Snakepaw sat restlessly in the camp, glancing around every so often. She missed the high grass of the meadow already, and she had only been back from training for an hour or so.
She was already debating leaving camp on her own again - even knowing the dangers and the new rules, she couldn’t care less if it meant getting to stalk through the meadow again. She enjoyed the feeling - stalking something unseen, searching for the scent of prey like a snake might, cutting through the grass with ease.
She scratched at the back of her ear with a huff before getting to her feet, deciding to stalk out of camp, hoping that she’d go unnoticed. |

- + - Brookshine - + - An anxious jolt coursed through Brookshine as she watched Snakepaw’s escape. Ohhh, Rabbitstar wouldn’t like this- as discreetly as possible, they rushed after the apprentice. Maybe she was just going to be in close range of the camp, but just in case… “Mind if I join you?,” she asked silently, cautiously, as she neared the apprentice. “You’ll get in a lot less trouble with another cat around.” It didn’t seem like anyone with authority had noticed yet, but she wasn’t going to take any chances. She made a brief mental note about not being built for espionage. Still, they’d decided that put their neck on the line and they weren’t going to back down now - especially not when no one had actually… said anything. Relax, you’re a warrior now! |

Snakepaw stood a moment, staring up at the warrior. Really? This was who was going to be following her around? So be it, if it meant other cats would be less suspect. Brookshine would have to prove herself, she decided.
”Oh, not at all.” She mewed, making her way further out towards the meadow, “if, of course, you can keep up.” She playfully snickered, easily slipping between the tall blades of grass, making her way towards her favorite hunting spot.
Her gait was strange, given she only had three legs to properly put pressure on, but she had learned to adapt over the years and could run as well as any other apprentice, if not better in some cases. |

- + - Brookshine - + - With a stifled scoff of frustration, Brookshine bounded after Serpentpaw. If they could keep up? Was she not aware of how much more trouble she'd be in if she was caught alone? A familiar frustration of concern. Still, she wasn't going to be put off by an apprentice with a little extra energy or a little extra snark. She'd shared a den with Lightmist their whole lives, and with Beestar's kits for most of that same time. To say the least, she'd been around some big personalities. Strong personalities. Challenging personalities. Staying alert, they kept as keen an eye as possible on the apprentice as they tried to meet the parameters of the challenge. “So, just what's the plan for being out here, anyway?,” they called. |

"Camp's too cramped these days! If I don't find a proper way to let all of this energy out I just might tear my pelt out." Snakepaw laughed, "it's difficult to find a proper playmate when you've got a bad paw, you know? A lot of you really don't know how to deal with it, and it shows."
She covered her tone in a thick coat of playfulness to avoid the irritated bite that last statement might've carried with it otherwise. No, she was here to put the skills Hushstep had taught her to good use, and there was no time to get distracted with the woes of being the only physically disabled apprentice.
After a quick sniff at the air, smelling nothing but the cat behind her, she ventured further into the grass, delighting in how it brushed against her sides.

- + - Brookshine - + - With Snakepaw's words came another worried twitch of Brookshine's fallen ears. “Well, I could certainly try,” she offered, trying to keep her pelt from prickling at the sensation of grass. “So we're just going to run? If you want to spar or hunt, I'd be glad to indulge you.” Not like it was far from the days of Brookshine's own apprenticeship, but it was clear to them that they and Snakepaw were very different personalities. The two had hardly shared a den for a moon, and with such radically different stages in their apprenticeship, it's not like they had spent much time together. All to say, Brookshine wasn't sure just what constituted fun for Snakepaw. Ah. “Oh-! I'll gladly just run, too, if that's what you want.” They were grateful for their youth. This little interaction made them feel that they might not be a good fit for mentorship, at least not yet. Leafkit's play-training had been easy enough, but... well, in the end, Brookshine was still the shrinking violet of their family. |
