Leafkit was in a rather curious and playful mood than what was normal for him, they wanted to be out and about and enjoy the camp. He was four moons now and was eager for the two moons to pass so that he could become an apprentice, they began to think about the cats that could become their mentor so many were an option and by than he was sure that the two in the medicine cat den would be healed enough should they not? He had stopped completely paying attention to his surroundings as he was to far in his thoughts when suddenly his body collided with solid fur making him bounce back a little as he sat down to blink away the haze that had clouded his vision a mix of black, orange and brown filled his vision it seemed he had bumped into a warrior which he hoped he wouldn't get in trouble for. They lifted their gaze as they tried to see who it was not that he could be certain anyway he didn't exactly know a whole lot of them. "Uh, uhm, I'm sorry I should have payed attention." he meowed softly.

It was a regular day in Sunclan, which meant it was a boring one with very little to do. Too many cats were so eager to garner Rabbitstar's favor, all bright eyed and bushy-tailed for the nearest patrol, and while Turtlefang wasn't one to pursue labor, it did leave him awfully empty-pawed. It'd be better when the colder seasons came around and started discouraging everyone with less successful hunts, maybe even a few good snowstorms to dampen the spirit. If nothing else, the stress was more stimulating than sitting around doing nothing- Thump. For his credit, he didn't whip around and death stare whoever had deigned to throw something small and furry at him. He was quick to assume it was one of his brothers trying to get a rise out of him, and Turtlefang was nothing if not committed to depriving them the pleasure of his reaction. When he did turn, it was slowly. Notch by notch, with intention. Only.. there wasn't anyone stifling giggles nearby, waiting to laugh at him for not dodging an attack he quite literally had no reason to anticipate dead in the center of camp. So funny. No, instead.. if it wasn't a piece of prey or some other fuzzy projectile, what had bounced off his back? The question was answered as a small voice made itself known somewhere very far below. The warrior's eyes dropped, sharpness eroding away into measured neutrality as he stared down at... the kitten. Oh, Starclan, not this. Although he wasn't necessarily against the company of kits, they generally didn't seem to click well with one another. Not the way other warriors seemed to play around so easily with the clan's youth, like they could harken back to their own kithoods as instinctively as breathing. For Turtlefang, that ease of mind was a privilege, not an ingrained skill. It made random encounters like this all the more stressful, and he could only numb his expression so that he didn't send the poor thing running off from him for having bumped his back. "..It's... fine." The response was slower than it really needed to be, delayed by the sluggish crawl of his mind to begin formulating the immediate steps two, three, and four required to deal with this interaction. Idly, he peeked around for any sign of a nearby queen, but to no avail. Probably because he didn't know who this kit was, or who their parent was. It wasn't personal- it was just hard to make young cats his business before they were even old enough to organically interact with him. He didn't seek out kitsitting, and kits didn't seek him out, so he generally resigned himself not to knowing most kittens until they were in line for apprenticeship. And now, it'd come back to bite him. Turtlefang pondered the ethics of carrying a cat he didn't know back to the nursery at risk of getting clawed by an offended mother, or worse, making a child cry. "..Are you lost?" There's no way someone can get lost in their own camp, you fool. Right? Or.
Actually, maybe they could? Did that make this his responsibility?

Leafkit look slightly puzzled lost no of course not he had been about the camp enough that he knew where pretty much everything was how could he be lost though the warrior's reaction was nicer than Leakit had expected the young tom couldn't help but think that the warrior was almost... confused at what to do. Leafkit lifted his front paws stomping them back to the ground together in a silly thing he occasionally did to see other's reactions "No I'm alright thank you. I was just paying more attention to the ground and myself than I was to what lay ahead of me." he meowed carefully thinking about an explanation that might make sense but honestly that was it he had truly not been paying attention and it was his own fault for padding into someone for it. "I, I'm not familiar with you," he stated as he actually wanted to know who he had walked into kind of feeling obligated to know which cat hadn't batted his ears for disturbing them.
Though right now it did not seem like this warrior was busy Leafkit just assumed it was because they waiting on others like some of them did, why else would a warrior be alone in a spot right? well, maybe he was down and wanted a friend though Leafkit didn't think he would appreciate a kit trying to fill that spot. He tilted his head to look at the cat before him more the colours of the toms pelt interested him. His own was so different from what he could see of it, then again not many cats looked alike even his siblings looked different in other ways though their colours could be similar. The warrior's pelt looked soft making Leafkit want to reach out and feel it but he minded his manners and just looked at the warrior softly.

