"Now, I'm not saying it's the best idea ever... but the way the water's all crazy right now, you're totally gonna get more for your efforts swimming in the high tides! Not like that big baby river by the border! Something, uh.. concentrated!"
Thunderwillow boasted the knowledge like he was the first cat to ever swim during flood times, head lifted in bold assurance as he spoke down to Daisyfire, who he'd caught on her lonesome way down to the water... but no longer! Although the two weren't best friends or anything, he was loathe to leave a clanmate by the shoreline without him, especially during the seasons where the water ran a little more volatile. He didn't know much about the tortie's condition- he wasn't a medic, after all- but Foxlily had explained something complicated about special secret pains and muscle work and water resistance, and most of it had gone entirely over his head, which you wouldn't think would happen with how big his head was and how tall his ears were, but they'd gone right between like a rabbit into it's burrow, and wasn't that just inconvenient! Actually, what was I thinking about? Probably something unnecessary. What he did know, however, was that no matter how talented and frequent a swimmer Daisyfire was, he wasn't about to leave her to go splashing around with a pal to watch her back. And also maybe he also sort of wanted to splash around.
And that was precisely why she was currently trying to convince the chocolate tom that it was a really good idea to go swimming in the flood currents! "Because, like. With how heavy the water is, or fast... you work extra hard to swim in it! So you'll get way more work in way faster! Like carrying two pieces of prey at a time instead of just one!" Then, for extra assurance, she added, "I've only gotten swept away maybe five times, and I always end up shored somewhere safe! Like the lake! And it's way easier to swim out of the lake, compared to the river!"

*οΌβΏβ Daisyfire ββΏοΌ* βI don't think that's really the point Foxlily had with the whole swim idea,β Daisyfire mused, gazing up at Thunderwillow. He wasn't entirely sure what had possessed the golden molly to decide to be a part of her routine swims, but, well - she wasn't going to fight against a cat as friendly and well meaning as Thunderwillow. The whole idea, though... β... I guess we could give it a go, but if I get swept away you're going to have to fish me out.β She said it jokingly, but she meant it at least a little bit. After all, Thunderwillow was so much bigger than her, and he was almost definitely stronger to match. If he'd been able to survive it before, then surely she'd be able to fish her out if need be. It probably wouldn't be necessary, though. Playfully, Daisyfire bumped his shoulder into Thunderwillow's foreleg. βWho knows, though, I swim way more than most cats. Maybe I'll be a better swimmer than you, and I'll have to go get you,β he joked at her, nudging their direction to fit Thunderwillow's chaotic destination choice. Lionshine would have their ears for this, but, well, what Lionshine didn't know wouldn't kill them. She/He + Single + Bi + Ghost

"Hwuh? Get ME?!" Thunderwillow swayed dramatically with the muted force of the warrior's nudge, staggering back to full height with the aghast expression of a cat suddenly determined to prove her worth. Veering back oncourse for the rapids- well, as rapid as the waters could flow with Starclan's grace guiding them to buffer zones- she stomped a little harder in her stride, as if to display the very strength called into question! While there was never shame in accepting help from a clanmate, it'd be a true affront to his pride and honor to be tossed astray in a plan of his own making! As outspoken and bold as Daisyfire was, he was just as much so, and all the more ready to accept a challenge! "No way! I'll swim to the lake and back before I'm weak enough to let the river take me down! I promise- You can count on me!"
In spite of her original recoil, the tabby sprung back easily from the moment of doubt, already grinning toothily towards her clanmate with pure, unstrained excitement. After all, a moment of doubt was just one pawstep away from becoming an opportunity for self display! And there was nothing better than showing her stuff, especially for a cat who was far from easily impressed. Bounding in higher, more sprawling strides, Thunderwillow broke forward to close the distance towards the rushing water as its sound breached her ears. "Almost there, almost there!"

*οΌβΏβ Daisyfire ββΏοΌ* She couldn't help but laugh upon hearing Thunderwillow's boasts. She hadn't meant to antagonize the massive warrior's ego, but, well, it was pretty fun to watch all the same. βIf any cat would take on the river, it'd be you!,β he called as he watched her rushing off. Daisyfire picked up her own pace, but there was no way she was going to dash after Thunderwillow. Not only did Thunderwillow have a much longer leg span, but he was faster and not inhibited by the aching bones that made the whole swimming thing necessary in the first place. It was a race that wouldn't even be worth it. Still, she wasn't entirely given up. A full on dash would aggravate her breathing and legs alike, sure, and make this swimming challenge a death sentence, but being left behind didn't sit well with her either. She rushed after Thunderwillow, pace only quickening as the sound of crashing water grew nearer. An excitement she hadn't anticipated (though most cats who knew her could have predicted due to the competitive nature of it all) motivated her and kept her legs going. βDon't get too far without me! I want to see how you handle it!β She/He + Single + Bi + Ghost

