It'd been a long time coming, the way warriors were slinking about like coyotes in the dusk hours under treacherous tortoiseshell's commands. Turtlefang seemed to have a special grip on Sunclan recently, and while Tinyleaf wasn't one to question the whims of his leader, there was something so personally off-putting about being deterred from the not so secret night patrol that pretty much half the clan knew about at this rate from gossip alone. Only some of that gossip being spread by him! Not all of it! But then, wasn't that just the inevitable nature of things? Hiding secrets from Moonclan was one thing, but secrets within the clan was just no good at all! It was begging for fractured loyalties! So in the end, spreading the word is doing everyone a favor.
That's what Tinyleaf told himself where he milled near the lower branches of the lightly wooded campgrounds, green eyes peeled for the big, bulky warriors he knew would be coming back soon. The more he knew about what was going on, the better it'd be for the good of Sunclan. The better he could help night patrol! Because no matter what Honeyflare said, it was one thing to be excluded- it was another thing to be left out of the loop entirely. A daylight worker could only work so hard without knowing what responsibility he truly bore! It was important, it was crucial, to know what duties night patrol was covering that Tinyleaf couldn't. So he'd know where to pick up the slack! And there was no better cat to talk to than one of those big twins. Wildspring was too close to Rabbitstar, Turtlefang was Turtlefang, and Tinyleaf didn't really know how to talk to a medicine cat like Sloeflame... Not to mention, Tortoisepaw was just a baby! No, the only answer was to chat with the twins, even if just one of them. Then everyone could walk away satiated, no harm done!
Fate seemed to bring a candidate straight to him. From his view on high, Tinyleaf immediately recognized the chipped ears of Iceglow; They didn't know each other all that well, and quite frankly, there was a reason for that. It was a reason he didn't have time to acknowledge right now, even as it warmed his pelt a touch as he braced himself to engage. Focus! This is more important!
Like a falcon from the mountains, the smaller ginger dropped down from his branch, landing abrupt and sudden a few tail lengths from the other tom's red flank. "Good evening, Iceglow!" Chirping brightly, as if he hadn't just swooped in, he lifted his tail in greeting. "I hope you slept well this morning! Staying up all night seems pretty tiring, huh?"

▼△▼ Iceglow ▼△▼ Having heard rustling in the trees and having caught the scent of a rarely spoken to Clanmate, Iceglow didn't flinch as Tinyleaf descended with the suddenness of snapping jaws. “Trees are cheating, y'know,” he teased, waving his tail in casual return of the greeting. What was he up to? They didn't talk to Tinyleaf much, so this... confrontation...? was strange. A lot of variables for the unexpected. Still, though, there was a hint. The bright chirping about their unique schedule. Well, we don't need to be a fox-length away for this. Approaching casually, shortening their distance to about half a tail-length, Iceglow sat with the nonchalance of a cat with nowhere to be. “Can't say it is, personally. Maybe for the other cats, but I've spent plenty of late nights out and about in my life. What brings you down here so suddenly, though?” With a flick of his tail up towards the branches above, he tilted his head. “I imagine all the squirrels and birds are up there around now, right? Though, I'm flattered you'd take a break from them just to check on me.”Not like he really cared if Tinyleaf learned about the night patrol. It was already obvious to their Clanmates who watched the group sleep in in the mornings and leave camp at night - who wouldn't notice? It was more fun, though, to pretend he didn't know what Tinyleaf wanted. He liked the theatrics of it, though, the dropping in from above when he could've just as easily waited on ground level and made it seem so much more casual. “... that drop didn't hurt your paws or anything? You must do that a lot.” He/They + Single + Gay + Apprentice: Tortoisepaw + nat 20 moments

