SUNCLAN CAMP THREAD
This thread is for general roleplay and it takes place in whatever camp the Clan currently is in. Anyone is allowed to jump into this thread at any time.
Camp details: Unlike MoonClan, SunClan stays in the same camp year-round. The camp is located in the northeastern part of the celestial territories. It is constructed similarly to the MoonClan Newleaf Camp in the sense that many of the dens are made out of cavities in the rocks that form the base of the camp. The overall camp is made in the bed of a dried-up pond. The soil is very rich, and many different wildflowers grow within the camp. It is easy to build dens here as much of the ground is made of clay leftover from the pond. Because of this, it is not uncommon for SunClan camp to have minor flooding during the seasonal flooding, but it hasn't caused them to move camps yet. The elders' den and nursery are both made of such cavities at the base of the mountains. There is a considerable amount of space between the two dens where queens will sunbathe or kits will listen to stories from the elders. Across camp are the warriors' and apprentices' dens. They are each formed underneath of gorse bushes. The outline of the den is made of a small wall of clay shaped by SunClan warriors and apprentices. The walls are reinforced with brambles, and the warriors and apprentices must reinforce these after each flooding season. In the center of camp, there is a small dead oak tree. Much of the soil and clay has been cleared from this. The Clan leader makes their den beneath these roots and calls Clan meetings from the dead tree's branches. A few yards away from the leader's den is a pile of boulders that hosts the fresh-kill pile. Cats are knwon to sunbathe and share tongues on these rocks.

It was a warm day in Sunclan, suitably, and Fawnheart found himself perched by the fresh kill pile. Although he wasn't commonly seen out in the middle of everything, it was a nice day, and he often found himself lonely with his brothers recently busying themselves volunteering for clan duties. While he knew he ought to be stepping up and doing the same, it was easier said than done at times- So many of their clanmates were consistently eager and outspoken, and it made it hard to stand out. But then, he hardly had to. Sometimes, being a warrior meant doing the little things, like helping the queens or fetching herbs for the medicine cat. Not rushing out of camp all the time.
Today, on the other hand, he was happy just to be idle for the time being, without anything to do at all. He didn't much like being on his own, so it felt nice every now and then to absorb the company of his clan, even if just through proximity. Laying with his paws tucked neatly beneath him, Fawnheart was a tightly patched bundle of fur, ready to spring up and move should anyone else want to relax in his spot. But for now, unaddressed and unintruding, he remained where he was, sleepily awaiting the return of his brothers as he blinked blearily at the camp's exit for any sign of movement.

✧ ♬♩♡ ♪♩ Rookbriar ♩♪ ♡♩♬ ✧ With her kits being two moons of age, old enough to roam the camp and spend time with the elders, Rookbriar was similarly granted free roam of the camp. What that meant for today? The simple comfort of quiet time to herself. She loved her kits, but it was nice to have a moment where she wasn’t flooded with the concern of their every little move. After an excruciating few moons of having absolutely nothing to do and being forced to lounge around, it had finally once more become a treat for the queen. As she went to pick up a meal from the fresh kill pile, she noticed Fawnheart lounging on the rocks. That seemed so comfortable. Quickly nicking a mouse for her meal, she leapt up onto a nearby spot to share the pleasure of basking in the sun with the warrior. “This is the perfect spot to unwind, isn’t it?,” she purred stretching out her limbs before starting to delicately pull apart the mouse. “A great lounging spot in the sun, just by the fresh kill if you get hungry - I wish I could thank whichever cat decided we’d live here!””It was funny, she felt as if she’d never seen as much of Fawnheart as a warrior as she did when she became a queen. Quiet and considerate, they were nice to be around, so she’d made up her mind that she wouldn’t let him simply disappear once they went back to sharing a den. This was the process for that. Honestly, the cozy feeling of the midday sun was just like curling up with his littermates back when they were still small enough to do so. Fuzzy and warm in all the best ways. Without knowing, without realizing, he could almost just let his eyes slip shut...
Movement caught his attention, paws shifting with an instant itch to make room for whatever clanmate had decided to take a load off. They quickly discovered, however, that this was not a necessary case. Beside him now was Rookbriar, ever the restless queen, her white spots glowing bright in the day's bloom like dancing glimmers across a pond. That itchy feeling seeped out of Fawnheart's paws as he recognized her, and moreover, recognized the outward friendliness in her approach. He could hardly afford to kill the mood now, and he didn't- Instead offering her a slow, kind blink in response. "Sunclan's ingenuity seems to have lasted since our foundation," he mewed with a sheepish smile, shifting his limbs beneath him. "We're lucky indeed."
As he stilled his movements, his fur began to reheat once more, his eyes becoming content slits in the process. The scent of the mouse meat was homey, the greenleaf was warm, and the forest was thriving with bustling prey and beautiful summer flowers. Today was a blessed one, indeed. Slow and sluggish, his head nodded slightly, just barely fighting the urge to tuck his nose into his chest fluff like he were tucked into bed already- it'd be an embarrassing way to get caught. Rather, to refocus, he widened his gaze once more to peek at the queen. "It's nice to see you out of the nursery, Rookbriar. The kittens, too. It feels livelier already, seeing them around." Just talking about it, Fawnheart's creamy tail curled slightly in undisguised fondness, ever the bleeding heart for the clan's youngest (and cutest) members.