The forest breeze captured Daisyfire's words and carried them to golden ears, tickling Thunderwillow's spirit and lifting her head in swelled pride. That's right! While the river had no hide or hair to speak of, unlike all of Moonclan's tangible enemies, it was an obstacle to overcome regardless! If the past moons had taught him anything, outside of mostly being confused, it was that threats could take many intangible forms! But just because you couldn't kill something didn't mean you couldn't tame it under a powerful paw- He was willing to bet, especially in front of such a strong contender for a fiery equal, that his paws were just the right size and shape to smack a river into place! Maybe, sometime long ago, that was just how rivers were dealt with in the first place!
But there was no time to get stuck in the past! The water awaited in its present form, ready to be wrangled into submission! Thunderwillow's shoulder brushed the edge of the treeline bordering the shore for a mere heartbeat before recoiling, thundering the short distance to circle back towards his clanmate's approaching figure. "WOOHOO! Just ahead now!" She pranced in a wide hook to retread ground, an enthusiastic if unnecessary guide for the shorter cat. "GO GO GO!"

*οΌβΏβ Daisyfire ββΏοΌ* She was finding she really enjoyed Thunderwillow's company. Sure, she got carried away and was loud, but, well, Daisyfire was nothing if not a cat to be carried away with her own emotions. He could only laugh along as Thunderwillow acted as an impromptu guide and personal cheerleader as the pair made the last leg of their sprint into the water's embrace. It didn't take long to get there, and Daisyfire gave in to a sprint once the water was in sight. With a simple leap, she was weightless. Her only competition? The crashing waves of the unruly season. For now, though, she was proving to be capable of resisting their pull. It was sort of strange. The water eased the strain on her limbs while challenging her more than it normally would, having to force through the tide to keep her afloat instead of being able to idle. Weird. Where Thunderwillow had recoiled before, his clanmate darted across the border between forest and rivershore, disappearing into the swells as smoothly as a salmon. How courageous! "Whoa, whoa! Let's go, Daisyfire!" With his cheer still resonating across the water, she didn't wait a moment longer. Like a twoleg's monster gone drastically off-course, the broad tabby lunged for the water just offset from where the other waded, breaking the surface with a thunderous SPLASH! The cold shocked her body slightly, rendering her tense and braced for an already completed impact during his split second below the water- Over in the moment he breached upward, thick fur slicked back to frame a now thinner face as a result. Eyes narrowed in recovery, Thunderwillow spotted her partner swimming just a little ways nearby!
"Talk about a wake-up call! Geez, you can practically feel leafbare travelling upstream! Hehe." Big paws paddling hard beneath the surface, pushing the persistent currents of the volatile waters far below, she observed Daisyfire, now Daisydoused. "How's it feel, huh? You got it?"

*οΌβΏβ Daisyfire ββΏοΌ* She laughed her agreement, making a play of an exaggerated shake - or, as best as she could while swimming. βThe water is always colder than one might expect, for some reason,β she mused. βPretty sure I've got this, though! I'm a strong swimmer, the floods can't take me away even in their full swing.β A bit of a boast that was probably - almost definitely - exaggerated, but Thunderwillow was one of those fun, exaggerated cats. Not like Lionshine or Badgerthistle, who would have comments on the risks of such a boast. βHow about you, not regretting your choices?β He said it playfully, teasing, but watched her curiously. Thunderwillow seemed to be the type who always wanted to prove his might - that was just fine, she was much the same. She/He + Single + Bi + App: Wrenpaw

"Hm, hm!" Thunderwillow enunciated loudly over the sound of the river, rivulets from his ear tufts beginning to drip slow onto his cheeks. It harkened back to her suffix's namesake, forming faux tears of freshwater framed onto an otherwise unperturbed face. With a hearty shake of the head, sopping fur flopping wetly at the motion, she declared the obvious: "I never regret anything! Not even my worst defeats!" A warrior overcomes every obstacle! YEAH! It was good to hear that Daisyfire felt the same, always blazing bright and true to himself even in the face of the great and mighty Pansystar! A clanmate you could rely on through and through. Paws thwapping at the surface of the water suddenly, he pushed a little closer to the tom, making a big show out of surveying the flow of the surrounding waters. "Whatcha think, then? Start swimmin' this ways or that ways, or just keep workin' the waves where we are?"
Neither option was more preferable than the other- When it came to Thunderwillow, she could make the best of just about anything. It was harder to push a warrior of her stature along, even in the worst floods, which made any challenge at least moderately reasonable. "Think you wanna brave worsties? I've got your back no matter what!" The promise was accentuated with a powerful stroke of the forelegs, sending the molly wobbling out of the water a few inches further than even he would have expected. None too eager to start flopping around like a salmon just yet (that's for the lake!), she let herself sink back down to the swells, submerging the ruff of her neck fur so that he remained a golden head adrift in the stream.

