💀🔥💀🔥💀🔥💀
Crowflame slipped out of camp quietly, for the third time that night. She was never very good at the whole “good night's sleep” thing, but something about lately was making her restless. It probably had nothing to do with the fact that Beestar had just passed. The sudden hierarchy change definitely wasn’t causing him undue stress, and the fact that he was feeling mostly ambivalent wasn’t bothering him at all. Obviously, this is sad. They thought, not particularly paying attention to where they wandered.
Death is sad. And she was your leader! Losing one’s leader is sad.
Xe stopped and slapped a paw on the ground.
“Then why don’t I feel anything?"

Turtlefang was already about, soaking in the shadows with a quiet, contemplative look on his face where he perched on a fallen log- Not so relaxed that he might miss a stray sound, but moreso than he usually found himself nonetheless. It was only catching sight of a paler pelt in the woods, warm and amber amidst the cold gleam of pallid moonlight and deep darkness; Not unlike a flame, if you will. Needless to say, he wasn't particularly inclined to approach off the bat. He'd never been the most sociable cat, even if socially capable, and it was so late at night that the only conversations to be had would surely be hushed, overly personal ones, in his experience. And yet...
That stupid promise to stupid Rabbitstar.
While not necessarily being held to his word to do some homework on potential night patrol members, it was certainly the place and time to take hold of the opportunity. If Crowflame were regularly so restless, this was the chance for recruitment. Cocking his head in what he hoped was a friendly gesture, he called out to the passerby: "Hello there. Seeking solitude, or may I catch your company for a moment?"

Crowflame started, having not been paying as much attention to her surroundings as she probably should have. They whipped in the direction the question had come from, now looking only slightly more disheveled than usual, amber fur sticking out at odd angles. Xe fixed him with a look not unlike a glare, though it was very hard to distinguish from xeir normal facial expression.
She paused, finally processing the question.
“Oh yes, of course, that’s fine.”
She nodded politely, approaching casually as if everything was completely normal.

What a catered response. Not missing the initial way xe jolted at his voice, Turtlefang smiled, a faint gesture in the direction of courtesy. After all, he was hardly trying to scare off a fellow nightpacer. On prim paws, he dismounted the log with a silent hop, stepping over to meet Crowflame rather than continue to raise his voice across the distance. "Lovely night," He started conversationally. If he were put off in any way by her disgruntled expression, he hardly showed it- Then again, it wasn't unlike xim to mope around camp with the same sort of face, sticking out worse than even himself on a bad day. More than anything, he suspected this was just the way she was, same as the spots on his back. An unchanging state.
Settling a little over tail length from the molly, Turtlefang's tail swept the ground in a low wave of greeting as he spoke, casual and untargeted as if he didn't have one very clear agenda on his mind. "Having trouble sleeping? I won't keep you long, if so. Just curious, since I'm a bit of a night owl myself."

Crowflame padded over leisurely, seemingly forgetting her earlier outburst. He stared down Turtlefang as he approached, in what he hoped was a friendly expression, but probably came off as another glare. “Yes, yes nights do tend to be lovely.” Xe mewed, meaning it genuinely, though it sounded a bit sarcastic. “It’s when the bats come out.” Her face split into something that could be described as a grin.
She settled, eventually, wrapping her long tail neatly around her paws as she sat. “Oh you know how it is,” they replied, vaguely waving a paw. “Sleep and I have never really shared a den.”

Bats? It was a strange detail to mention, but Turtlefang passed over it without comment, instead nodding his head sympathetically towards Crowflame's nighttime plight- One he not only shared, but reveled in with the opening it gave him to spring his proposal. "That's always a shame. There's a big social pressure on warriors to synchronize their schedules, even those of us who lean more on the nocturnal side."
More attentive now, he mimicked the way the other warrior held her tail, coiling his own over his dark paws in a half conscious mirror. With the airs of nonchalance, he offered his secret with a lift of the head, eyes widening a fraction for emphasis. Calculated, practiced. "I have an idea I've been working on. If you could perform your duties after daylight hours, dwell in the darkness with bats by the moon's glow, would that feel more comfortable than trying to force yourself to sleep every night? Seeing you out here, I couldn't help but consider if it'd suit you better than the current way of doing things."

