Welcome to the Hex
What is the Hex?
The Hex is a rogue clowder that is semi-nomadic, though in recent months they've been quite stagnant under Bloodbinder Talon's leadership. They can be hostile to outsiders, but if a cat can prove that they earnestly want to join their ranks, they'd be willing to give them a chance. The Hex are too powerful to worry about intrusion, after all. This has worked well for them, for the most part, as their ranks are full of Hex-born cats and outsiders striving to prove themselves alike, and this has made them strong. It also has lent them a variety of perspectives, meaning that with each outsider taking up a job, there is a cat with foreign experiences that can strengthen their trade. Strengthen their clowder.
Where is the Hex's territory?
While they were a semi-nomadic group, with established camps over a considerable range of territory, the Hex has currently been located north of a mountain range in a forest not too far from human society, but far enough that they rarely encounter any humans. They have camps in human town and in the mountains alike, but a majority (being the other four) lie in the space between. Bloodbinder Talon's approach is that they will strengthen where they are right now, and as the clowder grows, expand so that they occupy multiple camps at once. It's unusual, but the Coven doesn't seem to be taking action against it.
With their current camp in the oak forest, their territory includes a river (Snow River) and a resulting pond from which they fish (the Trout Pond). Other notable landmarks include the Tree Coven, a spot in the forest where the trees are so clustered the light is rarely spotted and mushrooms are abundant, the Turtle Rocks, a boulder formation in the woods that resemble a turtle and its shell where cats often go to play and train, and the Berry Forest, a portion of the forest cluttered with berry bushes likely planted by previous Hex members.
The current camp is in a clearing of the forest where a few trees were felled in a thunderstorm, making use of the stumps and logs alike for dens for sleep and resource storage. They make use of brambles to make extra space if they need it. Cats have individual dens or share a den with their family, though usually bigger logs are for workplaces and storage.

Who are the Hex?
There are a variety of roles in the Hex, but there are two key components. The Coven, and the Haunts. The Coven are the higher ranking cats who decide what the Hex does. They are a council of about five cats that have been recommended and approved by the other Hex members for being capable and trustworthy in deciding what's best for the clowder. They work together, and often have a role outside of the Coven that they partake in. One of these five cats is known as the Bloodbinder, the effective leader of the Hex. The Bloodbinder officiates most ceremonies and decides when and where the clowder should go next. They must be chosen and accepted by the other members of the clowder, but especially the other Coven members. Coven members are the only cats trained to pierce the ears of other cats, and therefore are the only ones qualified for the name ceremony.
The Haunts make up the rest of the clowder - so called due to the legends that that their founding members' ferocity in battle could haunt even the strongest of their enemies. These are the average cats that come in a variety of roles. They often are encouraged to give their input, and the Coven will try to address the issues presented by the Haunts. Haunts start off as kittens, who are taken care of by their parents and/or denkeepers. Denkeepers are cats who have specifically learned how best to take care of kittens, and will therefore assist parents, watch kittens while parents are busy working, or completely take over the kitten's care. They often help any retired cats who need assistance, since they tend to be in camp. Once a kitten is at least four months old, they can become a trainee. Trainees work under another role to learn that specific trade, but after 4 months old, they'll also work under a trainer. Trainers are responsible for teaching the youth of the clowder how to fight, and the basics of hunting. Every cat in the Hex is taught the basics of surviving on their own.
Builders use the resources available to them to build, expand, and repair the camp. They're responsible for making sure cats have dens to sleep in, a den for the Coven to gather in, and workplace dens. Crafters often share resources with builders, as crafters make things like accessories and tools builders might need. Botanists also tend to work with them, as they gather knowledge on the flora surrounding them and keep gardens in their camps. They often work with builders and crafters to create methods of transporting food and medicinal plants, and to protect them from adverse weather. As such, these roles are also closely tied to the doctors, who need the herbs and sometimes tools to take care of sick and injured cats. They sometimes even need new dens to keep the contagious away from the healthy. Doctors are also responsible for the retired.
Hunters feed the clowder, and as such they are out of camp more than standard members are. Scouts are possibly out even more, as their job is to explore the territory, see what's changed, and sometimes go on missions to find more territory for the clowder.

Why do the Coven pierce ears?
Piercings are symbols of the names a cat has earned in the Hex. Names are power, and so the more powerful a cat, the more names and piercings they'll have. In order to keep cats from being able to claim unearned names, only Coven members are taught this procedure. Not even doctors are fully educated on it, only what to do should an infection come up, and the necessary aftercare.
Every member of the Hex is born with two names, their birth name and their heritage name. Birth names are how they'll be referred to as an individual, and heritage names are their parents' names (biological, when possible, but it's not unheard of to use other names) put together. Their earned names are secret, unless the individual decides to share it.

What's been happening in the Hex?
About two years ago, an outsider by the name of Talon joined the Hex. Powerful and effective, she quickly earned the respect of the Haunts and Coven members alike. Her intelligence quickly earned her a spot on the Coven. When their camp was under attack from dogs that had gotten loose, the previous Bloodbinder ordered they flee - Talon didn't agree. She killed the Bloodbinder in their spat, and with a few equally stubborn cats, scared the dogs off. Her ferocity in this battle made it difficult for any cats to openly disagree with her when she claimed she should be the new Bloodbinder. She was elected into the position swiftly as they cleaned up the camp.
A little less than a year ago, a group of cats tried to rise against her. She made the Hex harsher, crueler - the world doesn't have room for the weak - and they had had enough of this. Some of the key instigators were named Raccoon and Hollow. A ferocious battle broke out in the camp, but in the end, the rebels were either killed or fled. Talon continues to rule with iron claws, but there are still cats who believe in bringing back the more supportive Hex that existed merely two years ago. The rebels are only getting more and more secretive, more and more hidden. Maybe they'll succeed this time.
