HONEYFLARE This was possibly a very stupid idea - he knew his mother would let him know what she thought of it, if or when she ever found out about it. That didn’t matter, though. Anxiety made his coat prickle, but his vow hung in his mind like the clouds before a storm. He’d promised to protect the Clan, to have their best interest at heart.
That’s what he’d do, whether they understood that or not.
He shook out his fur, trying to rid it of the heavy weight the river added as he planned his next move. Working up the nerve to cross the border was a big task all in of itself. MoonClan would not take well to SunClan scent in their territory. At least, he didn’t think they would. He was sure SunClan would be livid to smell MoonClan in their territory. It also wasn’t as if he knew where to go to find MoonClan to begin with. Even if he did know where their camp was, he was sure he’d only get himself killed or kidnapped. Possibly both.
His only real option was to wander in hopes that he wouldn’t be attacked on sight. Good thing he’d eaten before he left. “MoonClan?,” he called out, venturing away from the water, fur now prickling with embarrassment on top of the anxiety. Yes, they’d all respond to MoonClan, good job. “I’m here to talk, I promise I don’t mean any harm!”
He wandered into the unfamiliar forest, wincing slightly at the thought of the prey that talking like that would scare off. It was his only idea on how to not seem like he was sneaking around, though, as stupid as it made him felt. He didn’t even know if any cats had noticed him, and yet, Honeyflare couldn’t help but feel like a mouse surrounded by a patrol. |

As soon as Mosstumble heard Honeylare's voice, they rolled their eyes. There was no way this cat was serious. Well, at least I found him and not some cat like Daisyfire. He gets to keep his coat thank to me.
Mosstumble quickly made their way to Honeyflare, which wasn't difficult considering how his bright pelt stood out like, well, a flare. "What are you doing here," they demanded, a look on their face that screamed 'I'm fed up with all of this.' "With everything going on right now, you just waltz on over? You couldn't even wait by the moon pond, or across the river, or anywhere else?" Mosstumble could feel their irration building, and they knew that they were being unfair towards Honeyflare. It didn't take away the prickle from their pelt, but the feeling lead them to take a deep breath and reset.
"Okay, okay," they meowed, much more calmly this time. "You wouldn't come over here for no good reason. You're not Lightpaw. What's going on?" |

Those were a lot of questions. Seeing them take a breath, though, he regained his posture and smoothed out his coat - until their much calmer voice hit his ears. This was not the time, and yet, hearing their final question, he did something incredibly stupid. He smiled and laughed, as if they’d told a reasonable joke. This was a bad start. “You really only need to know him for a few moments to gather that from him, huh? I don’t know if having a MoonClan reputation is good for him,” he mused, before shaking that out of his mind. “Right, okay, I’m sorry, you’re right, this was a dumb move. I didn’t have a plan and your plans are uh- better. Than this one. Obviously. But I am here for something important!” His skin prickled uncomfortably under his pelt as he spoke, tension building quickly once the wave of emotion Mosstumble had sent him on had faded. “I want to talk about peace between our Clans. I don’t know what the leaders have in mind, or the deputies or medicine cats, but to be honest with you? I don’t think it matters. Every cat’s voice is important if we want to save our Clans - and so I’m here, all by myself, to plead the cats of MoonClan to make peace with me. For all of our sakes - your Clan and mine.” The fact that they had only ambushed him with their metaphorical fangs rather than their literal ones was a good sign to him, but with a temper like that, he worried that he’d run into the wrong MoonClan cat. He’d remain steadfast either way, settling his face and posture into adamant sincerity. If their roles were switched, he knew he might seem like the wrong cat to run into too. |

After a long moment of watching in stunned silence, Needlesong ducked out of his little spot behind a few bushes with a hesitant, "... What's going on here exactly? You're damn lucky the patrols are elsewhere right now." He huffed, giving a concerned look to each of the cats in turn.
After another moment of thought, he stepped out further and sat down, giving the air a quick sniff to confirm that nobody else was near. Once he was satisfied with the results, he looked at the other two again, "care to explain?"

Mosstumble shared in a laugh over the Lightpaw comment. That tom wouldn't know what was good for him i it hit him in the face. As Honeyflare continued, they nodded their head to show they agreed; their plans were a lot better than this one.
"Well, I can say I agree with you there. We all need to work to come to a solution. I've got no problem working with you, but I can't speak for the rest of my Clanmates. Some of the older ones..." They trailed off, thinking of Daisyfire in particular. But, as if on cue, another warrior appeared. Mosstumble turned around when they heard Needlesong's voice. Uh-oh.
Mosstumble looked back at Honeyflare, searching for something to say to Needlesong. When they didn't find anything with the tom, they responded. "Nothing! Really. I, uh, found Honeyflare here while on a walk. I think he just got lost. Honest mistake, really!" |

