Mosstumble followed after Featherstep, feeling a bit apprehensive of the situation. It was just MoonClan territory after all, and Mosstumble had received a territory tour during their apprenticeship like everyone else. What was out here that Featherstep found so exciting?
Maybe it was a coyote and they'd have to fight it off together. Maybe there was some lost kit they'd bring back to MoonClan (though kind of cruel to leave it out here by itself). Whatever it was, Mosstumble was bracing themself during the reveal and...
Oh!
It was actually quite nice. A large spruce tree surrounded by foliage. And were those deer? They were usually too skittish for Mosstumble to get this close. It wasn't really possible, but Mosstumble liked to imagine that Featherstep has instructed them on how to pose.
"This is pretty cool!" they exclaimed, tail twitching as they took in all that was around them. "You find this on patrol?" |

Featherstep nods as he allows them to look around his little hideout. This placed honestly looked like a perfect napping place, just far enough where no one would really expect to find out here, while still being in the borders of the territory.
Perhaps this was the reason why Mosstumble has never seen Featherstep around the main base, it was a bit sad to think but it must be the case, for awhile they had heard rumours of their quiet friend, he always seemed to be looked at as a loner rather than a memb
er of Moonclan.
Featherstep gently walks beside them and smiles looking at the dear who happily grazed, he sits on the ground and motions for their friend to follow him, just to give them a moment to take it in and clear their thoughts.

Mosstumble looked at Featherstep, who seemed to be at ease with his surroundings. The other warrior hadn't answered them and Mosstumble assumed that was because it was best to be quiet here. They followed him when beckoned, taking a seat beside the brown-furred warrior.
It wasn't often Mosstumble was able to clear their thoughts completely. It felt like bees were always working on a new hive in Mosstumlbe's mind, and all the bussing really stressed them out. Maybe the bees would take a nap here like Featherstep did.
The peace and quiet was nice for a while but... Mosstumble's tail began to twitch. Then they'd shuffle their paws in the dirt. They'd puff out their chest, holding in a loud sigh. "What do we do now?" they whispered. "How long do we stare at deer?" |

Featherstep in turn lazily looks to his friend, stretching his body to a surprising size before he responds.
"Until you're mind has cleared. Sometimes, you just need to clear your thoughts before looking at the problem, it's better when you're calm and collective in the end." Featherstep answered as he closes his eyes again and purrs in content as the sun slightly hits his body.

Mosstumble sighed at Featherstep's response. "I guess you're right. It just doesn't feel like they'll ever clear, y'know?" Mosstumble asked the question, but they didn't believe Featherstep would understand. He always seemed so calm and collected, like he said.

Featherstep hums.
"I know the feeling...." Featherstep said surprising Mosstumble as Featherstep looks up to the trees.
"So much has happened in our clan...Good...bad and we struggle to keep ourselves in a clear thought....those thoughts may never truly go away.....but it can be managed....it's not easy....and we do have pride.....
But if you want....we can work on them....together?" Featherstep offered, smiling at his companion and sitting up from his stump as they look at the deer, who had a fawn with them, she seemed alert and cautious, checking to make sure no predators would try and harm them.
"Those deer....they are like us....she has a baby she must protect as best she can...even she has no time to truly have her thoughts clear....but sometimes....she does let her guard down.." Featherstep remarked as they watch the mother bow to her chold and start to gently groom them.

Mosstumble blinked, somewhat surprised by Featherstep's words. "Huh, never thought of it like that."
Mosstumble watched the fawn and felt their fur prickle, remembering their own mother. What protection she'd been. Mosstumble shook their head. "Maybe her kit, or whatever she'd call it, would be better off if she had clear thoughts. Maybe if she'd been kind=" Mosstumble cut off as they realized how loud their voice had grown as they spat out harsh words. The deer had skittered off, and Mosstumble's pelt was burning them alive with shame.
"I'm sorry, Featherstep. That was out of line." They exhaled, closing their eyes briefly. "Thank you for listening to my problems, trynn cheer me up and all. It's really nice of you." |

"It's fine...deer are a bit sensitive...anything can scare them really. Also...I'm happy to help...you're the only cat who didn't look at me weirdly. So...thank you for letting me talk to you."
Featherstep smiled happily nuzzling Mosstumble like he was a close sibling as Feather step smiled widely...was this really the first time he interacted with anyone? Other than the leader?

Mosstumble felt in twinge of guilt in their stomach. They had thought Featherstep was a bit strange at first. He was quiet and pensive, completely different from Mosstumble's confusing, jumbled emotions. But as they conversed, Mosstumble warmed up to him. It felt like they'd known the other tom for a lot longer than they did. And he gave pretty good advice too.
"Well, if anybody thinks you're weird, they're the weird one." Mosstumble replied. "I think more cats just need to take the time to get to know you is all." |

Feathersteps' whiskers twitch in delight as he smiles happily at Mosstumbles words, they were right, why worry about how the other cats will judge?
"That is true, guess I never really thought about it...thank you Moss, now come on. I think that's enough deer watching, is there anything you want to do?" Featherstep asked curiously as he stands up and waits for their friends suggestion.

Mosstumble nodded, a smile on their maw as Featherstep thanked them. The small feline stood up and shook out their grey and white pelt.
"I guess we should probably head back to camp," they suggested. "I don't want Needlesong to think we're skipping out on patrols. I don't think he'd like that very much." Though Mosstumble's voice was flat when they spoke, their whiskers twitched with amusement.
"We could probably hunt before we head back though. So we don't show up with empty paws." |

Featherstep perks up at this nodding at happily as he quietly follows Mosstumble his steps more preppy as he felt overjoyed to finally have made a new friend. Looks like Starclan had been listening to him afterall.
