The trek takes a toll on all of us, physically, let alone the drowning process!,” she commented, going to scour the den for something to relieve muscular pains. A sharp scent struck their senses, and they became acutely aware of the feverfew lurking in the corner. The herbs had yet to be properly sorted, so Foxlily still had a bit of adjusting to do when it came to finding their things. She thought intricately about his answer. It was, in fact, a scary part of the job. “Well,” she started gingerly, “that is why we go through a lot of training. Fortunately, we don't start off just treating cats on our own. We've got our mentor to walk us through it and determine when they think we're ready.”Going to another corner and picking up a daisy, she put one of each flower in front of Pantherpaw. “Just for fun, for example, do you know either of these plants?” |

Pantherpaw looked at the two plants taking notice of the size difference even though the two looked almost exactly alike he thought for a moment he knew the bigger one was a daisy but he was not aware of the others name "A daisy I-is the l-larger one and the o-other one I don't know." he replied after a moment having never helped with the collection of any of the herbs before even when Foxlily took a group he never really learned the names of different plants he only knew daisies because some of the older cats used them in their fur or in crowns that he's noticed some others sometimes wear. "H-having a mentor that's pa-patient is probably nee-needed to learn so mu-much." he stuttered out noting that he was getting through some of the words now before needing to readjust how he was going to say it as sometimes he just spoke a little faster than what he could keep up with like now though not completely rushed he felt the need to respond and hold the conversation longer then he had with any of the others he's spoken with.

Especially as a medicine cat, I think compassion and patience are two of the things I had to learn very early on for this role,” they mused, recalling how feisty they'd been back then. Maybe that was why they were named Fox- as a kit. She gestured at the two herbs. “You're right! The bigger one is a daisy, I'm impressed you realized they were different at all! I thought my mentor was teasing me when he showed me these two, until I smelled the difference. The small one is feverfew! Helps break fevers and treat pain,” she explained, returning the daisy to its place and retrieving a pawful of feverfew. “If its sharp tang isn't too strong for you, it might help your aching if you eat some.” |

"Would you have chosen to-to re-remain a warrior?" He asked after a moment of looking down at the feverfew offered for him to eat thinking about whether his pain was enough to attempt to eat the smaller flower thinking about what she said about needing patience for any mentoring and he held back a sigh it seemed his own mentor wasn't always like that with him. Jaggedwind sometimes lost their patience with him because he couldn't answer quickly it always took him a few more seconds than other apprentices and even though Pantherpaw was just starting his journey he felt that he had it a touch harder than the other apprentices. After these thoughts, Pantherpaw decided his pain was enough to attempt to be rid of it by taking the feverfew and so he gently took some making for some reason he made sure to crush the center of the flowers before swallowing them.

They stretched their limbs before returning to a comfortable and casual sitting position. “I know not all medicine cats are so fortunate - not all cats in general are, I suppose - but I chose this path for myself. Even though I struggled at times or got frustrated, in the end, I knew it was what I wanted to do. It's worth it, for me, to forego learning the intricacies of hunting and fighting, so that I could pursue healing.”Something about Pantherpaw made the nape of Foxlily's neck tingle like it did when they spoke to StarClan, like when she woke up with the words of their ancestors on her own tongue. It made the fur there rise, but they tried to flatten it and remain casual. He didn't seem interested, and they didn't want to scare him anyway. “The feverfew isn't too sharp for you, is it? It should ease your pain soon enough - just remember pain relievers don't mean that you should exert your body just because you feel like it! You'll still need rest to heal properly.” |

Pantherpaw stayed still laying back down so that he didn't feel the need to keep shifting as he thought about Foxlily's response to his question he was glad that they had chosen to follow the path they did he just wanted to be able to properly follow his own as well and he hoped he could make the clan proud of him. He wasn't sure about his family as he only had his mother and she refused to speak about his father no matter how he went about asking her, he had wondered if maybe any of the others cats knew him but he was afraid to ask especially if they wanted a reason as to why he was asking them and not seeking the answer from his mom instead and so he never asked but he sure thought about it, he realized someone who might know was sitting right in front of him but he could still not get the words to pass his teeth instead he played there with a sort of sour expression for a moment before looking at the medicine cat taking in a deep breath of the lavender around him "Foxlily, do you remember my birth?" he asked curiosity getting him that far he hadn't realized he didn't trip over those words.