Turtlefang listened carefully to the small voice, the vacancy of his stare hardly filling as he was given more context. If this cat weren't lost.. then that just about ended things, didn't it? But still, the kitten looked up at him without any indication of wanting to toddle off to back wherever he'd come from. Hmm.. Once more, the tortie gave a cursory glance at the surroundings, but no cat seemed to be watching him and the kit's encounter. Guess it's all me. Tail curling awkwardly, he indulged the other's curiosity- after all, the unfamiliarity was mutual. "I'm Turtlefang.. I don't think we've met." Then, breaking eye contact as he began to grow self conscious of the ongoing attention, he murmured, "Is the ground all that interesting? You'll want to be more cautious when you're apprenticed."
Regardless of the light critique, his tone was reserved, as if reciting an archived line. It lacked true apprehension, serving more as an obligatory acknowledgement than any actual chiding. After all, it was hardly his place to comment on some other cat's child, and one who had yet to be properly initiated into warriorhood. For a moment, he almost seemed lost in the sentiment, a furrow forming on his face as he thought back to the last he'd heard the advice. How long ago had it been, now? To have remembered it so easily... Ah. He came back to himself shortly, grounded by the feeling of the kit's honey eyes still fixed on his figure. Blinking warily, Turtlefang's tail coiled a little tighter at its dark tip. "Are you allowed to be out by yourself?" It was probably best to cover all precautions while he was stuck in the center of things.

Leafkit shrugged the ground could be interesting depending on where it was and if it held something else but the ground in camp mainly stayed the same so it truly held no interest for the young tom. "I'm Leafkit, the grounds actually not that interesting but I wasn't really paying attention. I guess when I become an apprentice I'll have more things to focus on so I don't see a problem with not focusing right now." he frowned slightly as he thought about it more so older cats couldn't lose focus it must be hard trying to get some peace if they always had to give something their focus no wonder some of them looked unhappy maybe? He questioned things before once more answering the warrior question "Oh, yes I got permission from my mom Rookbriar to be out I was being to restless for my siblings and the younger kits, so long as I stayed in camp and didn't get under paw I was allowed to roam. I guess in a way I got under fur." the kit chuckled at his own small joke.
"Next moon, I'll become an apprentice then it seems I won't have the time to get under paw." he meowed his ear twitched as he looked back to Turtlefang once more once he scanned the camp to see who else was about but it seemed no one was really paying attention but that was okay, he hadn't been asked to go away and find something else to do yet and so he assumed it was alright to be speaking with the other tom.

Chattery little thing. Turtlefang's gaze narrowed a notch as he considered him once more, this small tabby with more words than should fit in his half grown body. And being Rookbriar's kit, no less... It wasn't a clanmate he knew very well, but that was seldom the case. All the same, he wasn't sure he'd ever heard the queen speak so rationally about much of anything the few times he'd shared a patrol with her. With such a scattered mother, it was a wonder where Leafkit had inherited such serious contemplations in the first place. Was I like that? Are kits supposed to be like that?
"Sounds like you've got it all figured out," was the response that came out of his mouth instead, noncommittal as it was resigned to his fate as the other's supervisor. After all, now that he'd pinned exactly where this... small, strange child had come from, he knew for certain that his caregiver was nowhere to be found, at least not out and about. Even worse, Leafkit was out on good faith, and that meant there was no banishing him to whence he'd came. Instead, Turtlefang tilted an indulging ear towards the other, although his eyes remained offset as a means to buffer any mistaken interpretations from what would inevitably his uncertain gaze. "Are you excited to be apprenticed?" It felt like a shallow question, because of course he was, all kits were. But small-talk served a purpose like any other conversational piece- to open a window. "I'm sure you won't have the time to feel restless once you're running on a training schedule, after all."

