Mornign border patrols were probably the worst thing ever, and this morning was no different. Mosstumble has been sent to patrol with a couple of apprentices. It seemed pointless. After everything that was annmounced at the gathering, why did they need to mark their borders anymore anyway? They'd end up being one big happy Clan.
Mosstumble wasn't a fan of all the fighting between SunClan and MoonClan, but they couldn't imagine actaully being the same Clan. The two always seemed so different. Plus, he'd have to listen to Beestar ansd she did not seem like a nice cat to be around.
They were so in their own head worrying about it that they almost missed the flash of light by the river. They raised their head and trotted over to its banks, green eyes peeled for whatever could've caused it. After mulling around the shore for a bit, Mosstumble found a small rock. It was round and had a smooth surface, almost like it was polished by the river and was somewhat translucent. They rolled it around with their paw and noticed the light catch it again.

Surgepaw hissed and shoved his sister away with a paw, tail lashing. "Splashpaw, knock it off! You're going to get us in trouble again, and I don't want to have to sit up and help guard camp all night again or take fresh-kill to the elders like last time!"
He loved his sister, but she was so troublesome, though, he was sure that she'd say the same thing about him. Surgepaw startled at the call from the older cat and bounded over before his sister could bounce back from her little tumble that he'd given her.
His green eyes studied the shiny little stone beneath the cat's paw for a long moment, curiosity piquing. "What is that?" |

Splashpaw squealed with a laugh as her brother shoved her away. She rolled to her feet and scampered over, radiating with high energy. Her seafoam colored eyes grew round in awe at the glistening, translucent stone and gasped. "I-it's so beautiful!" She shrieked. Her brother's ears went back as he cuffed her over the ear in agitation.
"OW SURGEPAW! That hurt!"
He sniffed, "Stop being annoying, Splashpaw."
The she-cat huffed indignantly and moved onto the other side of Mosstumble so that they were between she and her brother. |

Mosstumble was happy that their discovery has distracted the two pesky apprentices from their bickering. There's no way I was that bad, they thought to themself. If Foamfur wanted to act like Mosstumble had been a pain to deal with (and truthfully they had been), he'd probably rip his own fur out having to deal with these two. "I think it's some sort of crystal. Y'know, special rocks and whatnot," they responded, doing their best to keep their irritation out of their voice. "It's awful pretty. You think any cat back at camp would like it?"In a moment of their own genius, Mosstumble hatched an idea. "What if we take a little break from our patrol and see if we can find some more?" They grey and white warrior wanted to give the two siblings the benefit of the doubt with everything. Maybe they were just bored on patrol and that's all the fighting was about. With any luck, this would put them in a better mood. //ic opinions, i love these two so far!  |

Splashpaw gasped at the suggestion. "Can we? I bet the nursery would love them or the elders!" It wasn't often that she got to have fun on patrols. Especially not with her brother always pestering her with his endless nagging. He never let her have any fun, but wasn't that the point of being alive and young? One day soon, they were going to be warriors and the fun would be over. They'd never get the chance to live this freely again. Surgepaw just didn't see things in the same light she did. It seemed that Mosstumble appreciated special moments like this--moments that would never be forget. Intimate moments for the mind that only the three of them here today would ever experience or understand in its entirety.

Surgepaw narrowed his eyes at his sister's enthusiasm, but he reluctantly had to agree with her. Once the little she-cat made up her mind, she was making the decision for the both of them. She could be so bossy and selfish sometimes. She never asked what anyone else wanted and always spoke for all. He wondered what made her so stubborn. Neither of their parents had been bold like her. They'd been good warriors--the stick to themselves and their duties types. They had seemed more like robots or something else that wasn't truly living.

Mosstumble nodded. "We can." That was one of the many perks to being a warrior; Mosstumble was able to decide these things for themself. They likely didn't deserve to be making these calls, espeiclally since they earned their warrior name by the skin of their teeth. With no other warriors around to tell them no, Mosstumble intended to take advantage of those perks.
They shot a glance at Surgepaw, who was now all quiet. "What do you think, Surge? We've got time to kill, so I say why not." They threw in their own opinion, hoping to let Surgepaw know that this side mission was not optional in the slightest. |

Splashpaw squealed in delight at the older cat's agreement. Before Mosstumble or Surgepaw could say another word, she was already splashing around at the water's edge, using her paws to roll around the stones. "I'm going to find the prettiest stones for the dens!"She tossed over her shoulder before shoving her face into the crisp water.

Surgepaw nodded in response to Mosstumble. "If you say so..."He was reluctant, but he started for the water as well, though with much more caution than his sibling. It was then that he noticed what she was doing. "Splashpaw! Careful! Don't go too far into the water! The current could sweep you away. It looks bad today."Once again he found himself frustrated by his sister's mouse-brained tendencies. Sometimes he wondered if she'd ever live long enough to be a warrior. Of course he loved her, but she didn't have a thought going on inside of that cute little head of hers. He'd always have to look out for her and keep her in check.

Mosstumble smiled as the apprentices, Splashpaw more than Surgepaw, began searching for the stones. Lighten up," they told Surgepaw. "I've never met a MoonClan warrior afraid of the water." Pausing a moment, they remembered Foxlily and Pantherpaw's shared fear of water. "Medicine cats on the other paw, they seem to be a different story."
Mosstubmle shrugged off Surgepaws concerns and began to pad over to Splashpaw, happy to help the more enthusiastic apprentice in her search. Surgepaw could be a wet log all he wanted. |