*οΌβΏβ Daisyfire ββΏοΌ* Their current situation didn't really lend itself to mulling things over, so Daisyfire made quick work of weighing the choices. βLet's fight the waves for a bit, it'll be more satisfying when we follow them into the calmer water for a break,β she decided, making a brief splash of the water with her tail for emphasis on the challenge of it all. βWe did come here to push our swimming, right? I think that's the best way to do it.β Not a planned strategy by far, but a simple enough decision. They could probably just turn back if things started going badly, anyway. βC'mon!β With that little internal invigoration, he made an exaggerated play of moving forward, eager to show her own ambition to the giant warrior. Maybe this feat wouldn't mean much to the Clan, but it'd sure give the two of them something to be proud of together - that was enough inspiration for Daisyfire. She/He + Single + Bi + App: Wrenpaw

The thwack of Daisyfire's tail against the river sent ripples outwards, immersing Thunderwillow's neck in a new lineup of tiny waves! It heralded his neck decision- he lunged forward into the water in a stilted, sluggish motion that didn't at all suit the force put into the action! "Whew! This is tougher than I thought! But you're right, all the way! We've got this! Just pretend.. it's a hoard of Sunclan invaders!" With another jolt forward that really only put him another inch closer to his desired direction, paddling like a beast at the current, he squinted through the spray he was starting to kick up in order to smack at an offending intruder! Otherwise known as a nearby ripple! "Boom! Pow! Gotcha! Don't give up, Daisyfire!!!"
In her efforts to destroy the barrage of water cats pushing her back, Thunderwillow began swimming in earnest. Long, hard strokes that cut through the water pressure, propelling her still slowly onwards, but progressing nonetheless! Sopping tail flapping at the water behind her, she shot a triumphant glance towards her clanmate, who seemed to have the river down pat! A tiny, scolding voice at the back of her head that sounded suspiciously like her father reminded her that the number one cause of getting washed away if not drowned in the rapids was overwork, exhausting your limbs and leaving you helpless to the violence of the water and all its obstacles. But that was for losers! Besides, this river doesn't have any big, scary rocks in it that I can see!
A slog of water weeds carried astray from their anchor point immediately smacked into Thunderwillow's muzzle. "Phfhfht!!! Peffhht!! Blah!" She said, with considerable dignity. As she spat the fibers from her mouth, she shouted back a warning! "LOOK OUT!! The enemies have trick shots!"

*οΌβΏβ Daisyfire ββΏοΌ* SunClan invaders, huh... As she diligently tried to navigate the challenge the two had imposed on themselves, Daisyfire narrowed her eyes to really put her imagination to work. The blue rushing that seemed all encompassing was easy enough to put into the context of another cat - it was just that that cat was one of their Clanmates. As the waves tugged at her lungs, he couldn't afford to give much of a chuckle, but noted that later he'd have to tell Badgerthistle that they were the same as the rushing river. Dark blue, strong, and persistent. Thunderwillow's warning dragged her out of her thoughts, though not with enough time to react properly before he was the victim of the plants' second wind. The thwack of the plants against her face didn't sound as loud as it felt over the rapid river. A slap placed cleanly against Daisyfire's right eye, briefly disorienting her - giving the river the opportunity to drag her away from the progress she'd made. She/He + Single + Bi + App: Wrenpaw

Everything seemed to happen so quickly! One moment, she was shaking off a wet attack, head bobbling on her broad shoulders to dispel the last of the clinging plant- The next, Daisyfire's presence seemed to fade like an ember's warmth beside her, ebbing off into the waters somewhere. Thunderwillow wasn't always the most attentive clanmate, admittedly.. but when it came to participating in activities like this, out in the wilds, he had a notorious knack for sensing any cat orbiting his vicinity. Something like a radar, but only for things that he already knew were there! Like.. extra whiskers! Or super senses! Or- Well, whatever you'd call them, one thing was certain, and it was that Daisyfire had shifted!
Maybe the ripples of a cat similarly dislodged were also a giveaway.
Turning her head over the churning waters, the molly only had to catch a single glimpse of the tortie's misfortune before all her motions stilled, allowing the river to push her back closer to the other. "WHOA! You got it? Need me to grab ya?" Although he hadn't gone tumbling off into the current, Daisyfire's displacement was imminent if that nasty blindfold stayed glued to his face. Already, without waiting for an answer, the tabby was orienting himself in broad strokes of his tail, working as a rudder to rotate to a position where she could more easily make a snatch for the other cat should things turn foul. Yikes!!