Leafkit regarded Turtlefang for a moment eyes widening slightly as he pondered the question was he truly excited to become an apprentice? this happened for all cats in the clan did it not? it was a different time in his life so he supposed that it should be exciting though everything really was going to be new to him as an apprentice he was still thoughtful on what being older would actually bring "No I don't think I will have the time so long as my mentor has plans for me." he stopped for a moment to think wondering if maybe what had come to mind might be just a little to much for the warrior right away but he was wondering if Turtlefang would mind occasionally bringing him out when his mentor had made no plans for him. In this short interaction the young tom had come to like him and was eager to possibly learn from them he wondered if there truly was no harm in asking things.. like of course there were correct times to ask things like you wouldn't want to be in the middle of something important and be asking questions... though what was important to him.... that was besides the point and it certainly didn't interest him to think further on it. "Turtlefang, I was wondering if maybe.. sometime when and if my mentor has days with no plans if you would take me out?" he asked.

Me? The silent inquiry echoed hollow in his head, which had suddenly emptied with the shock of such a bold approach, and from a kit no less. Turtlefang couldn't help himself; Where he'd previously been looking away, not wanting to frighten any young cats with what Fawnheart called his intensity, he now snapped to attention, eyes pinned to Leafkit as if targeting a particularly puzzling set of tracks amidst a hunt. A clue of some sort, an indication he couldn't unravel. This is a child. It's not that deep. But.. Why him, of all cats, and not the other's mother? Not Fawnheart, nor whomever was on track to mentor the little cat, but him? Quite frankly, it didn't make sense, given the nature of what was presently their first real meeting.
..But maybe that was the entire idea. Kits, he considered, stare fuzzing somewhat, do not engage in social complexities. They haven't yet learned them. Young and impulsive, Leafkit could ask just about any adult they happened across to play escort. Well, there we go. Just like that, it wasn't so scary, now was it? Feeling foolish to have been stunned in the first place, rendered off-guard by an opponent a quarter his size, the lanky warrior had the gall after everything to play it coy, tail flicking with practiced idling. "Well.. I suppose I wouldn't mind," He finally replied, casual and uncomplicated as if he hadn't spent his first heartbeat analyzing the request like an omen from the stars. "You'll be old enough, after all. Might I ask.. what you're so interested in seeing that your own mentor couldn't suffice?"

Leafkit shrugged "It's not so much about seeing something then gaining more by getting another warrior to also show things to me. The more I'm shown the more I'll know right?" he questioned.
"I figured every warrior has a different story so they should have different experiences and how they do things." the young tom went on not sure why he had to explain fully but at least Turtlefang was speaking with him something about that made him happy as he had not seen the tom around the nursery or even the apprentices did he not like them? could that have been why he had been somewhat startled when he had approached him? or was it that he just wasn't used to being around them... these thoughts swirled in the young toms mind wondering what could possibly be the answer. When he looked at Turtlefang he noticed the tom was fully facing him seemingly having debated how to reply to him when he requested him to accompany him at times out of the camp when he became of age to do so.
"Did I shock you?" he asked lightly wonderment shining in his eyes.

"Shock me?" This time, the reply was instant, torn from his maw as if the question itself were the shock, rather than any of the explanation preceding it. And in a way, it was. Who was this.. this small child, doubting his composure? And why was it working? Feeling a bit ruffled at the question, Turtlefang feigned nonchalance once more, tilting his head up to squint at the clouds overhead. Sure, the kid was quick-witted, especially thinking about things so deeply. Compared to Stemkit, well. What was actually shocking was how exactly Rookbriar was rearing her offspring, for them all to sprout up so differently. Not at all like another leaf he knew. Unable to meet those bright eyes, aimed on him(??) of all cats.. "I wouldn't say that... But, ah."
Shifting where he was positioned so that he could wrap his dark tail forward, wrapping neat over matching paws as he found his way back onto his haunches. Since the conversation was still going, anyway. Easily, he redirected the flow of topic, back towards Leafkit. Always safer to play on defense. "I'm sure Sunclan would be more than willing to nurture your perspective. In times like these, a little curiosity goes a long way, hm?"
