RABBITBLAZE A meeting seemed pointless. Would he even be able to speak right now? Didn’t everyone know Beestar was- that she- didn’t everyone hear the wails of her kits? To make an announcement and bring attention to it felt callous. It still had to be done. They were going to need a deputy - so much good that had done for Beestar - and the Clan needed a guiding paw. His paw. For reasons he didn’t understand. His paws burned with every move as he leapt up to that hallowed tree where leaders had made their announcements for generations. Leaders. “All cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather around for a Clan meeting!” His voice rang out, clear and firm. He wouldn’t forsake his Clanmates just so he could wallow in his own sorrow. He had a new den just for that. He waited patiently as the crowd of cats gathered, heeding the ancient words. “As you all may already know, Beestar was found dead today. We don’t know how this happened, I’m afraid, but it seems the last of their lives had been used up in whatever happened last night. We will be holding vigil for them, to honor her memory and the strength they’ve brought to our Clan.” Good deputies rarely sought promotions, in his opinion, because of how often it was a sign of tragedy. He’d very much hoped that Beestar would’ve simply retired after the moons went by, and peacefully, voluntarily, transferred the title to him. That wasn’t very much like them though, was it? “Tomorrow night, I shall journey to the Moonpool to receive StarClan’s blessing as SunClan’s new leader. Tonight, however there are immediate promotions in order - the Clan will need a new deputy-” those words were unwavering and yet felt so unsure, hadn’t SunClan’s misfortune started so soon after a deputy was appointed?- “and there are warriors needing to join our ranks. Cats who I wish I could promote under better circumstances, I hope you’ll forgive me for the timing.”He’d ignore those concerns. Their Clan’s culture demanded a deputy immediately, and SunClan couldn’t cope with more bad news. “I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors, especially Beestar, may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of SunClan is Swanmask.” He waited for silence before continuing, the signal of a raised tail tip more difficult with his permanently ringed tail. He gazed out into the crowd, trying to find a single cat in the midst of things. “Lightpaw, if you’re feeling composed enough, please approach.”Swanmask lightmist |

Swanmask believed she must have misheard having moved so that she might be able to catch what Rabbitblaze had to say about this current terrible event she was in no way ready for the announcement that she would become deputy her eyes wide she began to move forward she would take up a position near the front she took notice of those that called her name in a way of welcoming her to her new rank the noise ceasing once Rabbitblaze had risen their tail slightly she knew that things had to keep going even today but it was still a shock once everyone quieted Rabbitblaze soon to be Rabbitstar she supposed called upon Lightpaw she looked back for the current apprentice in wonder. Would things really move forward this quickly? She felt sort of like she was encroaching on things at the moment its like the wind stilled so that it may listen too.

From his place in the crowd, Tinyleaf trembled with a gust of wind he wasn't altogether sure truly existed. But a shiver overtook him nonetheless as he watched Swanmask ascend, soon to be followed by Lightpaw. It was the second time this season they'd seen a deputy named, and while such an occasion was meant to be a happy promotion, the tragic implications weren't lost on even him. Still, amidst the grief, amidst the shock, the patched warrior offered a small smile to the cats put on display- Rabbitblaze, Swanmask, the upcoming apprentice. All of them, bravely facing down the clan, bravely passing the torch even when the recent loss threatened to choke them all out. There was something empowering about it all. Maybe this is what makes naming a deputy so important. The morale boost may not be felt immediately by everyone, but the stability of rebalancing a broken leadership definitely would be.
It almost felt wrong to cry out, to call the name of the new deputy so soon after the promotion of the prior one, but with the swell of voices finding courage all around him, Tinymask joined in to the chant, waving his tail to the new powers in the best little display of support he could, regardless of whether or not it'd be seen.

✧･ﾟ: *✧･ﾟ:* Rabbitstar *:･ﾟ✧*:･ﾟ✧ With Lightpaw’s uncharacteristic hesitance to approach, Rabbitblaze merely nodded sorrow understanding before directing his attention to Lightpaw’s siblings. It seemed their promotions would come later. Finally, his violet eyes made their way to his apprentice. Snowpaw. “Very well, then. Snowpaw, if you’re feeling ready, please approach.” He beckoned with his tail, fighting any emotional tells. It was sad and he was sad, but that didn’t stop the pride of knowing his apprentice was becoming a full fledged warrior. The relief that Snowpaw would be the first apprentice he would be promoting to warriorhood. He hadn’t done it initially to shed accusations of bias, and so that he didn’t hold up the other apprentices with any affection or prideful displays that might slip. A safety measure. But with a good portion of the ceremonies being postponed, they could afford this moment. They could afford a small moment of joy. They probably needed it more than anything right now, even. |

The warrior-aged tom looked slightly startled as he moved forward he looked at the other apprentices that would have received their names as well today and felt like he was stepping on paws that he never wanted to but he also wanted to move forward and keeping his name in the face of their deceased leader wouldn't do them any good it set them back a bit actually. He felt that by receiving his name it showed whoever was watching that they could move on and that they remained a strong clan even when things were sombre. And so he moved to the front of the gathered cats to stand beneath the hollowed tree he dipped his head slightly in greeting before waiting for Rabbitblaze to continue, the other tom would be receiving a new name soon as well making his tail twitch slightly as he realized that his mentor would become their leader it was a prideful moment for Snowpaw himself.

How wonderful it was that Snowpaw was becoming a warrior - how fortunate it was that Snowpaw was willing to partake in the ceremony. He had the sense that the young cat understood as well as he did that the Clan needed this, that they needed the ability to move on. He’s always been clever.Rabbitblaze nodded his approval as Snowpaw approached. He turned away his gaze, partially focusing on the stars above them. Beestar came to mind. I’ll make you proud. “I, Rabbitblaze, leader of SunClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. He has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in his turn.” He returned his gaze fully on Snowpaw. “Snowpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?” |

Snowpaw could see the light shining in Rabbitblaze's eyes, he was happy that he could make his mentor proud. He wasn't sure if he had managed his assessment properly but it would seem he had and now he had a couple steps to make before he could receive his warrior name. When Rabbitblaze asked him if he promised to uphold the warrior code and defend the clan at the cost of your life he took just a couple breaths before he answered.
"Yes, I do." he replied with a slight dip of his head.

He had discussed this with Beestar before. He knew already just what was to be said, though he'd never intended it to come from his own mouth. A ghost's words and reasons found themselves in his throat. “Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Snowpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Snowspirit. StarClan honors your bravery and cleverness, and we welcome you as a full warrior of SunClan.”Closing the little gap between them as the Clan cheered the new name, Rabbitblaze completed the tradition as he gently rested his muzzle on Snowpaw- Snow spirit's - head. “I'm so proud of you, Snowspirit. If I had to perform this ceremony, I'm glad it was yours,” he murmured. A moment just for them before their vigils took them for the night. A moment for something marginally happy. |
