Dusk was advancing quickly--the sun shut out earlier at camp than it did in the rest of the territory as a result of the towering mountains. The black tom slipped out of camp, glancing over his shoulders to make sure that there were no wandering eyes on him. He raised his head and inhaled, testing the air for unwanted scents before continuing once he was sure that he was alone. Long shadows from the setting sun made eerie shapes on the path, but they offered him plenty of cover as he crept forward.
His golden eyes and the sliver of white fur on the sides of his head were the only things visible on the fluffy tom as he drew near to the river. Obliquitydream preferred being alone. The clan was so busy. It was nearly too much for him to handle most days. He preferred the silence where he could hear everything in the world around him--crickets singing, owls sounding off as they hunted mice, and the running water of the stream as his tongue lapped at the icy current that was fresh from the mountains.
No voices. No duties. Nothing but himself and the slowly darkening sky. It was only during these moments that he could sneak in at the end of his days where he truly felt at peace with himself and his place. Sometimes it felt like StarClan had no purpose for him and the warrior code was outdated. Here, there were no expectations; he thought of running away quite often.

｡ₓ ू ₒ ु ˚ Lionshine ˚ ू ₒ ु ₓ｡ Hearing the approach of another cat, Lionshine froze in his hiding spot in an abandoned badger den, nestled among the tall grass. He debated - was it better to wait and hope the other warrior didn’t notice him, or reveal himself and get it over with? It seemed obvious that he, like Lionshine, had chosen this spot for the seclusion and to be one with his thoughts. Maybe it was okay, then? So long as there wasn’t any conversation, they could both go about their intentions in peaceful bliss, right? Except, of course, now there was no peace with the threat of getting caught and seeming as if he was spying on his own Clanmate. Normally quite gregarious, it had never really struck Lionshine just how hard it was to be alone when you wanted to be. With some reluctance, he pried himself out of his comfortable little hole and wordlessly took a few sips of the cool water. Her ears burned with the feeling of awkwardness, and she simply gave Obliquitydream a nod of acknowledgement whilst she tried to figure out a new place to head to resume having space to think. In the meantime, Lionshine would just… sit there. Looking away from the other tom while she had her internalized debate as to whether it would be best to just go back to camp, or find a new little place to hide. So much for the peace of the night. |

The rustling shrubbery startled the tom, making him choke slightly on his sip of water and causing his fur to bristle. He relaxed after realizing that it was only another wandering clanmate that was seeking the solitude of this place. He tipped his head in return to the other cat's greeting. It seemed like the peaceful night was going to have to wait.
Obliquitydream seemed to visibly sink at that realization. This was no longer his space and there were only two options: leave or share the space. Neither of those choices held any real appeal to him. With a sigh, he decided to figure out the situation, "Were you out here wanting to be alone also?" He asked.

｡ₓ ू ₒ ु ˚ Lionshine ˚ ू ₒ ु ₓ｡ As the other tom spoke, Lionshine was struck with a horrifying realization that he didn’t actually know this cat. “Yes,” he answered cautiously, taking the opportunity to smell the air. The cool night air froze his blood as he realized just which side of the river he was on. Oh no. He got up quickly, dipping her paws into the water tentatively, thankful that the night’s weather hadn’t gotten any less peaceful. The river would be safe to cross, probably. “Sorry about that, the spot is yours.”Her head spun with confusion, and paused enough for him to realize just what had happened. Would that be convincing to a SunClan cat, though? Or had he just landed himself in far more trouble than he had bargained for when he went out for a seemingly relaxing swim? |

"Oh, I was going to say that we could share this space. I mean, you seem unbothersome. Don't feel like you have to leave. There is plenty of room here for the both of us," he stated matter-of-factually. "I don't believe we have met." He noticed that the other cat appeared uncomfortable as if they would dart off at any given moment. "I am Obliquitydream."
He didn't participate enough within the clan to know everyone these days. He kept to himself and only did as was requested of him. The rest of the time was spent alone enjoying the silence and serenity that only nature could provide. Maybe one other wouldn't be so bad?

｡ₓ ू ₒ ु ˚ Lionshine ˚ ू ₒ ु ₓ｡ Hesitating, she returned to a spot on the shore a tail length away from the new cat - Obliquitydream - and groomed out some of the water that had infiltrated her coat. “I’m Lionshine,” he introduced, with a respectful dip of his head. As manners seemed to catch up to him, Lionshine gestured at the area with an odd-toed paw. “Thank you for sharing the peace - it’s lovely here, isn’t it? The riverside offers a special sort of calm.”He took a refreshing deep breath as if establishing his point, gazing out at the world around them. Yeah, it wouldn’t hurt to stick around for a bit. It wasn’t like he was supposed to be doing something right now anyway. |

He gave a welcoming flick of his tail. "Well, it is nice to make your acquaintance, Lionshine."It was much easier to talk now that they were only a tail length or so apart from one another. "Indeed it does. I've been coming here for as long as I can remember. It's always drawn me here. It's the only place where I can feel like my burdens are lifted from my shoulders."
He cut his eyes over to the other cat, "So, what brings you here? How does the river compel you?"

It feels like a place where the stresses of daily life don't exist, I suppose, so that, at least for a little, I can relax. A place I don't have to worry about my racing thoughts, just for a moment.” It wasn't as if he wanted to run away from her problems, per se, but she did enjoy feeling briefly safe from them. “Running isn't the answer, of course, but I always feel like I can return to camp with a fresher mind. I suppose it helps me be a better warrior,” he added, letting his eyes drift off in the direction of the river's flow. “I sometimes wonder just where this river leads, but I suppose that isn't terribly important. What do you think?” |
