TORTOISEPAW SunClan Apprentice + They/Them + 6 moons "SPEECH" VIOLENCE
Tortoisepaw made a sharp step to the right, moving jn the opposite direction of Iceglow. They weren't doing great at this who "getting closer" thing but at least they were mildly hidden. Checking the dirt under them with their claws, they found the loamy soil perfect for what they needed. The apprentice scooped up a small pile quietly and placed it there for a while. Being as silent as they could, they padded more right before digging up the soil again and wadding it into a ball. They placed it down and lined it up to be thrown just past Iceglow's head to *hopefully* distract him enough for Tortoisepaw to make a break for them. --they roll a 15-- With a kick, the ball of dirt goes whizzing at the mentor, barely missing their scarred ears.

▼△▼ Iceglow ▼△▼ His ears twitch with the sensation of something flying past them, prompting him into a ready position as he recoiled to observe the now fallen… thing. They were almost confused, seeing it was just… dirt. A broken ball of dirt. Huh? Oh. Ohhh, okay. So Tortoisepaw wanted to play, huh? Iceglow was more than willing to play. That was critical time lost to investigating the compacted dirt, though, Tortoisepaw’s position could be that much harder to pinpoint now. While admittedly a little bold for a stealth maneuver as it let another cat know there was someone there to begin with, in this specific scenario it was effective. He’d save the tip for later, though. He didn’t want to risk the wobble in Tortoisepaw’s ego, especially not right now. After all, the hunt was ongoing, wasn’t it? Previously content to have played the part of prey (okay, well, it’d been boring but he was still going to do it), an attack could only mean one thing: Iceglow was no longer a sensitive-eared rabbit. They were now a keen enemy cat. He slunk into a hunting position. “Careful Torts, I’m comin’ for ya,” he called, an omen-like playfulness hanging on his words. Now to just find the kid. TORTOISEPAW SunClan Apprentice + They/Them + 6 moons "SPEECH" VIOLENCE
The tortoiseshell apprentice was a bit surprised at how the exchange went. Any sort of upper hand of running at the cat while distracted, as well as their sense of knowing what to do, trickled away like a Beetle scurrying out of the way of a leader's thunderous paws. After all, Iceglow was basically a fabled leader of old in size and strength compared to the miniscule jack. An intense feeling of worry wormed it's way in and replaced their former sure-footedness.
They groaned silently and focused in, trying to figure out exactly what to do. Being hunted was entirely different than hunting something, and definitely a thing the pair had never practiced before. Their best option right now was to keep their sights and senses on where to hide and their mentor. The log briefly reentered their mind but was brushed away quickly. Too obvious. But maybe... They immediately set out their brain for the hole they had fallen into earlier. It was deep enough for them to hide in, and the coarse sandy soil matched the coloring of their pelt, sorta. I'd be backed into the hole with no escape route though... The difficult decision frustrated Tortoisepaw to no end. With a last second of thought, and a quick hopeful prayer to the Star Cats, they began sneaking over to the hole. Confident this was the right choice, they avoided any prickers and stones, spending precious time not making any sound.

▼△▼ Iceglow ▼△▼ “C'mon, Torts, all you gotta do is land a pounce on me. Don't have to knock me down or make an effective hit this time, just have to prove you can get to that point,” Iceglow coaxed, moving slowly and methodically through the grass as he tried to pick up where his apprentice's scent was strongest. “I won't even count it as a win for myself unless I can get you pinned - if you can escape my pounce, you're still in the game.” The original rules, of course, hadn't included what to do if Iceglow pounced them - he hadn't been planning to take on the offensive. All Tortoisepaw had had to do originally was sneak up on him and successfully pounce. Unfortunately, the playful nature of Iceglow had kicked in. He'd been initiated his own challenge, hadn't he? He neared one of the stronger Tortoise-scented spots, finding it... shockingly empty. Huh? No way, they wouldn't-... Well. That was exactly what he'd want an enemy to think, wasn't it? Clever. Well, Iceglow was capable of plans, too. He calculated, creeping around the hole - but not enough so that it was in sight - and finding a spot that put him acutely upwind. Typically strategically disadvantageous, but here he wanted his location known. With a playful growl, he pounced. Not onto anything in particular at all. Instead, his bold - and noisy leap put him downwind. Close enough to the hole to be heard clearly, but not enough for him to see whether or not Tortoisepaw left the hiding spot. He'd just have to pay attention. He/They + Single + Gay + Apprentice: Tortoisepaw + Roll: 11