Easily distracted, the mere mention of a passing squirrel cast the smaller tom's gaze straight back up into the canopy, mirroring the green overhead as he took a pause to scan for motion. With nothing but the telltale sway of the wind through the branches, he promptly returned his focus to Iceglow- who hadn't escaped in his moment of weakness! Well, of course not! He's one of our best warriors, Tinyleaf thought to himself, disregarding the easy fact that he'd call just about anybody Sunclan's best warrior. It was hardly a competition when Sunclan itself was, well. The best! Delighted to have successfully captured his clanmate's momentary attention, he just barely held in a hop of celebration, though a quiver ran through his tail where it still held high and happy behind him. Electing to remain standing for the time being (since that felt more official), he turned over a paw to look down at the pink pad in only partial interest. "Oh, I'm not hurt at all!" It'd take a lot more than a fall to keep him off his toes. Moons of reckless tumbling had toughened him into a sturdy stunt performer. Bruises, do your worst! "It's nice of you to check, though..."
Returning his paw to its rightful place, he blinked back towards Iceglow, tall and composed and infamous for his smooth talking. Tinyleaf wasn't half as grounded, and he hoped that wouldn't betray him in their exchange... Oh, right! The exchange! Maybe sticking that impressive landing would give him an advantage towards earning the other cat's report. After all, a strong warrior was one worth reporting to! With the slight, fumbling tone of a cat trying to regain their opening, he replied to the immediate inquiry. "Well, um- I've actually been wanting to talk to you! I saw you passing and thought the birds could use a break!" Tactfully avoiding the word squirrel, (it'd be embarrassing if his stomach rumbled right now), he advanced a step, neck inclining just a degree more in the process of straining the gap that allowed them some semblance of eye level conversation. While he'd planned to keep things subtle for deniability, it was hard not to let sincerity overtake him as his voice shifted to a hopeful, probing mew. "You're part of a new project, right? I might not be involved, but I've noticed the den's emptier at night. Is everything alright? Pulling warriors out so late must mean you're handling important business." Ideally, it wouldn't be dire business. While basically everyone already knew about the formation of a night patrol, the details were still foggy, and it was the details that mattered when it came to why this and why now and why you.

▼△▼ Iceglow ▼△▼ Well that didn't last long. With some brief analysis of the little cat in front of him, Iceglow put a little thought into his next words. “Not any more important than the other three patrols,” he answered casually. It was true, in the end. Sure, it served to quell Rabbitstar's anxieties, but who was to say the other patrols weren't born of a similar purpose? Had two patrols really been so insufficient back then that they needed one at noon, when the sun was at its cruelest? May as well have one at night, then, right? ... hm. He supposed maybe Tinyleaf wasn't certain that it was a patrol, just that they were out at night. Leaning forward slightly to ease the looking up Tinyleaf had to do, and to add a conspiratorial energy, Iceglow smirked with a wink. “Hey, maybe if Turtlefang gives me a break one of these nights, I can take you around. Nothing in the rules against being out at night, right? What do you say, Tines? Want a taste of the night patrol life?” Nicknames came easily to Iceglow for whom identity had always been tricky business. Well... for other reasons, too, maybe. He leaned back away, still watching Tinyleaf playfully. “I know you get pretty busy being a good warrior, though, I won't be offended if you say no. Just know the offer will always stand - unless Turtlefang asks. I'm in enough hot water with him, if he asks, the offer never existed.”Not like he cared what Turtlefang thought, it was just more convenient to not make the only patrol leader too mad. Besides, Tinyleaf seemed like he could be... fun. He/They + Single + Gay + Apprentice: Tortoisepaw

The name didn't click at first; Not when Tinyleaf had never had a nickname before, not since his time in the nursery. It made processing this one all the sweeter. In the visible moment where he realized who Tines was, he couldn't help his whiskers bristling out at the shock of such immediate hospitality! "Me? You'd go out with me?" It almost seemed too good to be true! Here he'd dropped down hoping to get a full report, only to be offered a full fledged tag-along! Following the tension in his muzzle, his pelt followed suit, bushing out excitedly as if to rival Iceglow in broadness- a losing battle, even still. Staring wide and excited up at the hovering tom, Tinyleaf's paws jittered beneath him, a short dance of anticipation. "Would you really? Well, that's just.. It's fantastic! I-I've been wanting to see for a while! But, Turtlefang said I'm not allowed, so- Well, that doesn't matter. We should! I would! Um- When?"Already, the thrill of the proposition had begun to fade, replaced by the unmovable sense of duty that guided the warrior's every pawstep. After all, if he were so good a warrior that even a cat like Iceglow could take notice, then that was a firm enough reminder of what priorities came first. But, I'm sure it'd be no trouble... I could just do everything all in one day! If he got up early, skipped a chat with Fawnheart, and maybe ate the night before so as to not waste time dining in camp, then that'd open up the whole evening! Ah, but- "Oh. Turtlefang can be really sneaky, though, so I wouldn't want to get you in trouble..." As if summoning the tortie himself, Tinyleaf glanced sharply around the forest cover, already half expecting his brother to pop out and give them both an earful for making plans off-schedule... But he's the one who had a secret first! Surely one little outing could be justified. Especially because he'd make use of that time to be extra helpful!
..Except, being extra helpful wouldn't keep his guide uninvolved, especially if he were already also on the patrol leader's bad side. Fretting to himself, Tinyleaf's wild oscillations between enthusiasm and worry manifested in the hard lash of his tail, as violent as the waves crashing in his own head with every ebb and flow. Iceglow's being so generous, I'd hate to cause him problems.

