✧・゚: *✧・゚:* Shrikepaw *:・゚✧*:・゚✧ There had been a lot of chaos during the sudden floods that had overtaken their previous camp. Apparently, according to her mom anyway, these floods were normal, just not at the time they'd arrived this year. With everyone scrambling, the young apprentice's mentor hadn't had much time to keep an eye on her lately, which was more then fine by her. With everyone's focus on the new camp, Shrikepaw found it far easier to slide out of said camp on her own and begin exploring the woods surrounding them. White-tipped forepaws sank softly into layers of pine needles, perfect conditions for stalking prey (which she was definitely an expert at). The young tabby opened her jaws, inhaling deeply to taste the humid air. I think. . . Mouse? Vole? Some rodent, she was pretty sure, was nearby. Shrikepaw dropped into a low crouch, ears pricked forward and olive-green gaze sweeping the forest floor. She held her breath for a moment, and to her delight a soft swish in the undergrowth could be heard. Right there. Slowly she drew herself forward, trying to recall the correct technique her mentor had been teaching her. Tail steady, weight balanced. The cool breeze ruffled her fur, threatening to fluff her pelt, but Shrikepaw forced it flat. I just need a few more mouse lengths! Suddenly, her target poked its head up, revealing itself to be a vole with a deep brown pelt. It looked right at her, then turned tail and raced for the underbrush. " Hey!" Shrikepaw yelped, and forgetting her crouch she sprinted after her rapidly disappearing prey. Digging her paws into the bed of needles underfoot she leaped, determined that the vole would not escape her. But her paws fell on empty ground, and the rodent flashed beneath a bush. " Crowfood!" she growled, sitting back with a huff. " Not fair. I did it correctly, I'm sure I did!" Shrikepaw sighed, scuffing the ground with her paws. What went wrong? The wind blew a little harder against her back, spiking up her fur. Great. Now I look like a hedgehog, too. “SPEECH” Thoughts VIOLENCE Template credit: Viacrow

。☆✼★━━━━ Foxlily ━━━━★✼☆。 Well, her foraging efforts could take a quick break for an opportunity like this. “Looks like your vole smelled you coming!,” Foxlily chirped, emerging from a lavender bush just a few tail-lengths downwind of where the vole had disappeared. “I could even almost smell you through the lavender - I’m sure your hunting luck will change once you get used to staying downwind.” She shook out the remaining flower buds from her pelt as she approached Shrikepaw, setting aside their small bounty to sit idly. “Oh! Did your mentor send you out for some sort of test? I hope I didn’t ruin it by offering advice where it’s not wanted,” they backtracked standing up alertly with perked ears as their eyes scanned the forest. “Unless you’re just out for training? In which case I’d gladly take a pause to help! Besides, I’m getting hungry rummaging around out here, and Pantherpaw is on a test of his own so I should have a bit more time, if you like!” The idea was exciting, Shrikepaw was the same age Foxlily was when she left that path. It was like an opportunity to live out a little nostalgia. Ah, but the mentor - would that be okay? The battle of desires raged in Foxlily’s mind, nearly forgetting about the cat right in front of them. She/They + Single + Bi + Medicine Cat + App: Pantherpaw

✧・゚: *✧・゚:* Shrikepaw *:・゚✧*:・゚✧ "Huh?" Shrikepaw blinked curiously as Foxlily padded into view. The disturbed lavender bushes rustled hypnotically, beautifully hued flowers waving back and forth. The vole smelled me? As the medicine cat continued, it finally dawned on the young apprentice. "Oh, foxdung!" she spat, irritated by her own foolishness. "I completely forgot about being downwind and all that stuff." She was a mousebrain with no one to blame but herself. Even the medicine cat knows better then I do.
There wasn't time to be upset with herself for long. Shrikepaw shrugged off most mistakes easily enough, once she'd gotten through her outbursts. And on top of that, Foxlily had more questions, some of which had the potential to get Shrikepaw in slight trouble if she didn't answer carefully. "Oh, no no, nothing like that," she meowed reassuringly. "No tests for me today. Training, yes, just out for a training session. Well, hunting session. My mentor suggested we split up, but I'm sure they're around here somewhere." A purr rumbled in her throat, and she glanced around the clearing as though in search of someone. Then she turned back to Foxlily and nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! I mean, if you think there's anything you can teach me, I'd love to hear it." Shrikepaw could actually be taught something, rather then spending her afternoon trying to teach herself. And now that Foxlily was here, she really did have a chaperone, and wasn't breaking any camp rules by being out by herself. Perfect “SPEECH” Thoughts VIOLENCE Template credit: Viacrow

。☆✼★━━━━ Foxlily ━━━━★✼☆。 Shrikepaw’s sharp words jolted Foxlily out of their spiral and brought them back to reality. Her tail curled in relief as the apprentice answered. “Oh, wonderful!,” she chirped, quickly binding her lavender sprigs for ease of transport before they could get on with the hunting. “Let’s find something else then, shall we? I’m not sure what you already know, so why don’t you try again?”They gestured to the left with their tail, adding a small nod in the direction for emphasis. “There’s a hazelnut tree just over there. This time of year, there are bound to be plenty of animals looking for an easy meal - us included! Even if there isn’t anything to hunt, we can swipe a few hazelnuts and leave them by that lavender bush. That’ll likely get us a meal to come back to.” She/They + Single + Bi + Medicine Cat + App: Pantherpaw
