▸HUMBLE BONE◂ SPEAKER OF CLAWS The large, white shape that slipped in the shadows of the evening was quick to grimace at any flicker of light that met their form, giving a short grunt as they slipped deftly down from the mountain range. His eyes stayed on his paws and crevices, counting each one as the memories of the motions lured them down into the realms of the clan cats.
They've been busy. Far, far too busy to make this trip often, the dangers that went along with it cast aside, thought that was why they were leaving now. They had watched and would keep watching until it was time for action. Their actions were as follows: climb down alongside the waterfalls and ponds, down from the great lake above her now, and investigate the Moonpond, and then the river that fed into the lesser lake.
It easily clambered down, pinkish eyes squinting a moment before the darkness was well adjusted to; with proper cover, the world felt much darker, even as night swallowed the world. The moon was nearly full, and with that came the knowledge that these clans would be more active, or perhaps more pliant, given the circumstances it knew of. Whatever the case, it would be left alone.
It stood and traced around the shared lands, the neutral zones, looking over pristine waters and nearby foliage, all while dancing along shadows like a ghost from old stories told to little kits who wandered too far off from the nest. He was elegant and strong, intimidating but alluring all the same, like moonlight given form. Beautiful, surely, but with an edge that let you know at a glance that if she wanted to, she could snap her teeth into you and drag you down with a single paw. And it would.

Being a warrior was about taking matters into your own paws.
True to his sentiment, Tinyleaf had left camp in a heightened restlessness, heightened as he got used to Swanmask doling out patrols every day instead of Rabbitblaze- Rabbitstar- and way his nest had gotten slighter more compact with the addition of more cats to the warrior's den. A lot was changing, and he couldn't help but feel he needed to step to the plate, as well. What can I do, when everyone is working so hard to deal with all the change? It was a tough question. Just hunting and patrolling as much as possible didn't seem to bring a smile to anyone's face. Didn't seem to take that weird hurry out of their new leader's paws, or make Swanmask any more at ease. And yet, Turtlefang seemed to be doing just fine, whispering about things with warriors every now and then that he'd never been seen speaking to before in their entire lives together. It made Tinyleaf feel weird, feel unstable on his paws when he went about the camp looking for things to do. Somewhere in the midst of it, he'd heard something about a night patrol. Was that what had been going on this whole time?
A tiny, secret part of him had ached with the injustice of being left out of the loop. Me! Does he not trust me? What's so important to be done at night that I can't do it? Tinyleaf had frowned hard and heavy before deciding to take his own moonlit excursion. Perhaps, if he found some way to reprove his efficiency to the cats around him, it'd be just what he needed to be useful to a clan that was suddenly shifting. With some light probing, he'd gathered a list of herbs from Vinedapple that he held close to his memory right now, like the tansy already caught in his mouth like prey. But just tansy wasn't enough. More than anything, he wanted to bring back a whole bundle of herbs. Something to impress the medicine cat and wow even his brother with just how capable Tinyleaf could be!
Unfortunately. The forest was kind of tricky to walk around at night.
In his own haze, he'd kind of lost sight of where he was going as he picked out the herbs he'd asked Fawnheart to describe, too shy to show inexperience in front of the clan's healer. It's okay. When the sun comes up, I'll know just where I am! He was so focused on his task, hunting leaves like mice, that when he saw a flicker of white nearby, he almost thought the moon had come down just to shine a beam for him. Blinking, but not so startled that he dropped his herbs, Tinyleaf turned around, tail aloft in high alert as he stared after the movement. Then, muffled around his locked teeth: "Hello?"

▸HUMBLE BONE◂ SPEAKER OF CLAWS Humble rose their head, their attention swiftly directed to the rustling of an approaching cat even before he even spoke. They squinted a moment, slinking slowly between shadows like the moon personified. She took in the cat before her, easily noting that this was a clan cat by scent alone, as well as the confidence he had traveling alone at night.
He gauged the threat a moment, but it was only for a breath of time before he kept out of the undergrowth. Their calm confidence was evident in their posture, eyes locked on the warrior even while their features stayed lax. They were large for a cat, muscular and yet almost dainty looking.
"Hello..." she eventually rumbled, low and even. It was not a threatening tone, but in the dark and with their posture, they read as though that could be changed on a dime. ▸ speaks in "bold #e176e0" ▫ attack in bold italic #e176e0 ◂ © Artificial-Radiance