Crowflame shifted, listening intently. Truthfully, she wasn’t usually one to be so…social. Or social at all. He had barely begun to process exactly what the other warrior had to say before he was exclaiming, “Yes!” They paused, clearing their throat. “I believe that would better suit my abilities, yes.”

▼△▼ Iceglow ▼△▼ He’d been worried - of course he’d been worried - as he watched Crowflame exit the camp. It wasn’t unusual for her, but Iceglow knew his sister. Something was on her mind. It would be too easy to just ask, though, and that wasn’t really his style. Instead, the pointed cat snuck along, stalking the taller tabby like prey, waiting for the ideal moment to pounce. A very simple, very classically Iceglow plan. Tackle, fight maybe, and talk about what was going on with Crowflame and his thoughts. Unfortunately, Turtlefang had gotten to them first. Iceglow hissed internally, rolling his eyes as Turtlefang had approached. He’d been planning to wait, but upon hearing that proposition… Well, he had only barely managed to restrict the same enthusiasm that spilled so easily out of Crowflame. Aw, we really are twins.Iceglow strolled out from their hiding place, a casual but mischievous smile worn as a warning. “So, what’s the catch?,” they all but purred, as if the invitation had been offered to them rather than Crowflame. He couldn’t very well let xem have all the fun, could he? He/They + Single + Gay

The momentary flicker of satisfaction with Crowflame's speedy recruitment was rapidly extinguished with the arrival of an unwelcome guest, like a particularly frosty gust of air across his pelt. The brother.
Turtlefang didn't dally. Locking eyes with Iceglow, his response was unfettered, as if they hadn't totally interrupted his private enlistment meeting. "For Crowflame? None. But for you, however..." With an idle smile, more out of impulse than anything planned, his tail unfurled from his paws to arc back behind him in an easy, decisive sweep. "You'll have to speak with our talented deputy before you consider yourself officially part of the team. All my outreaches are done with Rabbitblaze's clearance, and we discussed your sibling first and foremost." It wasn't exactly true. More than anything, the other tom had given Turtlefang full permission to use his own judgement on team assembly, so long as communication was maintained between them. But as of right now, it hardly mattered. Not when he could pass one problem off of his back and onto the boss. That's what being in charge is all about, isn't it?
More importantly, it'd give him a hard pass out of this awkward situation. Already making to his feet as if the conversation had begun and ended in their singular exchange, Turtlefang nodded his head to each of the cats. "I trust that you'll be able to work it out with the help of our capable superiors. Far be it my place to stand between something as important as family."

"Ha, I was thought about first." Crowflame mewed dryly, unphased as her beloved twin approached. He unintentionally mirrored Turtlefang, getting to his feet silently. Xe had already near forgotten the prior conversation, immediately jumping on the chance to be a nuisance to xeir brother.
"I doubt you could keep him away, anyway." They smirked, parking themselves next to the orange-ish cat. "He's like one of those little thorns you get stuck in your paws that you can't seem to get rid of."
She plopped a paw on her brothers head, gently of course. Obviously, she meant nothing by the comments, she simply never wasted an opportunity to bother her twin.

▼△▼ Iceglow ▼△▼ With a hiss that meant nothing, he swatted at his sister's paw, feigning a grasp with his claws. “SunClan's lucky to be incapable of getting rid of me of their own volition,” they scowled. His glare quickly made a target out of Turtlefang, violet eyes locked intently. “If this is Rabbitblaze's mission, why'd he send you? When were you two so close?” He lashed his tail with an irritability that was only somewhat staved off by his even greater love for pestering other cats. Cats like Turtlefang, especially, who were made rigid as rocks by their adherence to rules and tradition. The fact that he could move his tail so easily would shock Iceglow, if they didn't have other priorities at the moment. He swat another paw at Crowflame's paw. “Fadedstripes, can't you tell the deputy's deputy and I are having a serious conversation? Go back to your nest,” he scolded playfully, smirking only when his eyes landed on xem. Their eyes landed back on Turtlefang, returning to the very important business of bothering a cat who had something they wanted. Traditionally, not a smart move, but Iceglow was very much so a cat here for a good time, not a long one. “Since you've obviously gotten cozy with him, just let him know there's been a change in plan, and I'll keep this one-” he gestured at Crowflame with a very subtle and affectionate head against their stomach - “in check for you. You've no idea what sort of pawful he can be, really.”Words spoken with affection, because if he wasn't Crowflame's perfect twin brother, he was hardly much at all. Might as well take half his limbs at that rate. He/They + Single + Gay

