea what he’s talking about.”Ears twitching at her words, Honeypaw cast a glance at Sloepaw. If her comment had been more directed at Willowsky, he’d have gladly carried on with her. Lightpaw still had time to see sense, though, in his opinion, so he simply scowled at her. Watching her hunting stance, the admittedly kit-like urge to be a nuisance arose and he smiled despite himself. Being sure to move quickly, he struck out a sheathed paw to give her tail a good swat - not to hurt her, he just wanted to see if it’d surprise her at all. He still wasn’t convinced that snake would make very good prey at all. |

Willowsky scoffed in disbelief. When Lightpaw had been apprenticed, Willowsky had some hope for SunClan. Maybe they'd grow into their true performance! But then came these apprentices to squash it all again.
"You two are really as dull as rocks. The snake can't hurt anyone if it's dead!"
Sloepaw dropped into a hunters crouch, to which Willowksy had to intervene immediately. "No, no, no! This is Lightpaw's Moment to shine! Let him do it!" |