▼△▼ Iceglow ▼△▼ Go out with him? Observing the little cat before him, Iceglow concluded that yeah, sure, that could be fun. He just had to wade through the flurry concerns presented to him for a bit. Gently swiping at Tinyleaf's shoulder with an orange paw, Iceglow grinned his mischief. “Relax Tines, he's not even deputy. Worst he can do is ask to take me off the official patrol. Even if he gets his wish, I'll still be out at night and I'll be able to do whatever I want. No real losing there.” There. Who cared about trouble? Especially not so low a trouble as this. As for when, though... “Tell you what, let's do it tomorrow night. Don't worry about the details, I'll get it all sorted out. I'll even try to keep it short enough to keep you from getting all worn out the next day.” Yeah, that sounded like a plan. With a sly wink, he added, “sound good?”Crow might have his ears for ditching her, but, well, it'd give her an excuse to hang out with Tortoisepaw. Maybe. If he didn't tell them to pretend to be sick or something... Crowflame was already in the habit of pretending they were her apprentice. Hm. He/They + Single + Gay + Apprentice: Tortoisepaw

The reassurances shouldn't have been enough to halt his worries, but the wink certainly was. Brain stuttering to an immediate stop, it seemed like Tinyleaf no longer needed the shredder in his head to tear all his doubts to shreds. Iceglow seemed to have a mystical power all their own, erupting all mental processes into a haze of bubbles! Well. He does seem very sure of himself, he concluded, blinking slow at the bigger cat's blue eyes, now both configured post-wink. "Tomorrow..." It still felt a little itchy to the back of his head, but how was he to argue with a cat who seemed to have everything under control? In fact, who was he to argue ever, period? This was his clanmate! If he could trust anyone's word, it was the big, brave Iceglow's.
"Um- Yes!" Awakening from his momentary daze, his tail swished in shy affirmation, stirring the leaffall beneath it in a flurry of brown movement. With his orange fur in the mix, it could almost be mistaken for mid-autumn already. Distantly, Tinyleaf wondered if the two of them might stand out in the darkness, all white and ginger and bright the way they were. But- "I guess you've got it all figured out!" A smaller smile reforming on his expression, the little tabby made a play swipe back at Iceglow, parroting the prior motion as the best failsafe he had under his pelt for friendly interaction. "I'll hold you to it, so don't get in trouble. Or else!" Despite the attempt at jest, even his staged threat seemed to lack the capacity for the performative, exaggerated tone most sarcasm usually came with, like copying a dialogue you didn't entirely understand outside of basic recitation. Like all things Tinyleaf, it was a cheerful declaration, without even a hint of irony to inhibit it!

💀🔥💀🔥💀🔥💀
Crowflame slunk out of camp, keeping her eyes and ears open. It seemed the worst had finally happened…she was bored. She was bored and she was lacking the one thing that would sure-fire cure the feeling. When she found him, she was going to swat his ears. Well, what was left of them.
Xeir ears pricked at the sound of voices, real ones this time, pausing to listen for a moment. Xe couldn't quite make out exact words yet but- yep, there was xeir brother. Probably.
Approaching un-subtly, he caught sight of the offending twin, alongside…someone small. Little. Positively t- Tinyleaf! He mentally patted himself on the back for the quick deduction. His brother was talking to Tinyleaf.
…Their brother was talking to Tinyleaf? Crowflame attempted to briefly consider the why of the situation, but it seemed too late. Their particularly long legs had already carried them to their destination. They had to say something.
“Ah, Iceglow, Tinyleaf.” She mewed rather awkwardly, as if she hadn’t quite planned on speaking at that exact second. The thought from mere seconds ago re-entered her mind, and all was suddenly clear. “I was looking for you, Iceglow.” She mewed conversationally, confident. “You two seem rather…chummy.” She smirked, glad to have the opportunity for some fun dropped into her paws. She approached casually, turning towards Tinyleaf. She seemed stuck between the urge to loom over the cat and the urge to be nose to nose, that she instead was hunched, staring intently. “What are your intentions with my brother?”