Do not engage.
Moons of dealing with his own pesky brothers had taught Turtlefang the smartest way to deal with smacktalk, and it was not to give a single pawstep. It was annoying, to say the least, to see the way Crowflame and Iceglow moved so easily together, bumping about and playfully snarking off like the best of friends. It wasn't as if he hadn't calculated this possibility before spontaneously meeting with the former of the two, but he'd assumed that the cover of night would offer a crucial opportunity to speak to Crowflame and Crowflame alone. None of this package deal nonsense that every twin this side of the border liked to try and pull off. Real warriors didn't get to pick and choose who they clung to like immature kits.
But it didn't matter. Because it was Rabbitstar's problem. Besides, it was hardly a problem to be seen all buddy-buddy with the guy in charge, as much as it grated. Could be helpful someday soon. Ideally, sooner than later.
His smile did not falter. "Rabbitstar's mission was placed in my paws because I helped to conceptualize it. Consider it a partnership. But, of course, it would be wrong for a regular warrior like me to handle the final say on things. My involvement only goes so far as suggestion. So... I'm afraid you'll have to deliver your message personally, to work out those concrete answers you both have your hearts set on." With a little wave of his tail in dismissal, Turtlefang dipped his head- the last thing he'd do was hang around to see any more of this mess. The last thing he'd do was take orders from some conversation-crashing loose end. "Thank you for your time, Crowflame. I'll let you two keep an eye on each other, hm?"

Crowflame scoffed at her brother. "Keep it up and I'll pick you up and carry you back to camp again." They warned, half playful and half serious. It was all in good fun, but xe was not one to make even joking threats lightly. He would go through with it.
She silently watched the two during the rest of the conversation, silently listening. At xeir name, xe spoke up.
"Anytime," he replied smoothly. "Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on this little menace to society." She playfully bopped Iceglow's head with her paw.

▼△▼ Iceglow ▼△▼ Gasping with the rage of an unjustified sense of having been insulted, Iceglow almost couldn't decide which cat was most deserving of his indignant glare. He settled on Turtlefang, solely “Try to keep your head out of the stars, Turtlefang! Don't want you to trip when your mind is with someone- sorry, when your mind is somewhere else!,” he called with the sweetness of blatant teasing. Alright, that part was done, now for their sister. Swatting again at Crowflame, he moved so he was facing her instead of being at the mercy of her side. “You don't get to drag me back to camp when you're the one who snuck out to begin with,” he retorted with a scowl. Playfully, they swatted at the extra fur of Crowflame's mane. “Good thing Turtlefang wants you for his patrol, otherwise Rabbitstar might have you banished for being so disobedient. Who would I go to for an easy fight if that happened?” All for play, all for play. “... did you really leave camp to go look for bats? You're going to have to go find moths, I think.” He/They + Single + Gay

Turtlefang didn't validate the teasing with a response- He didn't need anything else to motivate his exit. With his dignity still successfully intact, however the siblings might see it for themselves, he sauntered off with the pace of a cat with no rush, no burdens, no worries. Nothing but his own desire to get away from the interaction as fast as possible, but with the restraint to do so with regality. As he met with the encroaching entrance to the camp, growing closer pawstep by pawstep, he pondered the developments of the evening, pondered what it may be like if Iceglow really did get approved for the patrol. Crowflame was fine, the manageable sort who was gruff but not a hassle. The pair, though...
Well. It was terrible two's for a reason.
With an unpleasant coil in his gut as he considered the outcome, he decided to wait a while before discussing patrol assignment with the new leader. Maybe keeping everyone waiting would starve them all out of that strange, rebellious nosiness that so many warriors kept approaching him with. Or, just the white and ginger ones. Only time would tell.