✧ ♬♩♡ ♪♩ Rookbriar ♩♪ ♡♩♬ ✧ “Doesn't it?,” she chirped, her smile of maternal pride impossible to hide. “I'm so excited to see them out and about like this, though I hope they won't be any trouble for the other cats - I know not everyone is as fond of kits as I am. I think they're sweet kits, though! I may be biased, though.” Dramatically, she stretched her legs once more out before her and gave her pelt a shake as if settling once more into her coat and the sun's warmth. “Of course, I'm glad to get out of the nursery too - it gets sort of boring just hanging around the nursery all the time. If I had to wait any longer until kitting, I might've forgotten I had legs,” she joked. Rookbriar watched Fawnheart's personal battle with sleep, though it could only make her think about just how much cuddling kits entailed. It was one of her favorite parts after playing with her kits - a big fan of badger rides - and she thought idly to herself that Fawnheart would likely do well raising kits. Huh. “Do you dream of having kits some day?”She wasn't sure if it was an intrusive question or an uncomfortable one, but the fondness in Fawnheart brought out her own fondness - and curiosity. She eyed the fresh-kill pile, taking a brief moment to wonder if they might want something to eat. The pile was so close though, and yet... “Oh, I don't mean to be rude! Are you hungry? I can grab you something to eat really quick, if you'd like!” She + Single + Lesbian + Queen

Suddenly, it wasn't just the daylight warming his pelt. "O-Oh! Um.." It'd take a serious unstoppable force to get the warrior to shift off his rock now, but the embarrassed angle of his ears came close. Luckily, after Rookbriar's immediate question, she seemed sidetracked by the prospect of prey. Although the mouse at her paws did smell awfully good, Fawnheart lowered his muzzle quickly- "That's awfully nice of you.. It's okay, though! I'll eat after the later patrols return, and... well, you and Amaris should have your pick of the options."
Beneath his underbelly, the patched cat kneaded idly at the stone, warding off the flustered feeling in their stomach that currently took up any void hunger would have left. It was true what he'd said; Seeing Rookbriar's new litter seemed to brighten up the camp, and he certainly looked forward to getting to know them as they got older. Still, thinking about rearing any kittens of their own... raised quite a few questions alongside it. Nitty gritty details with whom's and how's in mind. Feeling their tail prickle a little, he looked back at the queen, wondering not for the first time how anycat could ever prepare for such a big life change. He supposed, hearing her comment about the nursery, that it must come with its benefits and sacrifices like any life choice.
"Mm.." The kneading of their paws slowed as contemplation took over, spurred by the ever present comfort of the cozy atmosphere. "It won't be long until you're back on patrol, I imagine. Time passes so quickly... It can be hard to think far ahead."
It's the most of an answer they can give without the jitters taking back over. I wouldn't want to be too presumptuous, thinking exclusively about kittens just because Rookbriar's had some... As much as he liked nursery-talk, Fawnheart knew that she'd likely been up to her ears in it since she moved dens. If the other was out here to have a break from that very thing, he probably shouldn't start talking about things he didn't have expertise in. Not in front of a real parent, anyway! There's so much I don't know.