"Huh?"
That got his attention. Tinyleaf had been so preoccupied with Iceglow that his senses had entirely skimmed the warning signs of Crowflame's approach. In retrospect, it should've been obvious. The two were rarely parted for long, just like him and Fawnheart, and there'd been shifting of grass, the scent of a clanmate in the wind- he'd almost marked it all up to lingering signs, nothing more than remnants of the morning patrols. But that'd been foolish! What's with that, being so distracted? The poor guy couldn't help but jump a little at xeir emergence into the conversation, even as slow and casual as it was. Blinking vacantly at the molly, a greeting died on the warrior's tongue as key words and their implications danced like fireflies in his brain, dimming intermittently with every glow of understanding as his mind fizzled out. Not wanting to overthink. But overthinking anyway!
With the pleasant yet uncertain expression of a cat still catching up, he stood frozen, that absent smile still tentatively pasted over his face like a haphazard fail-safe. Brow furrowed so, so, so slightly as to not detract from his definitely unbothered reaction. Processing. Before. "Chummy!" His voice burst out a little too loud, a nervous laugh already overtaking him. "Well, that's!" Tinyleaf nonchalantly shuffled back from the yellow glow of eyes on him, but more significantly, opened a wider berth between him and the brother in question. Pointedly! A strange heat seemed to fill his ears with cotton, muffling the environment and boosting the sound of his pulse in his awareness. Suddenly, he couldn't help but remember his initial hesitance to jump down to meet Iceglow again, and the exact reasoning behind it that particular cats had noticed- or maybe not? Maybe it was a joke? It was kind of hard to tell when Crowflame was joking, honestly. With that same awkwardly placed smile, a wild edge beginning to set in, Tinyleaf went on rambling a good several words ahead of his thought process. "I was just out here to look for- Well, I was trying to figure some things out, and what do you know, there goes Iceglow! So, I came down to meet him, and then- I guess it looked pretty chummy, huh? But that's just how nice he is! Um. So my intentions were actually entirely.. incidental! We were just having a passing conversation, right? Nothing complicated! Or- I mean-" With a glance towards the pointed ginger for affirmation, he stuttered to a halt with a final conclusion, tail puffed and lashing against the backs of his hind paws. Reboot. "It's always nice to spend time with my clanmates!" With how brightly he finished, Tinyleaf could almost be confused for someone who hadn't spent the last few seconds panicking for an excuse up until realizing he didn't need one. He realized it himself, the way his green eyes dropped to the ground, studying the grass below paw with the intensity of a new scholar.

▼△▼ Iceglow ▼△▼ “Everyone's always looking for me, Fades, you just have to keep up,” he teased with a nonchalant sweep of his paw. With amusement, he observed Tinyleaf's floundering. You just asked me out and all of the sudden it's passing conversation? “We were just talking about night patrol and how normal it is. Speaking of it, though, it's a good thing you showed up. You're going to have to be on your very best behavior tomorrow night, I won't be there to pick up your slack.” Not that Crowflame really needed it, but what was the point of sharing a duty with your littermate if you couldn't even tease her about it? He cast another wink in Tinyleaf's direction, smirking the mischievous implications before turning his gaze to Crowflame again. “What about you, huh? You have any interesting plans you're working on?” He/They + Single + Gay + Apprentice: Tortoisepaw

💀🔥💀🔥💀🔥💀
Crowflame smirked at the cat as she was bombarded with his ramblings. “Slow down!” She said, sounding as good-natured as she could. “Your words could catch rabbits.”
Rolling his eyes at Iceglow’s comments, he flicked his tail dismissively. “Please, it’s you who suffers when I’m not around, we both know this.” He said playfully.
As xeir brother directed a question at Tinyleaf, xe noticed the small cat’s attention being on neither of the larger cats, but instead on the grass below his paws. Must be nervous, xe concluded. Unless the tiny cat was onto something, and there truly was something deeply interesting within the blades. Xe opted to believe the latter, now focusing entirely on the grass with similar intensity.

As the twins began to speak, clearing the air of the weight of Crowflame's abrupt introduction and even more abrupt accusation, Tinyleaf was content to fade into the background as easily as his sibling might. For once, watching the grass shift in soft sounds beneath the multicolor of his rocking toes, he didn't feel his usual restlessness. Instead, swaying the balance of his paw around and watching the ground mold underfoot, he felt much cozier than he did trying to stammer up explanations that, in retrospect, hadn't been required of him in the first place. His ears burned hot at the thought, as if the orange fur had suddenly taken on a blaze to match their hue- hotter when he felt Iceglow's attention just shy of the wink that sent him right back to his laser focus on the blades below.
Whatever the plans at play between the bigger warriors, Tinyleaf elected to stay silent, focusing on little more than the contours of the voices beside him as the words unraveled into meaningless garbling. Ah.. not meaningless. His nose scrunched slightly in self-critique. Nothing my clanmates say is meaningless! They're such good warriors, after all, that's why they were chosen instead of me. What was he doing acting so ditsy when there was so much to learn from the tabbies accompanying him? As fun as it could be to play around with the warm, exciting feelings that cats like Iceglow tended to elicit from him, if it went so far to become a distraction, then... Well, that was just no good for anyone!
Although a trace of shyness still slowed his motions, he made a point to peek up from the ground, eyes flitting between the warriors with the curiosity of a new apprentice. There was nothing more important than being present in the moment! It was a duty he performed twice over, accommodating for Fawnheart's disinterest in regular clan affairs, and one he was proud to maintain. Another double wouldn't kill him. After all, anything he learned from these two would be valuable to his twin as well. Valuable for storytime! (Not gossip, never gossip!)