Older cats in MoonClan being more defiant was something he was prepared for. He could only imagine the fighting he and his mother would have if she found out. They were one of many SunClan fights he'd have if he was caught. Then another warrior came. He'd scanned Mosstumble, desperate to figure out if they knew which category the newcomer fit into. Seeing only panic, that meant he had to come up with an excuse, something he was floundering spectacularly at. Fortunately, Mosstumble was here. Yeah, they were much better at this sort of thing than he was. How fortunate, then, that they'd come across each other. With their excuse, he nodded rapidly, taking a few steps backward. “That's right! They were just telling me which way I should go to get back, so I'll just- do that. Sorry, and thank you again for the instructions! I don't want to cause any trouble.” He kept a lowered position in hopes of showing he bore no ill will, hesitating to back up any further in case the warrior had plans to defend the territory. Understandably, maybe, but fighting like this would only ruin his goal. He'd just have to be ready to go to a full sprint the moment it looked like he'd be under attack. |

Needlesong watched the two for a long moment before sighing, "Mosstumble, you are terrible at lying under pressure. I'd hate to be in your situation and face someone more uptight than me."
It glanced between the two of them again, frowning, "if you two don't tell me what exactly is going on here, I'm going to be notifying Pansystar of this. I might still if this seems like something she should know of, but if you tell me the truth you'll at least have a chance of this staying secret."

He ducked his head apologetically, keeping eye contact with it. “I’m sorry, it’s my fault. I wanted to talk to MoonClan cats to find peace, and Mosstumble found me. They really were sending me back, though, I didn’t have a good plan for this. They didn’t do anything wrong. If MoonClan cats don’t want to discuss peace, I can just leave. I wouldn’t want to start a fight.” While the sensation of defeat stung, and while he was speaking mostly genuinely, it dawn on Honeyflare that he would not simply stop at this. He’d just have to be smarter about it, like Mosstumble had suggested. Hopefully, they’d understand that this wasn’t really the end, and Needlesong would believe that he wouldn’t try again. After all, it wasn’t like him to give up just because it had upset someone else. That, and he hoped that the honesty and attempt of resolution would coax the warrior onto their side. It had offered a chance of secrecy, and in this case… secrecy was a sort of compliance. Something in him stirred with that hope. Then again, it might look bad that he would be so passive. Hm. Not just arguing his way through life was a lot harder than he thought. |

Mosstumble looked at Honeyflare, bewilderment in their green eyes as the other feline gave up their secret so easily. At least he didn't throw me under the bus, they commented to themself, looking back to Needlesong. How would it react to the news? He was normally so mellow. Mosstumble couldn't imagine they'd be in any trouble.
Honeyflare, on the other paw. With a mother like his, Mosstumble couldn't imagine he'd have both ears intact the next time they met. Next time. There would be a next time, and they'd go longer than a couple heartbeats without being caught.
"Seriously," Mosstumble added, maintaining eye contact with Needlesong. "You showed up not long after I did. There's nothing to worry about." |

Needlesong considered what he heard carefully a moment, sitting down as he thought. “Now, I do think you’re onto something there, though this really isn’t the way to go about it. Pansystar has been… Tense. MoonClan in general has been tense about the news for various reasons. I think a small-scale peace group could be good for easing us into the merge.”
He glanced over at the two, “scheduling is key. Find a nice patch of nice, safe neutral territory and meet up during the night - moonhigh would probably be the least risky - to discuss news, harmful rumors, and the like.” He let out a small laugh, “suppose I’ll have to join the effort at this rate. I’m sure I can find a few more cats that might be interested.” |

That nudged the movement back into his mind. A relief that was almost foreign to him washed through his body, sighing with the sensation. Okay, okay, that made two MoonClan cats, and possibly more on the way, that meant... he'd have to find SunClan cats. That sounded more daunting. How to gauge which of his Clanmates would be willing to go behind Beestar's back? How to not get kicked out of his own home...? Sitting down with the weight of thought, Honeyflare tilted his head. “Well, if that's the case... we'll have to figure out when to meet. Obviously, we can't do it on Gathering nights, and I feel like we might need to meet more often than once every moon. On the half moon, maybe?” He glanced between the two pairs of green eyes, trying to gauge a reaction. It seemed Mosstumble wasn't one to hold back their opinion, and Needlesong had his own suggestions so... well, it might actually work out! |

Mosstumvle felt their their jaw was going to fall on the ground. This was Needlesong talking, right? They weren't just dreaming it. Honeyflare voiced their surprise exactly. But then he was all business, which Mosstumble respected.
"I'm not sure we should go on the half-moon. Isn't that when medicine cats are scheduled to meet?" They looked between Needlesong and Honeyflare, hoping one of them could confrim or deny their worries. "Maybe we could meet on the new moon? |

“I’m not too sure, I never really kept up with the schedule, I’ll admit. But new-moons could definitely work.” Needlesong mused, “perhaps a second meeting between the half- and full moon as well? A lot can happen in a halfmoon and we’d want everyone to stay relatively updated.”
While talking, he was already thinking of who in Moonclan might be interested, yet not too busy to actually meet up. He could probably rope in an apprentice or three, given some time. |

If we’re meeting twice a moon, then it might make it easiest to meet in the quarter moon before the full moon’s Gathering and the crescent moon right before the new-moon. That way the rise and fall line up.” That made… sense, right? He hoped it did. “I’d suggest every quarter moon, but it might be easier to get caught if we’re sneaking out four times each moon.” |