✧ ♬♩♡ ♪♩ Rookbriar ♩♪ ♡♩♬ ✧ “Oh, that's sweet of you!,” she mused as Fawnheart answered. She took a few bites of her mouse, listening as he discussed the future and patrols... He was right, of course, but the thought surprised her, puling her face quickly back up away from her mouse. “Oh! You're right! I've got to say I'm excited for when I can return to hunting and such, it'll be good to feel like I'm not just lounging around all day! Of course, I love spending time with my kits - I think I'll cry when they become apprentices - but I miss patrols!”She cast her eyes over to the camp's entrance. “I think my favorite patrols were morning border patrols,” she said, almost distantly. “I always want to say hunting patrols are the best, but there's something special about just bonding with your Clanmates and enjoying the morning air. I like the peaceful days in new-leaf where the most eventful thing is finding rabbit kits and deciding to hunt bluebirds so that we feel like we've done something useful for the day.” The wistful tone of her voice finally seemed to register to her, and she gave a trill of amusement. “Oh! Sorry for rambling like that, I make it sound like it's been an eternity since I did that! Do you enjoy patrols at all?” She + Single + Lesbian + Queen

For a moment there, Rookbriar seemed to disappear, lost in the spring greenery and blue feathers as she described them to the other. Fawnheart, for all their haziness, couldn't help but be pulled in the same way- While he'd seen his fair share of new-leafs, there was something about the way the queen described it that seemed to repaint it for him, reshape his own image of everything he thought he'd known. Without realizing it, their head had lifted from their paws, listening wide-eyed to the point's recollection.
All too soon, the dream seemed to end in the same instant it began. As Rookbriar snapped out of her memories, and Fawnheart blinked out of their own trance. Caught up in the lingering throes of her passion, he lowered his gaze shyly- he'd gotten a little sucked in, too. "W-When you put it that way, it... It sounds so special." Their voice faltered as the words came so readily. They studied the ground as their thoughts slowly crystallized into comprehension, his mew falling quiet, pensive. "I think... it's probably easy to take those things for granted. I never really thought to enjoy them. Oh-"
Startling somewhat, he looked up again, almost urgent. "That's not to say I don't appreciate them! Patrols, I mean. They're important... duties are important for every cat to fulfill." Then, embarrassed by his own outburst, their eyes dropped back to a reliable post at the fuzzy edge where his fur met the rocks, white on grey like a cloudy day. Nonetheless, the heat in his ears graciously reminded him that the sun was far from hidden for the time being. Or... maybe it was a different sort of heat. The spreading warmth seemed to confirm his hypothesis, making him itch all over. "I guess I've just never had the perspective to value them. But... that just shows what a good warrior you are, Rookbriar. To appreciate the little things like that. It's, um.. I admire that."
Another pause. "..I'm really happy you'll be able to do the things you love again. Your kits will have a really good role model, and then... Maybe you can all go out in the morning together, and they'll get to share those things with you, too." It was half speculation at that point, but Fawnheart had visibly softened with the flow of the conversation, lulled into sincerity with the genuine fervor his clanmate seemed to have for warrior staples. Something as predictable as a dew drops on the dawn's grass, as regular as every day's beginning, could be made into something so meaningful through the right eyes. It was the kind of spirit that deserved equal sincerity.
It occurred to him, very, very late, that he probably got a bit sidetracked. Flustered, an apology rose in their throat, but died before it could reach their tongue- Talking even more would just set him on another mini ramble. Instead, they studied the rock face as hard as they could, the slight motions of a nod rocking their head as if to affirm what he had said one final time.

✧ ♬♩♡ ♪♩ Rookbriar ♩♪ ♡♩♬ ✧ “Aw, that's sweet!,” she chirped, extending a paw to make a playful swipe for Fawnheart's fur. “That's the fun of Clan life though, isn't it? We're all united under our Clan despite how different our perspectives are! Maybe next patrol you go on you can find the little things you enjoy about it! Greenleaf is full of little joys, like going fishing when the sun makes everything else too hot to do.”She stretched with contemplation, flexing each toe on her forepaws as she thought things through. Fawnheart and his brothers were an interesting trio indeed. She liked Tinyleaf - not that she really disliked any cats - but Turtlefang and Fawnheart both seemed to be more distant, though possibly for opposite reasons. Was it stressful to have a brother who got along with cats so easily? She made a mental note to pay close attention to how her kits interacted, among each other, with her, and with their Clanmates, before she returned her focus to the warrior before her. “In a few moons, I'll gladly go on a patrol with you! Even if it's an informal one, I'm sure we'll have fun,” she purred. “What do you enjoy, though? There's got to be something you enjoy doing to pass the time, right? ”She froze, feeling like that might've been interrogative, and brushed a paw over her face in embarrassment. “I mean! If not, I'm sure you'll find something. The world has so much to offer, you know?” She + Single + Lesbian + Queen