The leaves almost dropped out of his mouth once a broad figure revealed themselves- How could it have even hid in the first place?! Tinyleaf stared at them with wide eyes, his initial response lost to him as he was utterly dwarfed by her size and bulk. He was also utterly stunned by its beauty, bright and radiating with moonlight off a pale pelt and uniquely colored eyes. And yet, as he searched her form, he couldn't find even a single star in their pelt to affiliate them to the Silverpelt which had surely dropped it here. How else could it emerge so easily from the darkness, with what should have been an appearance he would've spotted from miles in advance? But no. In spite of everything, this cat was alive and well. And. Definitely not a clan cat. I'd remember that face.
"Um." Politely, he lowered his head, setting his herbs down gently between his paws so that he might speak without accidentally inhaling and choking on one. Tinyleaf readjusted his stance to look up at it, suddenly feeling a little intimidated. I'm a Sunclan warrior! It's fine. "Who are you? I guess I must have wandered further than I thought... are you on your way to the clans, or was it me who ran into a passerby?"

▸HUMBLE BONE◂ SPEAKER OF CLAWS His whiskers twitched slightly, either due to amusement or being unimpressed with the warrior. Their gaze flickered at the herbs a moment before steadying on Tinyleaf once more as they spoke. "I am Humble Bone. I'm... visiting. From the mountains above." He gave a short gesture with his tail to the wall of stone.
She then slowly, meticulously, even, stepped closer. She was steady and sure of herself as she continued. I'm here to feed my curiosities on your cultures in these territories. I know only twinkles of your afterlife." Its tail gave an easy sway to gesture at the moonpond behind it. "I assume you know more about that then most? I know you clans have your more spiritual types tied to your gathering of plants." ▸ speaks in "bold #e176e0" ▫ attack in bold italic #e176e0 ◂ © Artificial-Radiance

Oh, wow. Whatever he'd been expecting, that type of speech wasn't it. Tinyleaf was struck once again by a strange, looming feeling that seemed to embue even the big, powerful words of this big, powerful visitor. Or, had she just gotten closer? Resisting the urge to step back, he slowly blinked again while his brain took a moment to untangle the meaning behind Humble Bone's strange explanation. "Twinkles..?"
Gathering of plants.
Oh!
Tinyleaf straightened up, pawing the edge of the herbs below him with an easy giggle. "Oh, you mean these! No, I'm not a medicine cat. Or, um- I think that's what you mean! I'm just helping out by bringing these to the actual medicine cat, since he's been busy with other things." Somehow, the thought of being confused for a healer was embarrassing- He was nowhere close to Vinedapple in the scope or elegance of his work. It'd been the most important thing to clear up first, not wanting to take credit for a role he didn't have the honor of inhabiting. But then... Where could he go from there? The smaller cat looked down at his collection before looking at Humble Bone awkwardly, realizing that if he wasn't the kind of cat it wanted to talk to, then it sort of put the both of them at a dead end. Unless..? "If that's the kind of thing you're trying to learn about, then I could escort you to Sunclan's camp so you could meet him yourself? The afterlife... isn't really my strong point. I mean, I hope it won't be for a long time, honestly!"

▸HUMBLE BONE◂ SPEAKER OF CLAWS It hummed in response, fixing him with a look as it thought. It was a careful calculation on her part, but after a moment of being under her gaze she turned away, her attention back on the pond. "No, that won't be necessary. I don't like being closed in."
They took a few steps to be at the shore, certain in their motions as they stared down at the water and watched the stars reflect. "Your little groups have been having struggles, haven't they," he mewed, not at all framing it as a question. It was a statement, a small scratch on the surface of what exactly she new. And after that they dipped their head lower to the water, watching the ripples from the not-too-far falls before they decided to take a drink. If it was enacting a taboo in the eyes of the warrior, it didn't care. This was, in the back of her mind, a show of power. A sign she cared not for what the afterlife may have to say on her actions. Not in full, at least. ▸ speaks in "bold #e176e0" ▫ attack in bold italic #e176e0 ◂ © Artificial-Radiance