The actual content of his question caught up with her, finally, but didn't break her mood. They considered kit births to be some of their greatest achievements as a medicine cat - when they successfully brought new life into the Clan and didn't lose a queen? The joy was almost unparalleled. “Well, you're awfully old, so I might have to dig back in my memory a bit...,” she joked casually, stretching out their limbs and staring in mock contemplation before returning to honesty. “Of course I remember, it's hard to forget moments that are so full of joy like that. Why do you ask, though? I have to say, I don't think I get that question a lot from younger cats.” //don't know what Foxlily would actually know about Pantherpaw's family so let me know if you have something in mind! |

Pantherpaw was taken by surprise slightly by Foxlily's joke and tried not to show it though a flick of his tail tip would give him away slightly as he thought about a way to put things even though this conversation for himself was just awkward. He just wanted to know if his father was in any part of his life and to maybe find out what made him leave, was it because of him or was there something else? seeing no other way of explaining things without being less straight forward he shrugged his shoulder slightly "I... I just wanted to know if my father was there when I was born?" he questioned softly a look of curiosity and slight pain crossing his features as he tried not to let things effect him.

Of course he has questions, she thought, now tense with having to navigate such a conversation. Many cats weren’t concerned about their full bloodline, being content with knowing the queen who had birthed them. Between that cultural perspective and the privacy queens had in not disclosing their kits’ sires, Foxlily was sure that most similar questions would be full of disappointment. She herself only had the one parent and didn’t care much to learn about any other cats involved. Probably a loner. This wasn’t the same situation, though, not remotely. Pantherpaw’s father was a Clan cat - somehow, that complicated things. She sighed her resignation internally, disguising it as a thoughtful hum. “Yes, he was,” they answered honestly, tilting their head gently. “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, but what makes you curious about this? I hope- I hope no one’s been making you feel as if you don’t belong. You’re our Clanmate, and just our short conversation has made me happy.” One day she might just have to ask Pansystar how she went about having to have tactful conversations. |

Pantherpaw watched as Foxlily's light and easy going self seemed to become a little duller though if he hadn't been having a rather normal conversation with them before he was sure that he probably wouldn't have noticed but because he had he was able to realize his question slightly bothered them and it made him question why? Had his father been a mad cat that had hurt others or was there something else that maybe he wouldn't get yet he was rather young right now since just becoming an apprentice maybe she just didn't want to discuss this topic with him "I-its just that... He's no longer around, that I know of anyway... I was wondering if he just didn't want to know me." he explained slightly there was of course more then that swimming around his head but he was going to start things off slow.

Even as things stand right now, you’ve grown into such a nice young cat. I’m sure your father would be proud if he’d have gotten the chance to meet who you’re becoming.” They sat down next to the temporary nest that Pantherpaw was resting in, hoping it would be more comfortable for him to have them close than for her to be across the den. “In any case,” she added cautiously, hoping it would in fact reassure him and not contribute to similar thoughts, “kits can’t be held responsible for the actions of their parents. I can certainly say that I’m glad to share a Clan with you, Pantherpaw! You have a gentle heart.” |

Pantherpaw listened to Foxlily though they did not give him much he found that what they said about kits not being responsible for their parent's actions was true he could barely remember his early kit hood let alone understand why he would have been the reason his father left though he wondered what they looked like now his mother was a dark brown she-cat with white patches and brown eyes. He wondered if the black pelt he had was because of his father or if it was the combination of things that made him the only thing Panther did know was that his father had Blue eyes which was something he had managed to get out of his mother before but nothing else since then and she tended to be very careful when speaking with him when they had spoken. When Foxlily said that they were glad to share a clan with him it was surprising but brought the slightest of smiles to his face, he looked at Foxlily through blurry eyes now that she stood at his side he shifted slightly angling his head to where it faced the medicine cat as he took another breath the excitement of the day finally catching up to him, his feelings settled as the smallest of rumbling purrs came from his chest "Thank you Foxlily." he meowed as his eyes began to flutter taking in yet another deep breath he found the scent of the herbs coming from both around him and Foxlily's pelt eased him further as he lost the battle to sleep not noticing his nose was just touching Foxlilys flank just the slightest.

｡☆✼★━━━━ Foxlily ━━━━★✼☆｡ Ever soft hearted, she felt her heart grown only softer as she watched Pantherpaw fall asleep - with his nose gently at her flank. Something about the moment stirred in her, something she couldn’t place. All that matters is that I was able to help Pantherpaw recover, and cope with his father’s mysteries. Helping cats is what matters, she insisted to herself. Still, the proximity to the herbs she’d given Pantherpaw to help him relax was starting to get to them. Not to mention the sweet comfort of being trusted like this by another cat. Sleep tugged at them, and so, careful not to disturb Pantherpaw’s position at all, they made themself comfortable. Soon, they were drifting off to their own nap, unaware that they would be dreaming with the stars. |