He couldn't help but flinch a little at the swipe, blinking after the retreat of a dark paw before he'd even fully processed it. Yet... once it did register, the whisk of air from the motion lingering like a ghost on his pelt, Fawnheart felt awash in relief. They had a tendency of getting carried away every so often, lost in sentimentality, and it was good to see that it didn't deter his clanmate from treating him kindly. Playfully, even! With the fizz of happiness starting to bubble in his chest, he ducked his head with a small smile.
What Rookbriar said was true, too. After talking today, he didn't think he'd go another walk through the woods without stopping to take it all in. Was this what it meant to be interconnected? To learn from others, and take those pieces of knowledge with you for the rest of your life? Although he didn't know how long today might stay in someone else's memory, he made a secret vow to protect what he'd learned in his subconscious. Hearing her invitation, it seemed he'd have plenty of opportunity to put his newfound appreciation to practice. It felt nice to be like part of something all of a sudden, and they couldn't help but knead a little into the smooth rock at their belly, content with this rare instance of satisfaction.
The buzz of belonging started to fade as Fawnheart was distracted with a new question, this time about their hobbies. "Oh..." Glancing at the queen, they couldn't help but notice she seemed a little unsure of herself for asking. Worried now that they'd somehow caused a hiccup in the conversation, the warrior made a point of finding a proper answer, if only to reclaim Rookbriar's easy-going attitude once more. "Hmm.. I like... fixing things. Like the dens, or helping Vinedapple organize his supplies... or helping the apprentice's if they get confused with their duties... Although they don't often want to listen. But, most often I spend time with my family." A bit emboldened from their success thus far, they offered a rare personal example, tone softening; "It's silly, but sometimes it's fun to play spar after all the patrols are in for the day. Out in the training hollow. I'm not very fierce or anything, but I feel like I can make believe when we're just messing around without any real enemies. I mostly let them win, though. Or, I did... It's not so often anymore."

While Rookbriar felt reassured that she hadn't scared him off, she briefly wondered if she should acknowledge that. It felt rude not to, but it also felt... personal. With a few more playful swipes at the air between them, she purred with the challenge one might expect from a play fight. “Well, if your brothers don't take up too much of your time, maybe I'll give it a shot with you. I might even let you win,” she declared in a humorous mew. “Though I do have to warn you, I am very experienced, including in the realm of handling a group attack. I face five fierce cats ambushing me on a daily basis, my skills may be unparalleled.”The claim was, of course, in good humor and only helped make her mood even better. More than anything, she didn't want for Fawnheart to feel lonely. She wasn't a replacement for family. Rather, Rookbriar wanted to show them the sort of friends they could have in the Clan. That, and she always enjoyed making a new friend and spending time with her Clanmates. A win-win situation. She + Single + Lesbian + Queen

"Oh my!" Fawnheart's eyes widened a fraction with Rookbriar's swipes, ducking their head in a gentle dodge from the little whooshes of air delivered by the pummeling of his clanmate's paws. Her enthusiasm was contagious, lighting a happy gleam in the other's green gaze as her playfulness sparked his own. "If that's the case, I ought not to challenge you.. it may break my spirit entirely to face someone with the strength of the stars. I'd be so ashamed..."
They hang their muzzle in mock submission, although it doesn't take a lot of pretending- compliance has always come naturally to him, and it comes just as easily now in the sorrowful droop of his whiskers. "..but then again, a mother's wrath is the strongest force of all. I suppose I shouldn't punish myself too readily.. it'd be an inevitable loss on my part."
Having cycled out of his pseudo-humility, Fawnheart's posture drifted back once more to its idling state, dropping the veil of grief as quiet amusement settled back across his patchy pelt. Wanting to respond to Rookbriar's initial sincerity, he thought hard for a good transition, kneading idly at their resting stone with a gentle ebb and flow, a rhythm of fuzzy white fur lapping across a mineral shore. He couldn't help but focus in on it, shyness creeping back in to fill the space that playful pretend had just inhabited. "I'm happy to have talked to you, too. So I'd take any loss with honor. You're a good warrior, Rookbriar. Um- Thank you for being so nice..."