Tinyleaf withdrew somewhat, leaning away from Humble Bone's critical gaze like a spotlight and feeling all too relieved when it had moved on to place its focus elsewhere. Somehow, even being called in front of Beestar during his apprentice ceremony hadn't carried the same weight he'd felt here with this strange loner. The eyes of a mere stranger, a soft pink and blue that should have reminded him of a sunrise, had left him feeling suffocated beneath unseen claws. It'd felt dangerous, like staring into the abyssal glare of a fox crashing through the camp walls.
It left him feeling a little thrilled! What a powerful aura!
He watched, still silenced from that same overwhelming force it carried, as she approached the sacred pond, breaking its fragile surface with a mere touch of their nose. Tinyleaf felt his pelt squirm at her statement, at the way it didn't seem to realize the consequences of its actions over such a holy site... As exciting as an impression he'd been given, it probably wasn't right to just let them dip at the water like that, regardless of how harmless it may appear to an uninformed wanderer. "I-I'm not sure what you mean... I'm just a regular warrior. So, I don't really get to have much insight about those sorts of things... You should be careful over there, too. It's special."

▸HUMBLE BONE◂ SPEAKER OF CLAWS "Oh, I'm aware, little warrior." He was back to looking at him, rising from the water. "A mere taste of what the dead provide has yet to bring me harm." She spoke in such a way that it's clear she'd come down here before and drank from the holy waters. Something implied by their posture and the way they looked at him implied they wanted him to join them, even more shockingly.
Whether or not he did, she took a seat for a moment, now directing her attention to the sky. It was looking at the stars, scrutinizing or perhaps even judging them. "You all carry the belief that these stars are cats from the past, yes?" And once more it looked at him, now properly inviting in a chilly way. He looked like an icy lantern in the dark with how the moonlight would shine on him through the trees and fronds. Little warrior. Maybe compared to them, it was true- yet it felt like a descriptor that ran deeper, as if undermining Tinyleaf's significance. Undermining the importance of his warning. He stared at the broad expanse of her back once it turned away to look elsewhere, up at the skies above. Tentative, the Sunclan warrior knelt to retrieve his herbs, carrying them gently within his jaws as he lingered a little closer to the white rogue, not so bold yet as to sit beside them, but still drawn in by their regal way of speaking and superior mannerisms. Like speaking with a leader who wasn't his own, a leader from something bigger than even the clans. A natural pecking order?Tinyleaf placed his herbs back underpaw, gazed upon the glow of Humble Bone with the awed caution of meeting one of the very ancestors he referred to. Struck by how easily they spoke as if the clans beliefs were mere beliefs rather than known facts, he blinked uneasily, but cast his own eyes upward, searching for. Something. Honestly, in the grand scheme of his life, he'd always been aware of Starclan, per say, but. There wasn't exactly a relationship to be had between the living and the dead, not for a regular cat like him as opposed to one of the higher powered officials he worked beneath. For him, Starclan was something imminent, yet transient. Something that laid ahead, eternal and constant, yet did not exist in his life outside of secondhand knowledge. Even having ancestors above, it felt. Distant.
"When a cat dies," Tinyleaf found himself speaking without intending to, the words hushed and hollow. "It's said that they ascend to Silverpelt in the form of a star. In that way, Starclan is always watching over us from above, guiding us with their light and reminding us of our place in their ranks. It gives us something to strive for in life, I suppose. To be worthy of preservation after death, and continue working to help your clanmates even after you can no longer hunt or patrol. That's why they talk to the medicine cats and the leaders. To show us the right way." Then, faltering somewhat, he added ruefully, "I've never met them."

