Over The Riverbend

Well, that wasn't the response she really wanted here. Whatever, if he wasn't going to take the bait, he wouldn't take the bait. She'd just have to get rid of him and find a cat more interesting to toy with. Other cats were basically mice, anyway. All over the place and easy to play with until the bitter end.

She switched tactics, and chirped as if she'd been pleasantly surprised. “Oh, I can help you with that,” she purred, approaching the warrior and shedding the frightened facade. “Just follow me, okay? I wouldn't want for you to get into any trouble, especially with such luscious fur and such self restraint! I'm glad to have been wrong about you.” Saying so, she let her tail brush against his side before gesturing for him to follow her.

What sort of cat got themselves lost in enemy territory like this? “If you don't mind me asking, what happened so that you ended up all the way out here?” She tilted her head in the image of innocent curiosity. She could smell rabbit as they walked, but she'd let him tell her that himself. She didn't need him changing his mind and deciding she was a liability.

She laughed lightly, a sound like birdsong in new-leaf. “Aw, don't be silly - how am I supposed to tell the difference between a SunClan rabbit and a MoonClan rabbit? Can they really be that different? The rabbit smell could be from here for all I know,” she answered innocently. A rabbit? Really? Who crosses a river over a rabbit? Ignoring her judgements, she kept smiling, humming gently as the pair walked.

“If they really are that different, I hope you'll offer me a bite,” she joked, casually bumping their shoulders together, like they were kithood friends. She could keep sounding overly trusting, too friendly, possibly naive and even stupid if it would keep him disarmed. She was prepared for that. That wasn't nearly as hard to bounce back from as it would be if she went with the opposite approach. A little bit of tact could go a long way. More than that, it was bait. How he'd react would set the scene for just what she could get out of this little interaction. He got to keep his pretty coat, after all. She'd have her share.