✧ ♬♩♡ ♪♩ Rookbriar ♩♪ ♡♩♬ ✧ She laughed along as Fawnheart continued with her antics, watching in good humor - and a bit of pride, truth be told - as he continued his own jokes. His submission seemed so second nature that for a split second she worried, but he quickly returned to a casual position and she was content with how well things were going. Their last words, however, were much more sincere and shy, surprising her and making her curled ears perk up. They were thanking her? She would hear none of it, and she made a point of this by venturing into his space so that she could bump her shoulder to theirs. “Oh, Fawnheart! You don't have to thank me for being nice - it's just what you deserve!” She took a brief pause for a thought, then bumped her ear against his shoulder playfully. “I do, however, take gratitude in the form of friendship and promises of doing fun things,” she declared with an equal level of humor and sincerity. They'd fallen into her master plan... though the subtlety was gone now, she supposed, but there wasn't anything wrong with wanting to be friends with a cat. “Oh- but you do have to actually follow through on those promises, I suppose, maybe I didn't think that through all too well,” she mused, reflecting on her words. Oh well, Rookbriar was having fun and Fawnheart seemed to be having fun, too. In the end, that was the priority for her. It was always a good day when one made a friend, she felt, especially when one could make their friend happy. Thinking about how she felt, just sharing this moment with another cat, she'd already forgotten about her fumbling of words. Truly, she was not one to hold onto things like that. Most of the time, Fawnheart felt out of place without his brothers around, especially Tinyleaf. Close in appearance and heart, the two were oftentimes inseparable, sharing a nest and as many duties as they could. But no warrior could stay sewn to another's side 24/7. Sometimes, the two just wouldn't be able to spend the day together, and Fawnheart would find himself waiting primarily for his brother to come back to camp so that they might reform their team once again. Laying here with Rookbriar... that usual emptiness wasn't so gaping. The absence by his side, instead, was filled by a new cat, and rather than feeling traitorous, it was a simple comfort. An easy rapport. It helped that she was so cheerful and engaging, not unlike the cat he was waiting for, but she had a natural draw in her own right.
Fawnheart thought, just a little bit, that maybe he really was part of the friendship she mentioned. But if that were so, then how could it be proved? With a sincere blink, they tilted their head inquiringly. "Promises..? Like a real fight?" They'd never heard of a relationship being officiated by a match before, but it did seem like the sort of thing that fit into warrior culture. Or maybe there was some other fun thing entirely that could serve as repayment. "What sort of promise should I make, then, if I'm going to offer my gratitude? Or.. what sort of thing would you like to do? Even if not right now."
It may not be until after the kits had become apprentices that Rookbriar could make good on her talk of play fighting and morning patrols, but whenever it may be the case, the warrior found themselves wanting to plan ahead for it if only to show they were just as genuine about following through with the plans as the queen was about making them.

Promises were not things to be thrown around lightly, at least to Rookbriar. If she made a promise, she would see it through - she believed that to be the case for Fawnheart, too. They didn't seem like the cat to avoid something they said he'd do, even if it wasn't a formal promise. Her ears twitched as she thought, swaying to a rhythm of their own choosing. Just for a couple of seconds, really, but when a cat's in their own head it's hard to not feel like every move is an eternity. “Hey, you don't really have to repay me in any way for friendship! That's not how it works, but I really would love to do that play spar with you!” Rookbriar dropped into a pouncing pose, wiggling with enthusiasm and keeping her characteristic playful grin on her face. It may as well be a fixed part of her features at this rate. “I'm ready to go at any given moment! Even just for a stroll - I probably need to get out of the camp sometime, anyway. It'd be good to go with someone who hasn't been wasting away in the nursery!”She rolled over to look at him from a new angle - not for any particular reason, she just had never been good at staying still. Ever. “If you actually ever need anything, though, I am your friend - you can count on me, okay? Just ask,” she added gently, stretching out her extra-toed forepaws. “I might even let you in on some of my battle secrets sometime.”There, good energy maintained. She + Single + Lesbian + Queen