▸HUMBLE BONE◂ SPEAKER OF CLAWS They hummed, ears swiveling to a more neutral position after his response. "I see." She seemed aware of the seeds she's sown into the warrior and calmly continued her train of thought. A truer fragment of why she was here. "But why would your ancestors hide away from their majority?"
Doubt was something he was good and creating, he found. And she liked that fact, enjoyed this talent she had gained. "If they linger to help, why wouldn't they walk among the dreams of a common warrior?" This being a success wasn't on its mind, what it wanted to do was weaken that belief, if only a bit, and it could be a patient cat if needed. "I don't doubt the kindness of your ancestors, but I find it odd that they'd be so quiet." ▸ speaks in "bold #e176e0" ▫ attack in bold italic #e176e0 ◂ © Artificial-Radiance

Difficult questions. Ones that Tinyleaf didn't know how to answer- After all, he was a warrior, not a medium for the deceased. His ears twitched uncomfortably as he turned his gaze to Humble Bone's turned head, yet it didn't stop him from stepping a little closer, strangely compelled by these foreign ideas that no other warrior had ever voiced before. Not in his presence, at least. It was... a little scary. But I am a warrior, and a warrior never falters. Driven by curiosity, he blinked down at the Moonpond for answers, as if the stars wobbling around within the water were any closer than the ones arched tail-lengths upon tail-lengths above his head. As if he'd hear an answer warble out from the depths, where he'd never heard it before.
"Well..." Rooting his legs a bit more firmly, Tinyleaf tried to meet their questions with the same tactful, masterful tone that she seemed to carry so effortlessly. "A warrior is just a warrior. We have no leadership over the clan, and we don't have the training or experience of a superior to make the same informed decisions... Starclan can only trust their knowledge with those who are equipped to interpret and follow it. A normal warrior is prone to their own biases and weakness of will... but the cats in charge are in charge for a reason. We can trust them to be strong where we're weak. Like, ah... making sure that there's no conflict of interpretation or any amateur warrior trying to twist Starclan's words to suit their own claims." His voice grew weaker towards the end, concluding a bit lamely in what he could only assume was the truth, since nobody had bothered to tell him otherwise.

▸HUMBLE BONE◂ SPEAKER OF CLAWS They gave a small tilt of their head. "Are not all beings biased?" she questioned, raising a brow. "If a coup were to be formed, a medicine cat may fib on what your stars have said to sway the masses in the rebel's favour, or perhaps against them if the leadership is questionable. What of a warrior with a destiny the stars may tell them of? What if StarClan was whispering to you all the while, but you would never know due to the teachings of your clans?"
His ear flicked like he heard something nearby before he sat up straighter. "With so few at the top, how would you more lowly cats be expected to continue your beliefs as they are?" Once more its eerie gaze went down to the reflective waters. "And if I were speaking falsehoods, wouldn't your stars strike me in some way? I've heard as such on the night's breath." ▸ speaks in "bold #e176e0" ▫ attack in bold italic #e176e0 ◂ © Artificial-Radiance

"That's not true!" It was an instinctive defense, but Tinyleaf's eyes rounded with genuine hurt. "Starclan would never hurt you... They would never harm or threaten any cat, even if you don't listen to them. Our former clanmates are as noble as they were in life." The orange and white of his tail spasmed at the end unhappily, not comfortable with the constant push of Humble Bone to call his very reality into question. After all, the stars were every clan cat's inevitable home. It wouldn't be auspicious to doubt them, to offend them in any way. My mom.. is there. He had to believe, with family of his own in the heavens, that he was in their favor. The rest didn't matter.
"Medicine cats don't lie, either.. they're picked especially by Starclan, just like leaders. Starclan wouldn't pick cats they couldn't trust. They.. just can't trust everyone and anyone. No one can." He frowned at his paws, unable to face the sky as he spoke his reasoning. He hoped that much wouldn't be blasphemous, but... "They're a collective. They have to act as a majority, like us. Even if the decisions are selective, it's for the most optimized outcome. Warriors don't have destinies like leaders, anyway. If they did, they'd be leaders themselves."

The toms pelt had blended in with the shadows of the night, their green eye reflecting the moons beams that occasionally caught it while their brown one looked rather blacked out gazed forward as he trudged through the area near where he now called home, he was taking a break from staying by their sisters side much to tired to deal with her attitude right now and so the spotted smoke blended with the shadows seamlessly their muscles rippled beneath long fur the scar upon their maw the only thing marring their appearance he had quietly moved through the underbrush like a shadow shifting with the light.
He had come upon two others though he wasn't sure of how to approach by the ones scent they were of Sunclan like Cherryfire, though this cat seemed upset the other must be another unknown cat their scent gave off that of the crisp mountain air. A place he and his sister had ventured through thankfully with no contact with the cats he had been sure lived amongst its crevices and mysterious caves.
